Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all. I slept ok and feel some better this morning. I am going to make myself go to the gym and at least get back in the routine of 3x a week. I'm giving myself grace to start slow. Probably ride the bike and maybe do a couple of sets on something for my bat wings! BBL Murphy

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday morning, enjoying the cooler temps, lower humidity, nice breeze. When we got back I picked a few green beans and tomatoes, cut some flowers for inside, watered the garden and porch plants. Then lunch and couch time after putting away the laundry. I missed a couple of hours of activity vegging on the couch. I did a Turbo Jam DVD to get to my step goal. DH grilled a steak for dinner which we had with leftover scalloped potatoes, green beans, and cucumber salad. The neighbor dropped off some green beans from his garden on our porch, I may have enough to can some more. After dinner I watched a Hallmark movie and started on an Ohio State tissue box cover. I stayed up reading until I got drowsy, then slept pretty well.
It's a pretty, sunny day in the mid-60's. We may go walk at the lake. The chipmunk has emptied the bird feeders again.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretched, AP, blue dot, rollovers, lots of protein, AF, trifecta, measurements down, journal. I'm reading a historical romance by Kathleen Woodiwiss, a guilty pleasure I picked up at the Free Little Library.
Liz- WTG for an AIM/OP day. Yay for going to your high school reunion and being able to recognize most. I've seen the Discovery of Witches promos, will need to check it out since you and Cindy liked it.
Carole- Glad Hydrox camp was good. How fun to watch football outside!
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Sorry your fibro flare was worse yesterday, glad you are feeling better today. GL at the gym.
Cindy- Congrats to the Texas teams. We usually get our vaccines at Publix. Yay for leftovers, seeing a hummingbird. My nectar is lasting longer but I do have multiple sightings every day. I've read on FB that they are starting to migrate south. I probably would like Rings of Power.

