Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

I had a quiet afternoon yesterday, lots of couch time. DH made chili for dinner which hit the spot on a chilly day. I was tempted to turn on the fireplace for a while. After dinner I sampled the marshmallow Twix (Witch's Brew). The marshmallow was okay but the green coating was yucky. Ate it anyway, sigh. After dinner I watched an UpTV movie and finished stitching the star shapes for more magic wands. I had a little trouble falling asleep but managed to get 7 hours by sleeping in until almost 9.
It's another pretty day starting in the low 40's. We're supposed to get in the low 30's tonight so I need to bring in the porch plants and pick what's still on the garden plants. I'm going to have a lot of sweet and chili peppers and green tomatoes to deal with. The green tomatoes should ripen inside or I might make another batch of chow chow. I'll probably freeze the peppers.
Cathy- Glad you slept well. Sounds like a busy day fielding phone calls and emails to field. Sorry about the biting bugs. You have such a varied and interesting diet.

M-W Word of the Day
exact verb | ig-ZAKT What It Means To exact something (such as payment or revenge) is to demand it and get it, especially by using force or threats. Exact is also used in phrases like "exact a terrible toll" and "exact a high/heavy price" to say that something has caused a lot of suffering, loss, etc. // The novel's protagonist is undeterred by either time or circumstance in her effort to exact revenge. // Our mistakes exacted a heavy price.

Figuring out my To-Do for this morning, going to get a few things I've thought of that I want for the camping trip but won't do any more bigger shopping until we get home. Skipped coffee this morning, not sure who was going but I didn't need anymore coffee and figure I could get a few things done. Mailed Bday card to my sis, texted with DS, who is on the GF phone as his is dying and wondered if he should get an upgrade through T mobile, or just go to Best Buy. We'll see what works out, but I don't want him putting a payment on our phone bill, he would just pay outright for the phone. SInce DH doesn't really use a phone, he just has Mint and so DS has just never left our phone service, not that he's spoiled or anything . We were supposed to get a freeze last night but my fuschia and begonias are still alive outside so I don't think we got that cold. I had taken cutting from my wandering jew, which I guess now you call wandering dude, or inch plant, and coleus to root in the house, and dug out my Rosemary to bring in just in case. HOpe I can keep some things alive. The bulbs are all still happily waiting in their bags near the front door. At least they moved that much closer from the back porch! Thinking this weekend as we are supposed to get 4-5 more days of mid 70's. I wanted to go camping on the weekend for the better weather, but all the sites were booked. It will work out as DH NEEDS to be home Friday for Ducks football against Purdue. Guess I better get moving so something gets done today. Have a great Hump Day all. Jan Cathy. Sounds like yummy meal plan for the day. I have not found arugula very often here, sometimes at the Farmers market, or in a bag at the store mixed with spinach. I've tried to grow it and it bolts before I get much picked. You have a great attitude, enjoy your day. Amy Good luck picking the veggies that are hanging on. I don't think I would have liked the twix. I'm waiting to buy Halloween candy until the last minute!! I was happy this morning when DH even through out the rest of a berry Kringle he has brought home saying it was too sweet. Maybe it was but I would have kept picking away at it because it was here on the counter. For now the kitchen space is "clean" of temptation and the goal is to get thru the grocery with no detours in the cart. Last night I saved my 1/2 Quest bar to have with a cup of tea and treat it as a dessert. See if I can repeat today. Can you set up for the fair the night before or just early in the morning? At least sis and I can set up Friday night in the high school and then just be ready Saturday to see what happens. Which makes me think, I need to start collecting $1 and 5's to be able to make change. Guess we are doing cash or checks only. Carole Interesting that you get election day off, that must be a new Illinois thing, I know a lot of states have been pushing for that. Which zoo did you go to, Brookfield or Lincoln Park? GG. Yay for being mostly done being the president of woman's group. Hope you got all you movement hours or got to the Y. Waving hi to all.

Hi All!
Infusion went fine...traffic over wasn't too bad and coming home though slow, traffic moved steadily. Unfortunately once home, I tweaked my back by lifting forty pounds and not realizing it when I picked up the box. I'm having trouble standing up straight so basically have stayed in bed for most of the day and can see another early bedtime.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. The Twix doesn't sound great though I do like regular Twix. I'm leaving last year's candy in the freezer and of course I will probably to it, making no sense. Sounds like you'll have a bountiful harvest. I tend to freeze peppers since I buy more than I need. We are going down to the forties in the evening and then low seventies. Hope it lasts. If I can ever keep myself together I could go out and start winterizing.
Jan, Happy vibes to DS and GF! Do you think there is any chance that the proposal will be on the Jumbotron at the game? Nice to know others plan their lives around sports games, lol. Glad your plants survived the night and your bulbs are slowly getting to their home. I think the plant gods are working against me. We are suppose to have a mild winter so I do have time to get bulbs in the ground.
Carole, how was the zoo? The voting sites in our area are at city hall, library and churches. School is in session.
Cathy, hope you were able to accomplish answering calls and emails.
Vicki, glad you were able to pass on being the President of the women's group. It will be nice to be able to help the next President.
Time to take another pain reliever. Fingers crossed another night of rest will help.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Hi friends! Decided at 5:20 am to take the day off from working out. I should just decide the night before and then I could sleep until 7:20! It’s been relatively easy at work as this week the menu is different. I didn’t have to make 360 taco shells!!
Amy, I barely recognized you in your facebook post! You look amazing! And the flowers are gorgeous!
Jan, I think this is the first year we’ve had the day off for the election. I just assumed they are afraid of what could happen. When is your fair?
Cindy, I’m so sorry you hurt your back. You just can’t catch a break.

Jan, we went to Brookfield. Jeff and I went to zoo lights last year—I bought a membership since it pays for itself if you go two times. My df’s daughter works with the dolphins—she said they’re really trying to update the zoo in the next 10 years, that will mark their 100 anniversary. It’s quite surprising how bad (can’t figure out the right word—lackluster maybe?) the zoo is in comparison to other zoos. Like Indianapolis or Omaha. Just because it’s Chicago.

Quiet day at home yesterday. Mounah collected carob pods with a neighbor but has more to gather before taking them to the refinery for processing. Checked in with family and friends. Wrote a review and started another book. Lunch will be leftover rice-veg-beans with yogurt sauce or gravy and fruit for dessert. It will be a good day.
We eat pretty much from the garden, local produce, whole grains, olive oil from our trees, and then throw in some dairy and eggs with bread...it is what is in season or preserved and we are lucky to have the wide variety and great growing season to provide it.
Wishing all the best!
