Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Anyway - I'm cleaned up and have had my devotions and am ready for the day. I don't have to be at the church to help set up till 9:30 or so. I'm sure I'll come home and collapse this afternoon! Everyone have a great start to your day! Murphy

Good morning all. Had to add a AIM day, I know boredom and lazy get me in trouble. Just quieted the squirrel brain and noise and not the best way to do that. I know a week with my friend 24/7 gets me a bit stressed. Even if you love them, it can be draining. I know at least at the reunion times and at our other friends house there will be a bit of a buffer. I know she's just excited to take an adventure, her life is a bit crazy. I will head off to knitting this morning and then come home to do some more spot cleaning around the house. Have laundry and sheets in the washer, will get the bedroom ready this afternoon. No other big news. Need to get cleaned up so I can head out. Will check in this afternoon. Jan
Murphy Have a good time at the luncheon, hope you can rest this afternoon if you need to. Are you feeling sore at all from yesterdays gum workout?
CIndy Ouch. Hope the Dr says the finger is OK and that the knee brace will prevent anymore mishaps.
Carole Ouch for you too. Don't they have giant pot holders or something for your arms?
GG Will you go to the Y today?
Amy Any word on when you will get your channels back on Direct TV?
Hi liz and cathy

DH & I decided we should mow the yard yesterday since the next few days are supposed to be rainy, so we skipped going to the Silver Comet and Costco and walked the nature trail instead. When we got back we mowed the yard. It was easier than usual b/c it hadn't gotten that tall and the temp/humidity was pleasant. Afterwards I puttered outside and watered the garden and porch plants. I picked a few green beans, cherry tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers. After lunch I had some couch time but didn't nap. I made French onion soup for dinner as DD has been craving it. I had never made it before, I think it turned out well. It may be something to make in bulk and can. After dinner I watched House of the Dragon and stitched.
It's rained some already. We're getting the outer bands of Francine, so it will be an off and on thing all day. We may try to get the Costco visit in today. Off to aerobics in a few minutes.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG going to the gym, doing the stepper and resistance bands at home. Glad choir was good. Sorry you are feeling tired, hope you can rest this afternoon. I am still doing the intermittent fasting, as I usually am not hungry in the morning. It makes it easier to stay within my calorie allowance, it seems the earlier I start eating, the more I eat over the course of the day.
Jan- Yay for fun at Aldi's aisle of shame. LOL over the Wordle connection. I see you had 4 of the letters on your first guess too. I never saw what the girl's height was. I hear there's a GLP-1 setting on the WW app now. I wonder if it gives macros? As far as I know the free yoga and aerobics classes will continue indefinitely. I am usually skeptical about "undecided" voters too. I think people are just reluctant to publicly say who they like. Or they don't like either. I am in Trump country here and am not brave enough to put a Harris sign in my yard.
Carole- Yay for beautiful weather. Sorry about the burn, glad the sleeves saved you from worse. Enjoy the hillbilly party.
Liz- Glad you could check in and got time with DD and the grands.
Cindy- Hope the brace helps. Sorry about the slip on the stairs, bent finger, and fat lip. Hugs!

M-W Word of the Day
fraternize verb | FRAT-er-nyze What It Means To fraternize with someone is to be friendly with them or to spend time with them in a friendly way. Fraternize is often, though not always, used in situations where such friendly behavior is considered wrong or improper, as in “fraternizing with the enemy.” // The boss warned that fraternizing with the junior employees could be a risky career move for a manager.

Hi all. Been a good day. Had fun at knitting and tried working on a granny square with the help of one of the lady's. Just doesn't feel that comfortable to me and it makes my hand tired. I know that's because I'm trying too hard, holding the yarn too tight. I'll practice a bit but don't see me doing much with it. We went to lunch at Olive garden so I did my soup and salad. Came home and we got the bed made up. Then later I read and took a nap My friend had texted that she was on the first plane so hope the Denver part goes smoothly. The airport isn't really that far, maybe 20 miles, but I really just haven't driven much at night lately. Will just give myself enough time and I can walk laps inside maybe if I get there early. Not sure what we'll do for dinner. Have LO meatloaf, could just do a sandwich, see what DH thinks. I got my suitcase packed for the trip and feel ready to go. Will try to check in when I can, not sure what the internet situation will be when we're at our friends house. Hope you all have a great Friday and weekend. Jan Amy Hope aerobics was fun. Did you ever get your golf cart back? Good to get the yard work done before the rain came. I'm not brave enough to put up a political sign either altho our end of town seems to be a bit more blue than when I drive around and see all the Trump signs. Did you get to Costco today? Did they have the Fairlife? Hope you get your TV service back soon. Of course they probably don't give you any off of the service price while it's down. Yum for onion soup! Did you put all the cheesy goodness and crouton on top? Murphy How was the luncheon? Hope you got some rest this afternoon. Waving hi to all.

Hi friends! I had a good workout this am and met my df for a bike ride after work. Shes the one who would be doing Hyrox with me but she has RA. She was on her way to Utah, to see her daughter, when something happened as she was stretching and pulled her sciatica. She had to go to the ER she was in so much pain. She then had to be pushed around in a wheelchair and use crutches as she couldn’t use her leg. Most of her leg muscles are gone and she has trouble doing certain things. I just feel awful for her.
Amy, I was wondering g if you added the cheese too! That’s the best part to me!
Jan, have a great time at your reunion and at your friends house. Where does she live?
Cindy, I hope you didn’t break your finger. Liz, how is your wrist?
I actually tracked my food today !

Hi All,
TVPromise.com is the site to find out whether you qualify for a credit on your TV subscription. I have Direct TV. The credit will be $30. Could not get through tonight probably because I wasn't the only one that saw that on FXHD channel. So really don't have other details. Amy, wasn't sure if you saw that info.
Picked up my brace today. It does seem to support the knee. The finger is sprained and as always arthritic. I did get a shot in my knee to help the arthritis. Also told to stop crossing my legs because I'm putting pressure on the arthritis that is causing swelling. This is going to be a hard habit to break.
Will make an effort tomorrow to check in with everyone.
Sleep well!
Hugs, Cindy

Yesterday was busy. Up early, on the road for almost two hours to get to Beirut, time with the American Women's Group, lunch at a pizza shop, window shopping in a Mall, and finally home to relax in the evening. It was warmer and more humid than the past few days so sleeping without even a sheet happened when we lost electricity.
Today will be a day to regroup, relax, and refocus. We have spinach, green beans, and eggplant to create meals with. I might make green beans in tomato sauce on rice OR eggplant sandwiches OR green beans with potatoes OR...well...the options are unlimited.
Here's hoping all of us have success in achieving our goals today!
