Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

HOCUS POCUS, WE NEED TO FOCUS!
September 3 - October 31
The focus of this challenge is to become a healthier, happier, Boo-ti-ful person for Halloween and it won’t be a costume.
As always we are working towards/maintaining being AF! We need to take a look at what is our witching hour and how do we prevent it. What can you replace your brew with? One suggestion is make a list of treats that you will be able to have if you don’t give into the brew. Give yourself a face mask (facial) or maybe make mummy jalapeño poppers.
For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously in spite of the puns. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself.
This isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a moratorium and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been a fright so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. We understand there may be special occasions for which you may plan for an AIM detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So what are you going to be for Halloween and beyond? A much healthier, happier person sounds great! RIP alcohol and junk food. AND you will be going into the final two months of the year in great shape!
Have a healthy, happy Halloween!

Will be going to knitting after I get cleaned up and have some breakfast. Then when I get home start to pack up the car with tables, shelves, mini tree etc. Get some of my tubs in that are full, will wait with the food things and last minutes until tomorrow. Still need to find some tablecloths, may just go to Dollar store later and get some plastic ones. Made up all my price signs and lists yesterday. I’ve said enough is enough, Whatever we have will be plenty and I’m not going to try to force in a bunch of extra things today. Just go enjoy my friends, go to lunch and then be ready for Trick or Treat. Our town sets the time from 5-7 so at least there’s an end. Glad I didn’t open my bags of candy until yesterday, know I would have gotten into it over the week . Had one mini bar and tomorrow the rest will go with me up north. We’ll put any extra on the table for people. Sis says she is just going to make a big pot of chili to have for dinner tomorrow, then we can eat whenever we get back from setting up. It rained pretty good last night and it’s going to continue today. See if it’s wet at costume time, too bad after so many nice days lately. Picked up the Van, they didn’t repair the shock as DH says there is a warranty still on it from Biltstein and he will see if he can get a new one. We don’t need to have it replaced before next year but he wants to get the claim in with the company while it’s still hopefully covered. Now just waiting for the key from the storage guy. Guess I better get moving. Looking forward to the new challenge. I will be back later with personals. Jan

DH & I walked the nature trail yesterday morning. I was mostly okay with my hip/knee issue, but the hills were ouchy. When we got back I puttered outside a bit, picked a handful of green beans and a couple of cherry tomatoes. There are a bunch of small jalapenos. I had lunch and then headed for my haircut. The girls in the salon were all dressed up in 80's costumes, a lot of exaggerated hair and makeup. My stylist has an assistant who gave me a lovely head and neck massage while washing my hair. I'm happy with my haircut, I think we've finally figured out what works for me. After the salon I went to Walmart and Costco. I didn't buy a lot at Costco (4 cases of Fairlife) and braved the self checkout, which worked out okay. I got home after 3:30, had a bit of couch time. We had rotisserie chicken from Costco, some pasta, green beans, and cucumber salad. After dinner I stitched and watched an Xmas movie. I'm working on a Georgia Tech tissue box cover for the neighbor.
The sun is back today! It's starting in the mid 60's and should be nice for the trick or treaters. I probably don't have enough candy, but I'll just turn out the porch light when I run out. DH is off to a doctor's appointment. My hip and knee feel better today, although I still get twinges on the stairs. I think I'll just do a walking video in the basement today.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, tracking. Sorry coffee was cancelled, but I guess it allowed you to get more stuff done. Glad you feel a breakthrough coming. Sorry for dear sis and the vet visit. I love the pics of your stuff on FB, yay for being able to set up the night before. I'm thinking the yoga is popular b/c of the time of day and the fact that it's free. We have a very active 55+ community and it's a lot of the same people that come to water aerobics.
Vicki- Yay for beautiful weather. I love the dancing leaves too, those Joro spiders are no joke. Sorry about getting crucified on FB. I'll be glad when it's over too.
Carole- Yay for beautiful weather. We decided to move here partly due to Cory living in Atlanta and also it was the halfway point when we drove to Indiana from Florida. We usually stopped in Acworth when driving north b/c it was just north of Atlanta so that we didn't have to deal with ATL traffic when starting driving the second day. This area is really pretty around Thanksgiving, cold but not Indiana cold, and there's a big lake. So when we started looking at houses, the realtor showed us houses in the Acworth area, which actually encompasses a big area and 3-4 counties. We looked in other towns too, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Hiram, Powder Springs, and quite a few that were pretty rural. We decide that we didn't want to deal with having a septic system and really liked the Seven Hills community and it's amenities. Even though we have a Dallas address, we are actually closer to Acworth. We're close enough to Atlanta to be able to enjoy what it offers, but far enough out to not have awful traffic. Marietta is really nice too, but is more expensive. We drive to Marietta for a lot of our specialist doctor visits. It probably would have been a better choice for DD to find a job. We pay a lot less in property tax and insurance than Florida.
Cindy- Hope the doctor appt goes well and you get some answers.
Cathy- Enjoy your time with friends.

