Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all! Had a good time at supper last night with the ladies from church. I had a salad and baked potato. The baked potato was more like a serving of butter and sour cream accompanied by a little potato! Easy to rake that off though. This morning I'm headed to the gym and bank and then I'm going to a different Walmart that is the only one that carries the ham I like to have on hand to season beans with. Then I'll be back home. I do have choir rehearsal tonight. I'll check back this afternoon. Murphy

Yoga was good yesterday, not as cramped in the downstairs space at the clubhouse. DH drove to the clubhouse to meet me when yoga was over so we could walk around the amenities. Coincendentally the yoga instructor and her husband did the same, we crossed paths several times. When we got home I picked green beans and cherry tomatoes and filled the bird feeders again. I had lunch then got busy canning the green beans. I ended up with 5 pints this time, will give a couple to the neighbor b/c some of the beans were his. I had some couch time then went to the basement to do a workout with weights. We had a half loaf of leftover French bread, so I made pizza out of it. It was pretty good, but needed something. At least it was filling and DD ate all of her portion. After dinner I watched the debate and at some point DD sat down and watched the end of it with me. I had no trouble falling asleep and slept well- yay!
It's a pretty, sunny day, a little warmer than yesterday in the mid-60's. I think we're going to walk the Silver Comet trail and go to Costco for more Fairlife.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Sorry DB was messed up from the sedation for his procedure. Glad you had a good time at supper with the ladies at the church. Hope everyone will be safe from Hurricane Francine. It sounds like it will be mainly a flooding event, which is also an issue in New Orleans. WTG going to the gym.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, going to WW meeting, scale down, cleaning for your friend's visit. Glad you liked the girls at the pedi place. Hope it works out to visit DS soon. Enjoy coffee with the girls. It's a different instructor for Tuesday yoga and Thursday aerobics. She lives in the neighborhood, is a "retired" fitness instructor, although she doesn't look any older than her 40's. She's doing the classes for free. The yoga class is a mix of yoga, Tai Chi, and pilates, which she does to music. It's a pretty good workout but about half the ladies do parts of it sitting in a chair. Someone on my GLP-1 FB group shared what her dietician advised her regarding macros, which is completely different than the high protein, low carbs philosophy. I may copy and paste it for you to look at. I think I will look into talking to a dietician to get some me-specific advice.
Liz- WTG for another AF/OP day, riding the bike. It took a bit to get into House of the Dragons, but I'm enjoying it. Yay for knitting.
Vicki- Glad you had a nice time with the girls in the park. LOL over the Star Link event. WTG going to the Y. Yay for the cucumbers getting bigger and for DD's closing on Monday. Enjoy the retreat on Saturday.
Cindy- So sorry about the bug and your fall. Hugs!
Cathy- Sorry about the hungry day. Yay for avocado seeds being ready to plant. Thanks for explaining about processing the news of the day.

Jan- This a copy of what this girl posted about her dietician consult. It makes sense, but now I'm confused!
"I am going to offer this info - realizing that everyone has their own health requirements. I am healthy besides being obese. 187 lbs No diabetes or anything else. What I have learned: after being on sema for 2 months and losing approx 1.5 lbs a week my weight stalled completely. My RD says that my body went into starvation mode! I was sluggish and too tired to eat! Totally struggling by the end of the day to even make dinner, let alone eat it. Brain fog - I could not think or sleep. RD says that 1200 calories a day is the intake of a toddler. RD says that I was getting TOO MUCH PROTEIN and not enough carbs to burn it! 80g of protein for a 50 yr old woman who has moderate activity is adequate. Only on exercise days increase to 100. RD says that 50% carbs is required to fuel the body. and that I NEED 2000 calories daily! Based off of 1800-2000cal/day: 20% protein = 80-100g 50% carb = 220-250g starch 30% fat = 77g-85g fat 23-25g fiber daily SOOO - I did just this and guess what? I am not tired, I am "going" every morning and I have lost 2 lbs in a week!! I feel so good! No more dizzy or nausea!"

