We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Can you believe the year is already half over? How does it go by so quickly. We've been through half a year, and everything that touches the WH is just as chaotic and screwed up as it was the day they moved in. They haven't learned a thing. That is he hasn't learned a thing, and they are sycophants who are too busy being the one who sucks up the most to run the country.
That's the WH. Then you look at Congress. Republicans have control of both houses, and yet they can't get their act together to accomplish a single thing. That's because everything they try to do is so drastic and so bad for the American people as a whole that they can't even get each other to support it.
How much of a disaster of a President do you have to be to not even be able to pass legislation when your party is in complete control? This JA has one of two choices. Best case scenario, he goes down in history as the worst president ever elected. Second choice, he goes down in history as having totally destroyed the country. If he would shut up, stop tweeting, and just go stand in a corner he might have a shot at that first choice. Unfortunately, he is incapable of doing that, and we are all going to have to pay the price. So Republicans who put him into office, I hope you are happy. Your vote is what is destroying the country, and you are getting absolutely nothing back in return to show for it. How do they sleep at night?

This present configuration of our government is an anomaly. His behavior speaks for itself. IMO, this group of Republican Congress people is also an aberration! We need moderates. Unfortunately, in these four years, should Trump leave office, we have an abominable "line of succession!" With regard to the Democratic Party, there has also been a straying from its roots, also. I have been doing more grass roots political stuff than I have in decades. that being said, however, we do what we do and some of see how we evolve. My hope is that, in 2018, people get out to vote and send a message to these jamokes. I also hope that the Democratic Party gets some viable candidates across the country, and that they speak to the needs of Americans and not merely be "Trump opposites." There! I've put in the Reader's Digest version of my two cents. To end this serious post, I'd like to shift gears with some levity:

Come on, Joyce. Surely you've seen how GREAT America has become since this arrogant/dangerous fool and his minions slithered into the WH.
That's only if you define the word "great" as powerless, inferior, weak, awful, insignificant, and fearful.
I have fond memories of Independence Day celebrations when I was a young woman. I had twin brothers and both of them were in the service. One in Korea and one in Nam. When they both thankfully came home they joined the VFW. My Mom joined the ladies auxilliary to support her boys and all the other Vets. Our dog, Doc, a big beautiful drooling St. Bernard, became the mascot at the Post. Doc and my Mom proudly marched in all the Independence Day parades with the Vets.
After the parade we had the best BBQ's, played horseshoes, and had a watermelon pit spitting contest.
I belonged to a volunteer group that placed American Flags on each and every grave at a National Cemetery here on Long Island. I was so proud to be an American back then. Proud of my family and friends and proud of my country. Those were the days, my friends.
Honestly, I never thought the day would come that I'd be embarrassed to be an American. Never.
I hope everyone has a safe, meaningful, thoughtful, relaxing, and happy Independence Day.
Jumping off soapbox now.

To all of you:
Well, Trump's Voter Fraud (probably, voter suppression) Commission, led by Kris Korbach, has sent out letters to 50 governors, asking for voter information. What they are requesting is above and beyond voter information that is in public records. I wrote the following email to the Illinois State Board of Elections, which is in charge of voter records here. In many states, it is their respective secretaries of state. If you want to contact your elected officials, my letter might serve as a template? of issues you might want to include. Just puttin' it out there:
To Whom It may Concern:
My name is Barbara __________, and I am a registered voter in Illinois. I am writing to ask the Board of Elections to deny any request for voter rolls (and their public release) from the Trump Administration representative, Kris Korbach. The requested level of detail is completely unnecessary and is in violation of my right to privacy. I am convinced that the aspects of my voter information that are public will suffice in any inquiry the government might have.
I do not give you permission to share private information to any third party. Such information includes, but is not limited to, my Social Security Number (even the last four digits), employment, military record, and arrest records. If need be, you may send me those requests personally, and then I will decide which requests I choose to honor and those I do not.
Besides my right to privacy as a citizen of the United States, I am also aware of that my personal information is more and more susceptible to the intrusion of hackers, as attested to by the incidents in the Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and worldwide! Increased, AND TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, possession of personal data by the government puts my privacy at risk, and I do not give my permission for election officials to do so. I would appreciate your assistance in keeping that information safe. I feel that it is your legal duty to me.
Thank you so much.....

Good idea Barbb! I believe those records come under the Secretary of State here in Tennessee as well, and as Tennessee is a very red state I'm sure the SS will not hesitate to give him anything he asks for. Trump's commission does not need that information to determine whether or not voter fraud occurred. What he wants is the information to be utilized by himself and also the RNC, and who knows who else he will ultimately share it with. I don't trust him or anyone who works for him for a second. "The chair of President Trump's Election Integrity Commission has penned a letter to all 50 states requesting their full voter-roll data, including the name, address, date of birth, party affiliation, last four Social Security number digits and voting history back to 2006 of potentially every voter in the state." -- The Washington Post I don't believe for a minute that voter fraud is a big issue, but if they want to check it out all they need to know is that I am registered to vote and I voted. They don't need to know my party affiliation, last 4 of my Social Security, and certainly they have no need to know my voting history. Actually here in TN we don't register by party, but in order to vote in a primary you have to request a particular party's ballot so it's easy to figure out. Although it would be possible to cross lines during a primary. LOL! I'm pretty sure when DH and I voted in this last primary we were the only Democrats standing in line at my precinct. Heck! I wouldn't put it past this JA to try and retaliate in some way against people he thought voted against him. He is following very closely in Nixon's footsteps. Remember Nixon's enemies list? The difference is that Nixon was a lot smarter than Trump.

I read in PoliticalWire that even Kris Kobach, who is also Kansas Secy of State, is not complying with the Social Security info requested.
Besides why all this indignation about imagined voter fraud when there was proven election interference from Russia? So of course, we loosen the sanctions on Russia.

Thanks for posting that, Barbb. I'm going to share it with everyone I know. This guy tires me out. Joyce, it's not Nixon this deranged JA reminds me of. Thank you, Pam. I hope you also have a nice/relaxing holiday weekend. BTW, I love you're new avatar. You look good! So does your car. lol.
