Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good Friday morning all! The luncheon was good yesterday. I was tired afterward but I realized that I wasn't as wiped out as I have been before so maybe the exercise is starting to pay off! I'm going to the gym this morning and then need to drop off some clothes for donation. I think I will try to get my hair trimmed too. Starting to look shaggy. BBL Murphy

The aerobics class was fun yesterday morning, DH & I walked around the clubhouse area afterwards. It was sprinkling a bit, but it felt good after working up a sweat at aerobics. When we were done walking we headed to Costco. I got 3 cases of Fairlife shakes, some hummus that we sampled, peaches, strawberries, paper goods, their Caesar salad, a rotisserie chicken, and other odds and ends. When we got home we put the stuff away, had lunch, then I had some couch time. We had the rotisserie chicken for dinner, along with Caesar salad, cucumber salad, green beans. DH & DD also had French onion soup again. After dinner I watched House of the Dragon and the Seth Myers election special, which was hilarious. I was in bed by 11 and slept well.
I felt really good yesterday, almost high. I don't know if it was all the protein, water, and exercise, but I'll take it! It's gloomy today with good chances of rain. Right now the feeder bands are training west of us. We only ended up with a half inch yesterday. They are saying we may get 1-3 inches over the next couple of days.
Jan- Glad you had a good day, fun at knitting and the Olive Garden. Sorry you didn't enjoy the granny square. Have a great weekend! We've had the golf cart for about a week. There's a QR code coming up on our TV to get a discount for not having the Disney channels. Of course I put croutons and cheese on the French onion soup. I've forgotten to the Wordle and Connections twice in the last week, so much for my streak.
Carole- Yay for a good workout and the bike ride with your friend. So sorry about the issues your friend is having with RA, sciatica, trouble doing some things. WTG tracking your food.
Cindy- Thanks for mentioning TVPromise.com. Glad the brace seems to help your knee. When are you supposed to wear it? Maybe it will help remind you not to cross your legs. I guess it's good your finger is only sprained, did they tape it? Hope the shot in the knee lasts for a while.
Cathy- Glad you enjoyed the trip to Beirut. Sorry that it's warmer and more humid. Enjoy relaxing today.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad the luncheon was good yesterday and you are not feeling as tired.

M-W Word of the Day
callow adjective | KAL-oh What It Means Callow is a synonym of immature used to describe someone, especially a young person, who does not have much experience and does not know how to behave like an adult. Like the word immature, callow is often used disapprovingly. // The novel’s plot involves a callow youth who eventually learns the value of hard work and self-reliance.

A quick check in. My friend just went for a walk, which is why she's so thin and I"m not But I needed a little more quiet time before getting in the car. I thought maybe she'd sleep in a bit later with her time change, nope, up and on all 4 cylinders by 6:30. We will leave in a bit, going to hit the thrift store on the way out to find a basket to put the goodies in for our friends. I thought for sure I had something here that would work but not big enough. Our friend in Wheaton says whenever we show up is fine. Going to BBQ at her house this afternoon before joining some activities in our hometown. Hope I can keep running on adrenaline and keep up my vim! Late to bed last night, DH making some noise, up early. Need a day to regroup. Hope you all have a fun and safe Friday the 13th! Will check in when I can. Jan Murphy Have fun at the gym. I do believe activity does give you more energy. That's why Amy is probably going to just fly away soon Hope you can get in and get your hair trimmed. Amy Yay for fun aerobics and feeling so good! Had the price of Fairlife stayed pretty much the same or gone up again? I may look while we're in Illinois and I'm also going to snoop Trader Joe's down there and look for treasures. Bringing a cooler, have some healthy snacks but not going to over stress about what to eat when others will be cooking. It's been a quiet day. I went to the gym this morning. I'm trying to do a bit more either in distance or reps every time. Came back and got my hair trimmed and I've just kind of piddled the rest of the day! I even dozed on the couch for a little while! My Soc Sec was deposited so at least I paid my bills and got that out of the way.
Jan - I hope you have the most wonderful time!! Enjoy every minute!
Amy - I've never been to Costco because it is on the other side of Knoxville from me but I do love the rotisserie chicken at Sam's! Next month at the senior adult lunch, we will do a variety of soups and I will do 2 crock pots of chicken and dumplings so I'll need to make a visit to Sam's to get a rotisserie chicken for that. Glad you had a good time at aerobics!
Tomorrow I will pick up a few groceries to get me though the rest of the month and plan to do some laundry. Everyone have a great rest of your Friday! Murphy

Hi All! Every week I tell myself to not go out on Friday but I procrastinated going to the store all week and ended up going today. I was amazed at how much highway construction has been done....no wonder there are so many accidents! I've never been a chip person but for some reason I wanted Pringles....Elote flavored...and bought some. Hopefully this want will pass! Wore my brace. I'm suppose to wear it at home, not while sleeping and if I can, wear it when I'm out and about. My finger is taped and buddy with ring finger. I think it will heal fairly quickly. The shot seems to have helped...hope it lasts! Tired of myself! Murphy, thanks for getting us going! Congrats on committing to the gym! I was glad to remember to pay my estimated taxes, now to pay the other bills. Glad the luncheon went well. Will you be going next week to see your brother? Sounds like he is having some better days. I wish we had a Sam's closer. Costco is about 10 miles away. Jan, have a most wonderful time. Breathe, give yourself grace and just enjoy! Wishing you vim and vigor! I never could get into crocheting. Amy, I was able to get my $30 credit for DirectTV. Wonder if they will try to recoup the loss from Disney. At least it was something. Good deals at Costco. I wanted to go there today but knew I was pushing myself and Fridays are crazy busy. Our Costco has gotten rid of the book section and is taken over by clothing. Did you get more rain today? We've had about 1/2 inch....not enough. Guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow! Carole, my heart goes out to your friend with RA and other health issues. Hope you had a good day at work and have a wonderful weekend. Cathy, like reading your FB posts. Sounds like you have been a wonderful time with friends. Hope you are able to talk with family this weekend. Vicki, what do you have planned for the weekend? Liz, I couldn't believe the Patriots won! What? Vegas odds were they would go 0 - 16 this season. Just crazy. How are you doing? Going to watch some tv, then read and hopefully fall asleep! Hugs to all, Cindy
