Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

From there I'll run a few errands, check out Aldi's and pick up my free product at Bath and Body. Then home to help DH put in some more bulbs before sis comes at some point this afternoon. I went in search of some shelves that I thought I could use across the rungs of a small ladder we have to make a taller display for the fair. I found some in the clearance cut bin so now to try them out today. DH started planting in the front yesterday but it always starts with cutting back the old plants, then he was thinking now that it's clear we should get some bark, like Give a Mouse a Cookie. If we can get the rest of the bulbs in we'll go get bark, which I saw for 3 for $10 at Lowes. Friday a contractor comes with a contract to do our dormer shingles and some other work, looking at @ 10 grand I think. OUch. Merry Christmas to us. We've been waiting 2 years for Nick, our other guy, and he just can't get to it, we finally just figured we'd have the guy that just did the neighbors house. At least he has a big crew and we know it will be done by next month. Hopefully the last big project for a long time. Just heard from sis and looks like now she'll only come for tonight as she needs to go home to take care of her horse. It has some medical problems and she has to make special feed and give meds. Her DH will help when it's just put the food out, but he's not good about anything else so she worries. At least we can figure out our fair stuff and she can come to knitting with me tomorrow. Guess enough rambling for now. Need to get going so I can meet up at Hardees . Will check back with personals later. Jan

Yoga was good yesterday morning. The room was cold when we started, but she warmed us up with a bunch of sun salutations. DH met me to walk afterwards, was able to take my hoodie off after the first lap. When we got home I was online a bit to do the stuff I usually do first thing in the morning, but had to skip since I was running late. Then I got busy canning the chow chow, ended up with 4.5 pint jars. I had some couch time in the afternoon, dozing a little. We had pulled chicken sandwiches with some of the chow chow for dinner with chips and dip. I watched a Hallmark movie after dinner and stitched on my Halloween tissue box cover. As I was going upstairs to bath/bed, I found cat puke on the stairs. It apparently had been there long enough to be mostly dry and by some miracle was on the wood trim and not the carpet. Yuck. When I went to bed I had trouble falling asleep, tossed and turned and finally gave up and read some more.
It's a pretty day, right around 50 degrees, heading to close to 80. We plan on going to vote today.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, blue dot, vowing to be AF the rest of the week. The acorn top ornaments sound cute. Yay for leftovers, the tarragon chicken being a success, your ballot being received, enjoying the book. My exercise classes should be helping with weight loss, not sure what is actually happening, but happy with it. The Monday evening yoga instructor said to call her if we could get 20 people signed up, so it doesn't sound hopeful. I did ask the morning instructor (Ginger) if she would consider doing an evening class, she said she would think about it. I either figured out Stridekick or it figured itself out, but it's back to working again. Have you thought about making Tootsie pop spiders? It's an easy quick project, especially if you already have some of the supplies.
Vicki- WTG having rollovers, attending Zoom meeting and water class. Sorry it was the harder, grumpy instructor, WTG making her smile. I have not heard of Evercrisp apples, I do like the Honey Crisp.
Cindy- Glad you are doing better, hugs!
Cathy- Yay for time with a friend. Enjoy your wraps.

M-W Word of the Day
palaver noun | puh-LAV-er What It Means Palaver is an informal word that usually refers to unimportant or meaningless talk. It can also refer to misleading or deceptive speech, or to a conference or discussion. In British English the word is sometimes used as a synonym of fuss to refer to unnecessary excitement about something. // Enough of this palaver. We have more important things to discuss.

Surprisingly, I was down .4. I think I was -40 in weeklies? Yesterday was also an OP day, and I’m working on having one today. I line danced this morning and gave my presentation to the kids about my Yellowstone trip. I think they enjoyed it. It was very interactive. It’s getting late, so I guess I won’t get a nap in today. I’m going to fix a meatloaf with ground turkey/hamburg. DH has been hunting so I fix things he can warm up easily.
Amy: What a nice surprise from your kitty! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was talking to the girl at dance about getting the square dance started, and she told me the board wanted a list of names of who said they would attend. I told her I had all kinds of people messaging me and that if they schedule it, they will come. I’m not giving them a list. Someone must think it’s a bad idea!
Jan: I’m sure you had fun today! Nothing is low cost when remodeling or repairing!
Cindy: Glad you are feeling some better!

Hi all. Back from all the shenanigans and now just sitting a bit. Sis even just went up for a little cat nap so I thought I'd check in. Coffee was good, not the coffee , the conversation. Always a bit afraid to talk too loudly there as there are a lot of groups of older people, lots of men with their vets hats etc, and sure all of our politics wouldn't jibe. Don't want to get into it, or offend. Afterwards I ducked into Aldi's, got some little Santa string lights to put on our table top tree for the sale, some bread and a little light up reindeer that will sit by my vintage light up ceramic tree. Then to Bath and Body to get my free body wash. I just collect them and send the to DS. Sis came a bit after 12:30 and we went out to lunch at Hu Hot. Maybe not the best, but not the worst. I tried to load up on chicken and veggies for my stir fry. But then couldn't resist the soft serve ice cream. We then stopped at Hobby Lobby and I got a few things. See what the evening brings, I need to get some steps but not feeling that motivated now. Hope you have all had a nice day. Jan Amy. Sounds like you have been busy, glad the canning got done. Sorry about the cat surprise. I was surprised to see the line at the voting place when I went this morning, still there when I came home and Still!! there when sis and I came home. Wisconsin is going to set some kind of record for sure. I'm going to make some Chex mix and the Puppy chow sweet kind for the sale. I bought the cello bags at the store today. Some is going in some little Hostess gifts and hoping to find the red and green MMs or Hershey kisses before the sale. I'm printing tags on my Cricut that say "We "Whisk" you a Merry Christmas and tying them to Dollar tree whisks. You put the candy inside the wire hoops. See what happens with those. Enjoy your beautiful weather. GG. Glad the scale was nice today. yay for making someone smile. Hope you can get your square dance together. I have ground turkey on my list as it's on sale this week. I like mixing it with other things too. Yay for rollovers the other day. This morning I place another couple bags of bulbs out in the front bed and DH was busy out there getting them in the ground. Guess I'll owe him one. We still have daffodils and some orange tulips to find places for. Hi Cindy and Cathy. Waving hi.

Hi All!
Sleep still messed up. Last night I got up at 1 AM to use the bathroom. I usually don't turn on the light but for some reason I did and there was a scorpion next to my bed! Ainsley was next to my bed also so I scooped her up and then trapped the scorpion pushing it on to the tile floor. I sprayed it with starch....not that it is a solution but it stopped it so I could stomp it with a shoe. Probably was still alive but flushed it down the guest bathroom toilet. And what was in the hallway...an Amazon box of toilet paper. Why don't I learn?
Was able to keep crackers down and finally able to take my RX pills and keep them down. Baby steps. The exhaustion is still getting to me.
Hope springs eternal that I will be back to posting tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Woke to a beautiful morning, stretched, looked out the window at the sunshine, and thought of all the possibilities the day might hold in store for me. I am soon to finish up on the computer and then will probably take a shower, make something for lunch, and then take a shower before settling in to read and hopefully finish a book today. Lunch could be a grain bowl or tuna and peas on rice or something else. I am sure we will eat but am not sure yet what lunch will be.
Hope you all sleep well tonight and wake refreshed in the morning!
