Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it wonât be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you donât give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Good morning all! I'm up and cleaned up and have had my devotions. I'll go to the gym for a quick ride on the bike and then I have my dentist appointment. After that, I need to run by the library. I got an email that my card is expiring. I am liking listening to books while I'm on the bike. Need to do some house cleaning this afternoon and then will have choir rehearsal tonight. Everyone have a great start to your day! Murphy

Yoga was good yesterday morning, the class continues to draw a big crowd. DH met me afterwards and we walked around the clubhouse grounds, as did the yoga instructor and her significant other. When we got home I picked green beans and a few cherry tomatoes, watered the garden beds, filled the bird feeders. Then I got busy prepping the green beans for canning. I ended up with 7 pints. After I cleaned up the kitchen I had some couch time. I made fettuccini with butternut squash, collard greens, smoked sweet peppers, bacon, and onion for dinner. After dinner I watched Emily in Paris and stitched. I had trouble falling asleep, so I finished the book I was reading.
We were all awakened this morning with the smoke alarms going off. DH got up to investigate and could find nothing wrong. It sounded like they went off once in every location, then stopped. I did manage to go back to sleep for a bit. It's cloudy and it looks like it rained overnight. It looks like it will just get to around 80 today. I have an appointment to get my hairs cut this afternoon.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG going to the gym, doing laundry, working on bathroom closet. Hope all goes well with the dentist and library today. Glad you are enjoying listening to books while biking.
Carole- Hope camp inspired you to get BOT.
Cindy- WTG breaking down boxes and weeding. Sorry the ground is so dry and cracked. It sounds like a good idea to have the lawn guy rip out the dead bushes. I need to do a pantry purge too. When I was rummaging for the smoked peppers I found and threw out 2 boxes of stale ice cream cones. Yoga is on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, low impact aerobics on Thursday mornings. I don't feel the need to look for any other classes, but would consider it if they did something else at the club house.
Cathy- WTG doing errands and getting your pot luck dish made. The pager explosions sound horrific, sorry it's cancelled your plans. GL to Mounah getting his visa. Glad you and Bella are enjoying your cooler weather.

Hi All!
VENT: I woke up at 4 am and never fell back to sleep. Realized going to lunch with my friend was today and not tomorrowâŠaargh. This is the friend whose husband recently passed. 3.5 hours later I would be happy not to see her again. Even though I am eleven years older than she is, she acted like she was a big sister giving me advice. I know what needs to be done when a spouse dies and though she had asked me lots of questions, she acted like she did it all without any help. Iâm not looking for thanks. She certainly has plans on how she plans to spend the money she âthinksâ she will get and I decided not to tell her that she doesnât understand how it all works. I mentioned that when we went to the memorial service I was surprised as we went through the town that is quite desolate that there was a TJMaxx and I havenât been in one in several months. She responded, thank goodness you arenât spending money. She has no idea of my finances. This is not a competition as to who is the best widow. She also criticized my son that he is working with his friend and not going to what she perceives as a proper job. Umm, none of your business. I did a good job hiding my feelings. I finally said that my knee/leg was getting very stiff, and it was, and I needed to go home. Vent over!
Oh and she told me she is pouring bleach (for clothing) into her septic systemâŠshe has the same type system I have and clothing bleach can do damage. A specific bleach is made for the system, but by then I had given up. Whoever she has a contract with can explain it to her. She has already sold off her husbandâs office furniture. I understand everyone is different but it was exhausting. Vent over for real.
When I got home I texted a friend and asked her to âyell at me" for being in a good girl syndrome. I'm not upset with my friend, though my vent probably indicates I am, but more sad. Vent really, really over!!
Murphy, yay for going to the gym and I hope that the dentist appointment was easy! Any particular author you are following from audio books? Any specific genre? Hope choir goes really well tonight!
Amy, sorry about the smoke alarms going off. That happens at our house too. The main one is hard wired and have no clue why it happens. I hope you had rain overnight. Fingers crossed that we have some. Do you like your haircut? I have ice cream cones in my pantry and have no idea when they were purchased. I give myself a bit of a pass on cans as long as they arenât damaged but seriously need to rethink my Costco shopping.
Jan, good to hear from you and that you and your friend are still talking!
Vicki, yay for being down and getting to see Rylee on her birthday! Sounds like it is all coming together! Rest your knee!!
Cathy, follow the news and the pagers explosion was shocking. Iâm glad that you and Mounah are safe and Bella too!
Carole, are you back on track? You always amaze me how you do so much! How was work today?
Hi Liz!
Hugs to all, Cindy