Jan- WTG blue dot and AF yesterday and deciding you have enough for craft fair. Enjoy knitting. Yay for trick or treating ending at 7. Having a candy bowl on your table is a good way to get rid of the leftover candy. Hope the shock is covered under warranty.

October 15: ? October 22: ? October 28 215.0 Happy Halloween! Final weigh in: 215.4 Happy Halloween! The past several years I have only gotten 2 kids trick or treating, and I ended up eating almost all the candy. So this year I am going to be scrooge and leave the outside lights off, lol, bah, humbug, lol! I can't believe that the weather will be in the mid to high 70s today! Yesterday Home Depot delivered 8 new window sashes. When I purchased my windows and back patio door 14 years ago from HD, the ones that I chose have a life time guarantee. They replaced 8 due to the seals broke and condensation got it. I was told that they may be discontinuing the life time and switching to a 20 year guarantee. I love them because they are white on the outside and a natural hardwood color on the inside which matches all my woodwork trim in the house. I also took out all my summer clothes from my bedroom closet and moved them to bureau drawers upstairs. I still have to go through a couple of drawers in my bedroom and start throwing out old tops that I no longer wear. Trying to weed out which only gives me more room to buy some new ones, lol. I over did the A yesterday, after having an AF day the day before. I will shoot for an AF day today. I counted the number of skeins left to knit for the blanket for DSIL and realized that I am half way through which was a nice surprise. Staying home today and will try to make a dent in the knitting. I forgot to tell you that DD finally went for her endoscopy to rule out Celiac because Isabel has it, and her DH previously tested and he was negative. The baby had the gene test and he too is negative. Unfortunately Elyse found out that she had Celiac and was actually told to stop gluten immediately. Since hers was asymptomatic it was considered very rare. The photos from the endoscopy were negative indications, it was the biopsies that were taken that proved Celiac. She doesn't need to see a nutritionist because she has been cooking for Isabel for the past two years. I am planning on speaking to my PC when I see him in December and see if I can get the gene test as well. We don't even know how long Elyse has had this disease, they did say that once she is gluten free, she will start to heal. Amy~ Sorry about the ouchy knees when you hit the hilly parts of your walk. That must have luxurious having a neck and head massage. Yay for locking onto the right haircut! Jan~ Yay for not opening the bags of candy too early! Good luck with the fair this weekend, sounds like you are really prepared for it. Glad Sis will be coming with you. Cindy~ Hope your appointment with the doctor gives you some answers and you start to feel better. Vicki~ I have one girlfriend that we definitely cannot discuss the election; we are really on opposite ends of the spectrum! So I certainly understand how you felt. How is DD enjoying her new home, and how close is she to you? Carole~ Are you and DH empty nesters? Will you be looking to move to a warmer climate? Cathy~ Love seeing your photos of your home and surroundings on FB. Your views are gorgeous. Love your china! Hoping to get on board and really make an effort. Not sure who said it, but I liked the quote of wanting the make the rest of my life, the best of my life.

Hi girls. Home from knitting and then we did lunch at Perkins. I actually did breakfast so not too bad and only $6. Of course stopped to do some errands on the way home, Dollar store for table clothes and had to get 3 more pot holders just because . They had Swiss miss there for @1.29 so figured I could do more cocoa mits. Then Hobby Lobby and Walgreens to get my scripts. I had to wait and then they finally said insurance won't pay until the 16th. I still have enough, they were the one's who told me I needed to refill. Anyway, home again to do these few projects and get the car packed up. We've had a bit of rain and currently it's dry so see if I can get DH to help me. Guess I better get busy. Happy Halloween all. Jan Amy. Glad you knee felt better but maybe good to stay close to home today. Yay for a hair cut you like and can continue with, I always feel hit or miss. Enjoy your day and any Trick or treaters you get. Sounds like you found the perfect place to move too and you are happy. I feel we may have one more move in us but I want to wait to see what DS does, DH says we can't just worry about them, which means he doesn't want to move any farther east . Who knows, I like it here and I like being close to family and the cabin. Just figure at some point we may want a house with only one floor. Liz. I think it's fine to have the light off, especially if you haven't had many kids the last couple years. Hope DD gets some real answers and glad she has already been changing her diet. We'll get some new Fairly Dust this next challenge!!! Carole. Even if I do sell my card holders I can easily make you some before Christmas. Hope today wasn't too crazy at work. Did you all dress up? GG. Sorry about the political mess. I really feel this election no one is going to "win" as either way so many people will be unhappy or disgruntled with the results. Just hope things stay safe and sane. Waving hi. DH just got home and I need to use his labor while I can :0
