Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all! I'm up and cleaned up and ready to head to DB's. He had a procedure done yesterday to stretch his esophagus so he can swallow food more easily. Since they had to put him to sleep, I wouldn't be surprised if he sleeps more today. Also got word last night that their old home which was a hundred year old farm house burned. That is so sad. Of course I'm grateful it didn't happen when they were still there but I sure feel bad for the new owners. I think they had just remodeled. Anyway - will try to get on a post later today. Everyone have a treat Tuesday! Murphy

DH & I drove to the lake yesterday morning to walk, the weather was lovely. We saw someone out on a stand up paddle board and several people fishing. When we got home I got busy cleaning the bathrooms, ugh, but good feeling when it's done. Then lunch and couch time. The NBC affiliate has replaced DBL with a Dateline rerun, ugh. I watched a recorded GAF movie instead. We had grilled pork chops for dinner, with leftover veggies from the beef stew, green beans, cucumber salad. After dinner I stitched and watched House of the Dragon. Once again I stayed up too late reading, then had trouble falling asleep. Hopefully I do better tonight.
It's overcast this morning, in the upper 50's, heading to the upper 80's. We're supposed to get heavy rains from Hurricane Francine on Thursday/Friday. I've got yoga this morning.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, errands, happy with day, ship turned around. Loved the quote from Connect. Glad you're feeling the vim and vigor, were gone from Walmart before the incident, looking forward to the reunion. The hat with bear ears sounds cute. I've read that the hummers go south to Mexico and South America. According to folks on the FB Georgia gardening page, they pass through here so we should keep our feeders up until we stop seeing them. Some say they have them year round, but I usually stop seeing them sometime in October. LOL over not talking about Ohio State. I have free yoga on Tuesday mornings, which I think will keep going all winter, the evening class starts next Monday evening. Enjoy the WW meeting and your pedi.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG going to the gym, doing the stepper and resistance bands at home. Enjoy your ice cream and visiting with your DB. It's a shame about their house.
Liz- WTG AF/OP, taking a day to recoup after Michael. My hydrangeas never seem to last when I cut them and bring them inside.
Cathy- What are you processing?
Carole- Glad work was good. The Culver's cookie cake sounds hard to resist.

All the medication yesterday really has DB messed up. He is napping now but when he is awake he is so restless. DSIL is gone for a while. She really needs a week of respite care.
Amy - I think we are supposed to get the rain on Saturday and Sunday. I have a friend at church who just moved from the New Orleans area and her husband and adult son are still working there. She is so worried about them.
Tonight I will go out to eat with the ladies group at church. Looking forward to that. Sorry about the lack of personals! Love you all! Murphy

Final weigh in: Good morning all (barely) Got to my WW meeting and then to get my pedi. Really like the new place, girls were friendly. Got home and just made a breakfast/lunch of sandwich and fruit. DH is hard boiling me some eggs and we took Ahi out of the freezer to make for dinner. I didn't watch until the end of the football game, but was happy with the results. Enjoyed talking to DS, doesn't look like there would be any time for us to go out and visit in October but we'll see. They go to California for the first part, then home a bit, GF is going to Taylor Swift in Miami near the end of the month, DS said no, and so her cousin is going with her. But now he want to fly down for that weekend as Miami is playing Florida at home. Told him, don't mess with the cops down there Not sure what is on the agenda for the rest of my day. Will do some knitting, attempt some organization upstairs in the "crap" room. Do some dusting and vacuuming in the spare room where my friend will have to stay for a few nights. Guess it's always a good excuse to clean when company's coming. Hope you are all having a good day. Check back later, if I remember :0 Jan Murphy Hope you DB feels a bit better when he wakes up and that you DSIL can get some other help for relief. Have fun at dinner out tonight with the ladies. Amy How was yoga? Is this a different instructor than the one you will be with next Monday, to regular one? Hope your hummers keep coming for awhile. I'm trying to gear up my brain for the debate tonight, not sure I'll be able to watch, but it's like the train wreck, hard to look away. Hope the rain isn't too bad, just enough so you don't have to water for a few days. Carole Yum, Culvers. I'm desperately trying to talk myself out of a Chocolate Oreo custard at our local stand today, flavor of the day Because, you know, I deserve it because I lost some weight! Arrggh. This is how we get in trouble. Glad the job wasn't too crazy yesterday. Kids were probably just still wiped out from their weekends Waving hi

