Today's post is inspired by info from some older WW materials.
If you feel like you need a boost, some different ideas, the article suggests going back to basics, thinking about when you were new to WW.
Look back. Reflect on your why...the reason you joined. Take action. Look back on your tracker, Read the beginner information materials. Move forward. Recommit to the things that worked for you. (but, also continued to discover new features)
Also: Reflect on childhood fun. If you loved climbing trees, try indoor rock climbing. If you loved playing ballerina, try a dance exercise class.
Do you recall if you had a specific "Why" when you joined? What about now? Has your "Why" changed? Have you used the idea of a re-start, looking back at information and materials like a beginner? Any activity/exercise you might think of trying (or have tried) based on interests in the past? Chat about anything you'd like.

Has your "Why" changed? * I think the first time the WHY was because I was back in the USA after having the last of the two planned children and wanting to get back down to my "normal" weight. The last time it was for health reasons and managed to halve my BP meds
Have you used the idea of a re-start, looking back at information and materials like a beginner? * I have done that in the past BUT in a mad decluttering moment I threw away decades of WW information so can't really return to it for inspiration. I thought at that time I was "done with diets" and would get rid of the diet reminders
Any activity/exercise you might think of trying (or have tried) based on interests in the past? * Bike riding was a joy for me at one time but won't do it here in Lebanon. I also enjoyed weight training but am not sure I will do it again any time soon. Walking...but prefer to walk with a friend. And...would LOVE to study dance even though I am over seventy
Chat about anything you'd like. * The potluck that I was going to go to today in Beirut was cancelled due to the pager explosions and their impact on the local situation. We hope to reschedule at a later date. I will take photos of the three bean terrine to share with the group and see quite a bit of three bean terrine eating in my future

Before menopause, my height and weight were always in proportion. Then, what seemed like "all of a sudden," my size 8/10 clothing didn't fit and I was wearing size 12 and then 14 and my 14s were getting snug on me. I sort of freaked out. I found a version of WW online and followed it, going from 175 pounds down to somewhere between 135 and 140 and my weight seemed to settle at 142. I was willing to move to a 10/12 but not more than that. At 142 I was happy with 10/12s. And once that happened, I figured I didn't need to diet any more. (HA!) When my 12s got too tight and I put on my first 14s for the second time (and the scale said 165), I went to a WW meeting and signed up. I was told my "goal" weight was going to be 141. I thought one pound (less than the 142 I had been happy with before) wasn't much of a problem, so I followed what I was told to do. And when things got to the point that I wavered between 2 and 3 pounds over 141 for 2 or 3 months, I realized I needed a change. I switched from counting Momentum points to SFT and within about 10 days my weigh in was between 2 and 3 pounds BELOW 141. I'd made goal! and six weeks later reached Lifetime at Goal status.
Since then (late summer / early fall of 2010) I've been following one or another version of SF. I'm still within two pounds over or under 141. I'm wearing size 8s and size smalls and I feel healthy and happy. And I don't feel deprived. I make decisions having to do with my overall health rather than letting the scale dictate anything. Things are good.
Childhood fun included laughing and I love telling jokes and hearing them (maybe that's why when I lead 7 in 7 I include jokes before serious topics... waddaya all think?). My favorite movies are comedies which I can watch numerous times without getting tired of them. I was never a tree climber and never had any interest in indoor rock climbing. I don't play with dolls any more, but I do teach 11- to 14-year-olds, this year only on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons, and I do love it (yesterday's class was great!). I either walked or rode my bike everywhere I wanted or needed to go, and gave up bike riding a few decades ago when I lived down a one-mile dirt road, but as you know I joined a group of women who walk on Wednesdays at the local lake.

My reason for first joining WW was, like Holly, I started to gain weight at menopause. I didn't think of any kind of "why". I lost weight. And went back to eating the way I did before. And started to gain back. Not long after that, a Weight Watchers at Work group started at my workplace, I re-joined (re-started), paid attention to the other aspects of the program. My "why" was health and that's pretty much been the point since then for me. Currently, I've still got on-line access (closest meeting is 50 miles away). Still maintaining. Right now, I can't say I follow any WW program closely. I eat based on what I recall from the no-count foods. Aim to eat mostly what I'd call real foods, pay attention to portions & hunger. Childhood activity - Mainly recall simply enjoying being outside. Outdoor chores (livestock care, gardens, lawn mowing) were more enjoyable than cleaning the house. I liked to read, when the weather was nice, reading in the hammock was especially good. I still enjoy gardening & don't mind mowing the lawn (DH usually does that - he likes being outdoors too). I liked roller skating, not sure I want to try that again. I think I'll stick with walking. Outside of exercise type things, I still do a lot of arts/crafts things that I enjoyed when growing up and try to keep learning new things as well. Cathy cathygeha, sad to hear the instability there meant canceling your potluck.

My "why" for joining WW my last & final time was that I wanted to be healthier. I had reached my top weight ever & was wearing a size 22. The Dr had just prescribed my 4th blood pressure med. I was determined to change that & after a year or so, I had lost 65 lbs. I actually never went below that, no matter how hard I tried. My Dr said that I didn't need to lose any more & he set my goal. I made lifetime & have tried ever since (12 yrs or so now), to maintain. I am a size 14/16 & this is where my body is happy. About 12 lbs have crept back on the scale & I am constantly trying to lose that, but that's it. It is still about my health. I no longer care about dress size.
When I was a teen, I played basketball (back when the girls could only play 1/2 court, as we might hurt our delicate selves). I rode my bike for miles & I also was a pretty good roller skater & great at jumping rope. I don't think that I could do any of those activities now. If I tried to jump rope, I would have to mop up after myself. LOL. Like Holly, I am funny. My co-workers always said that I should be a stand up comedian.
Seems that summer is not finished with us here in the South, the forecast is for temps in the 90's for the next several days. Yuck!!!