Made my trip to the gym. Slowly increasing the activity. Still keeping up with the stepper and resistance bands in home. Then I made the quick stop at Walmart and the bank and now back home.
Jan - hope you have fun with the ladies today. I love an egg salad sandwich. I usually keep some in the fridge most of the time.
Amy - very interesting info from the dietician. I haven't been tracking and it sure shows. Are you still doing the intermittent fasting?
Cindy - I sure hope you are feeling better today!
GG - Does DD close on the new house soon? I imagine all of you will be busy helping them get settled in. Does the new house have a pool?
Going to putter around the house a bit. Will go to choir tonight. Tomorrow is the senior adult lunch that I volunteer at so that will be a busy day. Have a great day everyone! Murphy

Hi all. Plopped on the couch for a bit and checking in. I just got my iced tea at Hardees and think that's a good plan until maybe switching to coffee in the winter if we keep going. Then I went over to Aldi's and got sucked into the Aisle of shame < but it did help me with Wordle ha ha. Bought a foam type acorn cat house, I think it's cute but so far no takers. Scout is sleeping on the coffee table. The welcome mats I went for were either out already or my store didn't get them. May try a field trip tomorrow on my way to the airport to check the other Aldi up that way. Probably do some knitting this afternoon and see what other mess I can get into. Have some sun tea brewing outside, took my coleus out and think it needs repotting. Just going to maybe be a lazy day Hope you are all having a good one. Jan Murphy Glad you got your Walmart run done and went to the gym. Everyday counts! Enjoy choir later and senior luncheon tomorrow. Amy Hope the weather is nice and you have gone to hike on the Silver Comet trail. yay for yoga being free and less crowded . Will she continue when the night time person starts? Interesting about the stats, does it ever say how tall the person is? I would agree tho that 1200 is way too low and wonder how they came up with that amount to start with. My FB says between 1500-1700 to lose 1-2 pds a week, which seems reasonable for me. WW has often said if you are stalled maybe you are not eating enough and have put your body into starvation mode. And it's why sometimes when we have a crazy over points week, we actually lose. Who know, right now I feel like I've hit a pretty good spot with macros and points, will see if I can continue. I'm sure it's also what kinds of carbs, no the delicious pie and ice cream kind Nice of you to share your canned beans with the neighbor. Cathy Sounds like you continue to stay busy. Oh the news to process never ends for sure. I'm wondering how things will now all fall out with Taylor Swift endorsing Harris. A whole new layer of "talking heads" Cindy So sorry about the fall, did you just miss a step or slip? Ouch. How are all the parts feeling today? Hopefully nothing chipped or broken. Hugs GG The big move will happen soon and nice they will be all settled before the holidays. Glad you got to have a fun day at the park with the girls. It seems more girls do like school than boys, at least at the younger ages. Maybe like their teachers, they like to be pleasers. Can Jack do any online Spanish like Babble or something to help him catch up? My DS had no interest while in HS, of course, but then when he took classes in college he soaked it right up. Often it's just the closed mind that it's too hard. Have fun at the women's retreat. Hope you get back to your classes next week. Liz Did you watch? I can't wait until the next two months are over. I guess I'm just always skeptical of people who claim to still not know which person they would vote for. Hmmm. Seems most folks are firmly on one side or the other. Hope you got some knitting done and just relaxed at home. Was DS able to get the pool closed up? Do you think you will go up to Salem at some point during the season this year? I know from what DS says it gets pretty crazy up there but maybe on a weekday would be fun. Are the afghans you need to make baby size of big ones? Waving hi

Hi friends! It’s beautiful out! I’m sitting on my swing reading and playing on my phone. Burned myself pretty good today—good thing I’ve got those anti-burn sleeves🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m going to a hillbilly party on Saturday! I bought some shorts overalls. She’s getting a riding bull! Eating is still not so good.
Amy, I hope you enjoyed your hike!
Liz, you asked the other day, I’m still in the kitchen but a production helper so I cook all the pizzas, make the hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and things.
Cindy, I hope you feel good.
Murphy, I love that you’re going to the gym!
I need to get dinner started. Hello to all!

Hi All!
Feeling better but tired. Tomorrow I get my "brace" for my knee. I slipped on the stairs due to my knee "slipping". I'll have the doctor look at my finger tomorrow...it is a bit bent. I did give myself a "fat lip" somehow....just tired of myself, lol.
Planning to be back to chatting tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy
