Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

DH & I drove to the lake to walk yesterday morning. It had been a while since we were there, the leaves were gorgeous, the weather beautiful. We stopped at Home Depot to get cilantro and rosemary plants. After lunch I had some couch time and napped a bit. I made a pot of vegetable soup for dinner and once it was going I finally cut up the sweet and chile peppers that have been in fridge since the frost. It will be nice to have them in the freezer and ready to go for use over the winter. I still need to deal with a big bag of jalapenos. I think I'm going to just freeze them whole and cut them up as needed. After dinner I watched a new Hallmark Xmas movie and stitched. I was in bed by 11 and slept pretty well.
It's cloudy again this morning, in the mid-50's. I'm going to yoga then I think we'll drive up to Gibbs Gardens to leaf peep.
Vicki- Yay for going leaf peeping and enjoying watching yours fall off the trees. I love fall and enjoy the nostalgia of having leaves on the ground like when I was a kid. Sorry so much has changed in the town where you used to live. Glad you had a nice weekend, got to talk to the boys, great music and sermon at church. My goal weight is 133, which is where my BMI will be in the normal range. I'm not sure I'll get there, but something to aim for.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, tracking. Sorry about the detour. I get being overwhelmed by a giant to-do list, the craft fair will be in your rear view mirror soon. I'm overdue for a Me360 too. We haven't really talked about the Indiana trip yet, but it will probably just be a long weekend for DH and I.
Carole- Sorry the dogs are a lot. Yay for election day off, I know too well the feeling of being down on work.
Cindy- I'm so sorry this situation with your health has been going on for 3 weeks. Glad you are following up with your doctor and hope you have indeed turned a corner. Hugs!
Cathy- Glad you are feeling better after going to bed earlier. Hope all goes well at the carob processing plant.

It's already @70 degrees and so nice out. I'm a bit crabby with DH as I expected him to be gone when I got home as he had an eye appointment at 9:15 and really needs new glasses. Find him still here, he just decided not to go. Uggh. I think he's in a "mood" so I will just steer clear until I see what's up . Just going to keep working on my list for today, getting some things done. Yesterday I got my new "toy" in the mail, I bought a heat press for my Cricut, now to get the use out of it. I do have some pot holders to iron on today and may go buy some more to make if I feel like it. Have all the back stickers for the key chains cut out so will get those all attached and that will be done. I've checked in with sis, she's already had tears yesterday and today about deciding to put her horse down. She feels she's doing the right thing, with winter coming and the horse not eating well, you have to decide when the ground is still not frozen because they bury them. The next few days will be tough for her, I'm hoping even just sitting at the craft fair and being out with people on Saturday will help a little. Talked to DS and heard more of the stories. They don't even think they would try to do a wedding before spring or summer of 2026 but you never know. They are going to NY this weekend as some friends are running the marathon and they will cheer them on. Also pick up their pup who has been there for a few weeks. He'll be so glad to go home with his people. I got all my chex mixes bagged up yesterday with only a few little samples, NSV. Guess I better get busy as it's already going on 11! Where does the time go? Have a great day all. Jan Amy. Thanks for starting us. Hope you get up to Gibbs Ranch and have a beautiful day. I think you will get to your goal weight. You are going slow and steady and being so consistent. Keep it up! Our leader today shared a recipe she has been making for Butternut squash soup. She just does 2 bags of frozen squash, @8 fresh big carrots cut up, a block of the 1/2 fat cream cheese , or could be FF half and half or greek yogurt, chicken broth and stir it up. Mash up the squash or leave some chunky with the carrots, or puree it all. I thought apple and onion would also be good. May try it with the fresh squash I have on my porch. So the kids wouldn't go up for the Thanksgiving weekend? Cindy. So sorry you are still not "right". Does the dr want to run tests, or have you talked about it? No fun to always feel run down and beat up. Hugs to you. Carole. Sorry the dogs are naughty . Guess I'll stick with cats, ha ha, who are also naughty. Glad you get election day off and can see the holiday breaks in your future. I remember feeling the time from when school started in August until Thanksgiving break was SO long. Will you have Thanksgiving at your house? I have no clue what we may do. Cathy Hope you can get the carob beans processed and share with someone else who could use them. Have you had any meet ups with your friends lately or is everyone laying low at home. Glad you have books and things to do to stay busy. And Bella is good company. GG. Enjoy your day at the Y. It's hard to go back to a home town or place you have memories from and have everything changed. Waving hi.

I haven't been following any program, and I am drinking a little too much on the days that I stay home. I am enjoying the grandchildren immensely; I just can't seem to get enough hugs and kisses, and giggles. I am working on a cable knit blanket to give to my DSIL for Christmas. I know she will love it and I wanted her to have something made by me with so much love. She is 92 years young and you would never know it. She is the one who has more hardware in her from all her falls through the years and just keeps going, God bless her. Anyway, I am hoping to try to get BOT and ease up on the A; it has been affecting my mood and my sleep most negatively. I need to try to do better for my body and soul. Amy~ Thank you for getting us started. WOOT, WOOT getting into a new decade, you are rocking it! Slow and steady, you will definitely reach your goal! Jan~ Congratulations MOG!! What are you planning on bringing to the fair? Is it this weekend? So sorry to hear that Sis has to put her horse down. She will have you to lean on for love and support. Cindy~ Sorry to hear that you have not been feeling well. I am still having minor bouts with my positional vertigo, and my sinuses. I swear that blocked sinuses could affect vertigo, but I am not a doctor so who knows. Waving hi to Murphy, Carole, Vicki, and Cathy!