Final weigh in: Good morning friends, sisters, confidants. What are we? All of the former I'd say. Feel like I woke up with a bit of Vim and Vigor this morning, with a side of sassy to get me going Maybe it was the strange dream, I was trying to take some people somewhere in a car but could only drive it backwards, but of course was still going 60+ MPH. Was scaring myself, can't imagine what the passengers thought, just didn't know how to turn around. What does that mean in dream language? I feel like I have turned the ship around so maybe it's just something I've been thinking about, a reminder to not go backwards. Deep morning drivel for you all to ponder. Was happy with my day, got my steps and kept the food in control I saw on the Neighborhood site this morning that at some point yesterday afternoon they evacuated the Walmart where I'd just been, lots of cops. Someone said a bomb threat. Wait for the real report but still, Oy Vey. We've all gone crazy. I was hoping maybe the paradyme was shifting after all the crazy football upset wins and close calls over the weekend. Go Northern Illinois! NO big plans for the day. Will do a thrift store drop, which means a thrift snoop. Going to see if I can get a crochet hook or two for my lesson on Thursday. Made up a little hat yesterday for a baby size that I'm supposed to put little ears on like a bear. See if I can get that done today. Temps are going back up in the high 80's this week, maybe I can get DH to help clean up some of the backyard. Always a good motivator to spiff things up when company is coming. Guess I better get moving. Feeling I could ramble on a bit this morning, caffeine must be kicking in ha ha. Have a great Monday all. Jan Murphy Hope as the day wears on you feel a bit better. Go easy at the gym so you don't spark and flare ups. Good for setting up your 3x week routine! Have you been on the puppy hunt yet? Amy Enjoy your cooler weather. You are so dedicated about meeting your step goal. I need to set a reminder or something to look at my fitbit after dinner. If I get closer to bed and don't have my steps I just don't try to get the last 1000+ If I have like 400-500 I can usually march around. Just setting my goal up to 8500 right now seems more challenging to make than 8,000. Need a consistent morning walk like you. As I sit here on the couch! Hope you have enough beans to can. Interesting that you say the hummers are migrating south. I figure when they say South from here, they are going to you and Cindy's house. Do they winter in South Florida, like the snowbirds? or even farther to South America. Does your indoor yoga start up now? We don't talk about Ohio State here Boo. Carole Hope you can walk and then function at work today after your workout. Yay for football outside, Go Bears! An ugly win, but still a win. I got a cubs update on my FB the other day when the Yankees were in town. Makes my heart happy that at Wrigley they still give Rizzo a big standing O when he comes on the field. We will try to do one or more camping trips this fall, maybe just Door County or back up north somewhere, see how the weather holds out. Cindy Glad your teams won. I couldn't even tell much when Brady was on mic. Not all that exciting for sure, and he really needs another $375 Million? Come on. I'm starting to look forward to the reunion. Mostly just to see the few steady friends I've kept and to spend some time in the Hometown. Our friends who are hosting us asked if we just wanted to do a BBQ at their house Friday and then join the groups downtown after instead of trying to get dinner reservations. Sounds good to me and easier to talk to the people I want to. I figure this will be the last one I'll go to, but never say never. I like that there are other focuses besides just the eating and drinking. There is a walking history tour of Wheaton we're doing. Meeting at the grade schools and middle schools for pics. I have already scouted out a few yarn stores I like the mint idea, maybe a few lifesavers in my pocket. Also going to see if they are "Progressive" enough to at least offer a NA beer or Mocktail. When I grew up there, Wheaton was a dry town, associated with Wheaton College, ie Billy Graham. That changed sometime in the late 80's I think. Still feels weird for me to go downtown and see bars and drinks being served at restaurants. I will rethink the shingles shot with you. My Dr. asks every time I go for check up. Also need to schedule around no activities, just in case. Liz Sounds like you had fun at the reunion, I'm hoping for the same. And they won't have to ask about our 3rd, we're the 3 Jans - Janet, Janet and Janice (me) will all be there together. My friend is bringing her old yearbook as I will need to study up on some of these names I'm seeing who are going. No clue who they are. My life just didn't revolve around school at that point. Not in sports or cheer, no drama or choir for me. I was in band but didn't hang out with those kids. Was always just outside, rode my bike, hung out with friends, no boyfriend so no dances. Will just go and observe and have fun. Glad it was a successful day at the circus and at the babysitting post. Waving hi.

I went to the gym and then stopped by Walmart for ice cream! LOL. I have told myself that if I go to the gym 3x this week, I will give myself a birthday present of the upgraded membership which will allow me to use the massage chairs, tanning beds and extra stuff. It's $15 a month but I don't have to sign a contract so it's just month to month and if I don't use it, then I can stop it. Today I did the recumbent bike and the chest press machine. I'm just giving myself grace to start slow. I still do the stepper and the resistance bands at home first thing every morning. I can tell a little difference in my stamina so I think it is working. Jan - I haven't started looking for another dog yet. I think I'll wait a few more months. I might even get a cat instead. I'm not in any hurry. Even though the shingles shot was kind of tough, I would still do it again because I've had friends who had shingles and that is definitely something I do not want to deal with! Liz - I'm so glad you went to the reunion. My class hasn't had a reunion since our 20 year reunion in '97. I'm seeing FB notices for 50 year reunions for the class of '74 and it always startles me because that was the year I was a freshman and I know those people! That just means that my 50 year reunion will be here soon! Cindy - I took your advice to stock up on dairy products . LOL. Go ahead and get the shingles shot. I have a good friend who had a bad case of shingles and then developed a problem with the trigeminal neuralgia and it was just awful for her. Carole - are you able to move today after Hydrox yesterday? I don't think I will ever reach your level of fitness (or Amy's!) but you inspire me! Amy - The lowered humidity is so wonderful! We are supposed to be in the low 80's most of this week. They are saying that we may get some heavy rain by the weekend though. I will be going to stay with DB tomorrow but will plan to get the thread started before I head out. Hope everyone has a great Monday! Murphy