Hi Girls! Yesterday was an AF/OP day. I ran to job lots and picked up the chemicals that I need for DS to close the pool; hopefully he'll be able to do it this afternoon. Then I came home and did some knitting. Other than that, not much else.
Amy~ Woohoo for getting the bathrooms done, I hate them too, lol. I started to watch House of the Dragons but I just couldn't get into it after watching Game of Thrones. I do believe there will be a new John Snow sequel, now that I will definitely watch, lol! Hope you enjoyed your yoga class.
Jan~ You made me laugh about the debate tonight, I agree I don't really want to watch it but I know I can't look away as well. Looks like you had a good WW week, yay!
Murphy~ Yay for getting to the gym yesterday. BTW, you inspired me, I finally got on my recumbent bike even though it was for only 15 minutes but I got on!! I like the idea of rewarding yourself for your birthday and upping your gym membership. Hope you enjoy your time with your DB today. Glad you are going out for dinner with the ladies group tonight, enjoy! Waving hello to all that follow. Will try to check back in tonight!

Hi girls. Life is going full steam ahead! I did get to take both girls to the park on Saturday, which was nice. We did go for a walk, but otherwise I just watched the two of them play. I went to the dentist yesterday and got my tooth fixed. It’s good not to hurt anymore! Then of course, you probably read our SOS story on FB. I didn’t even know we had Subaru Starlink! I thought it was a free feature for 3 months. I couldn’t believe it when not 1 but 2 police cars showed up! 🤦🏼♀️I did go to the Y today and only did the water class. Our big Women’s Ministry workshop/retreat is Saturday and I don’t want to hurt myself again before that. Hopefully next week,I’ll get back to both classes. I hope to watch the debate tonight. I doubt I’ll be able to watch too much though. What a shame.😔
Murphy: I’m sorry he’s so restless. What a gift you are to them!
Jan: Yay for the weight loss!I have a feeling your loss will be my gain! Addi LOVES school. Jack, not so much. He’s in his second year of Spanish, and didn’t learn anything the first year, something about the teacher? His new teacher is aware and is working with him. But he will really have to work this year. He also is learning algebra. I think he will have a hard year. But if he wants good grades, he certainly can work for it. He has to want it!
Amy: It’s been beautiful here too! This is my favorite time of the year! DH’s cucumbers are getting bigger!
Cindy: DD is only moving 5 minutes from her current house. So the only change for Rylee will be the school bus. They close on Monday! Then they have 2 weeks to get everything moved! She’s really getting excited!
Carole: I know you’re right about the Shingles shot!
Liz: I totally understand how tiring grands are, no matter the age! We’re not used to having to be “on” so much! I am quite comfortable being a retired old lady moving at a slower pace!
Hi Cathy!

Hi All!
Don't know what bug I picked up but have been in bed all day. Started last evening. I also slipped on the stairway and landed hard on my butt and have a purple finger from when I tried to grab the railing so being in bed has been helpful.
Hopefully it is just a 24 hour thing. It better be!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Yesterday was a quiet day. Went out for produce but otherwise stayed home. Planted some avocado seeds ready to move from water to earth and did some patio cleaning but otherwise a quiet day. Today cards in Tripoli and I will pick up two women and we will go together. Tomorrow Beirut for AWC meeting.
AMY: I was processing the news-load of all that was shared the day I posted that. Perhaps also the conversations we had around the pool in which aging, vacations, husbands, gender issues, and other things came up and realizing/thinking about how different my thoughts are from others on some issues.
Need to get ready for today the day so will keep this short today.
