Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

We left around 10 yesterday morning to set up for the Fall Fest. Cory drove his car, helped up set up, then went on home. It was a beautiful day, warming up quickly. Sales were slower than last year, but it was fun people watching. It was amusing watching the girls in their sweaters and boots when it was really T-shirt weather by the afternoon. They do a costume contest, so a lot of kids in costumes. I got a lot of compliments on my stuff and did a lot of chatting with folks stopping by, including a couple of the girls from my exercise classes. I didn't get a lot of steps for the day, but a decent calorie burn. I sat and stitched when I could but got up every time there was a customer, and re-arranged stuff after most sales. I sold 4 out of the 10 magic wands I made, need to make more pink ones for next time. I'm not sure I made enough money ($200) to make it worth my while, but I enjoy doing it and people seem to appreciate what I sell. In a LOL moment, I chatted with a guy and his wife and sold him $20+ worth of stuff and didn't realize until he walked away that he was the HOA president. I was really tired by the time we got every hauled in from the truck, had a bit of couch time and dinner and felt better after that. We had some of my canned green beans with dinner, they were pretty good. I watched a Hallmark movie, took a bath, read, fell asleep easily and slept like a rock other than getting up to pee around 4.
It's another pretty day today. The goal is to inventory and put away the rest of the Fall Fest stuff.
Jan- Glad you had a good day, yay for crossing stuff off your to-do list and the deal on squash. It will keep. For what it's worth, I did half and half cash vs Venmo/Zelle sales. I only sold a couple of tissue box covers, which usually sell better than that. Sold lots of $2 ornaments and $1 gift card holders and a couple of Santas. Weirdly, I had 2 different people looking for Iowa stuff, sold the 1 ornament I had. I'm not sure the raffle added to my sales, but the lady that won the bat candy dish was very excited about it. I gave free raffle tickets with each purchase, the more you bought, the more tickets you got. Oh, and a few people asked about wine bottle covers. I definitely need to look into that.
Cathy- Yay for going out for pizza and a beautiful sunny day, being able to talk to your daughter. WTG voting, I think we'll vote next week.

M-W Word of the Day
defenestration noun | dee-fen-uh-STRAY-shun What It Means Defenestration is most often used to refer to a usually swift dismissal or expulsion, as from a political party or office. It is also used to refer to a throwing of a person or thing out of a window. // Once fancying itself something of a big tent, the group now seeks the defenestration of any local leader who isn't aligned with the current mayor's administration. // Ingrid's annoyance at the alarm clock’s persistent drone led to the clock's sudden defenestration from her eighth-floor bedroom.

Hi all. Going to head out to a craft fair that's here this morning at the Convention Center, do some recon and see what people are selling. Then a lot of couch time I think, both my arms are sore this morning, and a bit across my back, tender when I rolled over last night. Just take some Tylenol and do some knitting and football watching later. Will be back to check in later. Amy if I made $50 I'd be happy, so keeping my fingers crossed and see what people are willing to buy. Hope you have a nice relaxing day. Jan

Back from the sale. Can't say there was anything too interesting that stood out. Crochet animals, mugs and tumblers, some woodworking, wreaths, some commercial vendors. It was more fall themed instead of Christmas so didn't really get any fun ideas that sis and I could do. Does help to see some of the booths, we need some shelves to put up on the tables, or taller ones for the floor so everything isn't just flat. Most people had signs that just said cash or check but some were doing Venmo or Zelle. All we can do is see what happens. The small town where we're going to be isn't going to have a ton of outside foot traffic but it will be fine. Now to work on some of my projects here today and just keep packing things up to take. My eating and exercise were pretty good yesterday until I got into some of the wine DH had in the cupboard and that we'd used in the Pot pie gravy. A new day to get it together and be OP. Tonight we are making Ahi with veggies and probably rice. Just feeling kind of hungry today so see how I manage. Hope you all have a great Sunday and start off your new week with all the Vim and Vigor, I think I may find a bit after I take a little nap ha ha. Enjoy, Jan
Amy Interesting at our fair, no sports stuff really, a few GB magnets and cups, no plastic canvas, really no knitting, everyone is crocheting now. Maybe I'll have some different things. I liked your sign, I have a banner I made once, maybe I'll pull it out and see how it would work on the front of a table. I like your idea of a raffle but not sure how we'd do that, how did you "announce" you winner? We're the questions about wine bottle covers like the kind you sew up? Do you have another sale before Christmas somewhere?
Cathy Hope you can talk to the GK and son today. Did you go out for pizza or do you bring it home?
Cindy. Sorry about the Texas outcome, not sure what happened there. How have you been feeling this weekend?
Waving hi to all.

Hi friends! It was a beautiful day! My gym is open!! They did a very nice job! It was so nice to see a lot of people today. Last night I went to see Lee DeWyze, he’s an American Idol winner. My df loves him. He’s from our area, Mt Prospect, I think. The venue was very intimate, maybe 150 people. It was nice. I had a glass of wine, $13!!! Another reason to be AF. Amy, your booth looked really nice! I love your sign!
Jan, a girl I know went to Devils lake this weekend too. She said how nice it is. I’ll have to remember that for next year.
Cindy, I hope you’re feeling better.
Ugh, I need to get botfrtwbihhrt!

Hi Amy, Jan, Carole and all that follow!
Spent most of the weekend sleeping or watching sports. Not a good weekend for my teams. Though I know it is wrong for UT fans to throw water bottles on the field....no beer cans despite reports....I could understand the frustration. I'm sure the school isn't too thrilled with $250K fine. We played poorly but for the Bulldogs to have two targeting calls plus one that wasn't called, and for the coach after the win saying the refs tried to rob us.....grow up...you are lucky your team is in the NCAA. Off that soap box.
The Patriots, sigh...guess they want to get first pick at the end of the season. I did not realize that the field in London is the Jackson Jaguars field...news to me.
Have an early appointment with the eye surgeon. Will check traffic before I leave . Will go to sleep as soon as I post.
Amy, loved the photos of your booth. As long as you are enjoying participating in the fair, it is worth it. Plus you are making lots of contacts.
Jan, good luck with your fair. Sounds like a nice weekend.
Carole, glad your gym is open!! $13 for a glass of wine would stop me!.
Cathy, yay for pizza. Hope you were able to connect with family today.
Vicki, how was your weekend?
Off to bed, hope springs eternal that I will be sleeping less this coming week. Thanks for bearing with me.
Hugs to all, Cindy

It is much cooler today and I am wearing a warm fleece robe. I have a good book to read and might make some hot tea in a little while. Breakfast and lunch were healthy and on program ~ I look forward to finishing strong with a healthy dinner. Talked to our son and one granddaughter as the other one was at a sleepover still.