Happy Halloween! Final weigh in:
Hi Girls! Not much happened yesterday, was AF/OP. As much as I loved babysitting, I basically recouped all day yesterday. The knitting is coming along. I pulled out some fall decorations, hung the brooms on my front double doors, and got out my big grapevine wreath that I will hang above the fireplace. The only thing is that I don't want to hang it until I clean the glass enclosure, and to be perfectly honest, not in the mood to clean, lol. I think I'll take advantage of the quiet while DH is at the casino.
Amy~ Yay for your beautiful weather and enjoying the cooler temperatures. WTG getting in some couch time! I have so many hydrangeas but I never think to cut them and put them in a vase indoors.
Jan~ Woohoo for the vim and vigor with the side of sassy attitude!! Glad you were out of Walmart before the evacuation. That's wonderful that you will have your "triangle" going to the reunion. I was surprised about the dress code though, which makes me wonder how some have dressed in the past. I have to say that our city was pretty fashion conscious during our high school years and actually carried through at our 55th. Although I did notice more flats than heels, lol!
Murphy~ So glad you slept well and starting to feel a little better. WTG making a plan and scheduling gym time. I remember that when I was exercising way back when, it gave me a more positive attitude and lifted up my spirits. I guess it is something that I should be scheduling as well, lol! Woohoo for getting to the gym today, and rewarding yourself with that ice cream!!
Vicki~ Did you go to DD's and help with the packing over the weekend. Will Rylee be changing schools when they move into the new house? Hope you had a great weekend!
Carole~ Yay for the good Hyrox camp! I love the idea of setting up an outside TV, unfortunately we are under a West Nile alert and they have been spraying in the late night/early morning. Is your pool still open? DS will be closing it this week. How is school going, are you still in the Cafe or are you in a new position? Cindy~ Can you believe the Pats won yesterday? Everyone was in shock they were considered the underdog by 9 points. I guess they fooled everyone! Thanks for the tip about the Lace Reader. I kind of thought you would be a Discovery of Witches fan, and now I think Amy will love it too! The photo that you are talking about took place in Salem and it was all family. Beside Elyse and I were my DSIL, her DD, and her granddaughters. I always treasured that day and always will. I would love to do one with my DD and grandchildren, maybe Michael can be our little warlock, lol!
Cathy~ Hope you had fun with Rosalie and Rosemary! Yay for the scale moving in the right direction.
Need to get some knitting done, enjoy your Monday!!

Hi all. Kitchen is closed, I have the game on but will be heading up to read soon. Not sure when I'll get to check in tomorrow. Have my WW meeting in the morning and going right from there to get a pedi. I had made an appointment for today at 11:15, did it online. Got in the car to go and luckily answered my phone as they were calling to say it wouldn't work today and could I reschedule. Ran my other errands instead, dropped at the thrift, found a crochet hook and a book. Lot's of other temptations, but not today. Went to get my scripts from Walgreens, but they said they hadn't gotten the order, but would fill it. I didn't wait. Can go back tomorrow on my way home from the pedi. Snooped in Hobby Lobby but no yarn on sale so saved my $$. I just want a chunky red to do some "Santa" looking hats. Kind of lazy day after that but no nap! Starting to lose my vigor tho, and hope to sleep well tonight, maybe no weird dreams. Hope you are all having a good evening. See you tomorrow at some point. Jan Cathy Did I overwhelm you with my rambling, how come it copied my stats? ha ha Hope you can get it all sorted out. Liz Sounds like you had a good day to relax at home. Our dress code is casual but sure there will be some who have to do it up. I'm not sure what I want to wear, but may make myself get out of the T-Shirt at least been wondering about the west nile thing, DS hasn't said anything about any cases at the hospital. Hope they are being careful too. Murphy Yay for getting to the gym, slow is still a speed and you will build up. The right fur baby will show up when it's time. Night all.

Hi friends! Not much to report—work was good. Busy but not crazy. Did ok with food yesterday, although did get into the cookie cake and Lex brought home Culver’s. (That’s kind of sad that is considered a decent day!) I’ll try for personals tomorrow, heading to bed.
