We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Yay! Glad your son is home for a visit Anne. Enjoy every single moment of it!
Nothing new in the world here. I no longer even get shocked about Tweety's vicious, ugly tweets. Bill Clinton disgraced the office of the presidency, but this JA has far surpassed anything Clinton ever did. I was ashamed and embarrassed by Clinton's actions. I was appalled and disgusted by the lies and unnecessary invasion of Iraq by GW Bush. But this guy. He makes them both look like saints. The whole world is laughing at us, and certainly no where do they have any trust in us. So just going to enjoy my own little insular life, and as much as possible shut out the noise for the next few days at least.
Raining at my house right now. Hope it doesn't rain on your parade or fireworks.

"Fourth of July marks our nation's independence from King George III, a mentally deranged leader. We've come so far." -- Andy Borowitz
Comment on Borowitz's statement above on FB from a German: "To be honest: we Germans think that you Americans have completely lost your minds. Sorry for speaking out. But what's going on over there is beyond imagination. Some decades ago, you taught us decency and democratic values. Well, the times, they are a changin'. Actually, I don't think your people lack knowledge about how a democracy is run. It's education you seem to lack massively. What have you taught people in schools so that they are willing to follow a con artist who's utterly stupid and shockingly rude?" -- Stefan Sipl
Anyone wondering what the rest of the world thinks of us now?

Well, we know what Germany thinks about us anyway.

Instead of the President of the US being considered the leader of the free world, more and more that designation is going to Angela Merkle. We did this to ourselves, rather a certain segment of our society did it to us and the rest of us were not able to stop it.

No, White Friend—You Weren’t “Embarrassed” by Barack Obama MAY 26, 2017 / JOHN PAVLOVITZ
I remember the day after the Election, a friend of mine who happens to be white, remarked on social media that he “finally wasn’t embarrassed of America and our President.”
I sprained my eyes rolling them and they have never fully recovered.
Since then I’ve heard this sentiment echoed by more white folks than I can count, especially in recent months; supposed relief at once again having a leader who instills pride.
Since I don’t have the time to ask each of the individually, I’ll ask here:
So, you were embarrassed for the past 8 years, huh?
Really?
What exactly were you embarrassed by?
Were you embarrassed by his lone and enduring twenty-five year marriage to a strong woman he’s never ceased to publicly praise, respect, or cherish?
Were you embarrassed by the way he lovingly and sweetly parented and protected his daughters?
Were you embarrassed by his Columbia University degree in Political Science or his graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School?
Maybe you were embarrassed by his white American and Black Kenyan parents, or the diversity he was raised in as normal?
Were you embarrassed by his eloquence, his quick wit, his easy humor, his seeming comfort meeting with both world leaders and street cleaners; by his bright smile or his sense of empathy or his steadiness—perhaps by his lack of personal scandals or verbal gaffes or impulsive tirades?
No. Of course you weren’t.
Honestly, I don’t believe you were ever embarrassed. That word implies an association that brings ridicule, one that makes you ashamed by association, and if that’s something you claim to have experienced over the past eight years by having Barack Obama representing you in the world—I’m going to suggest you rethink your word choice.
You weren’t “embarrassed” by Barack Obama.
You were threatened by him. You were offended by him. You were challenged by him. You were enraged by him.
But I don’t believe it had anything to do with his resume or his experience or his character or his conduct in office—because you seem fully proud right now to be associated with a three-time married, serial adulterer and confessed predator; a man whose election and business dealings and relationships are riddled with controversy and malfeasance. You’re perfectly fine being represented by a bullying, obnoxious, genitalia-grabbing, Tweet-ranting, Prime Minister-shoving charlatan who’s managed to offend all our allies in a few short months. And you’re okay with him putting on religious faith like a rented, dusty, ill-fitting tuxedo and immediately tossing it in the garbage when he’s finished with it.
None of that you’re embarrassed of? I wonder how that works.
Actually, I’m afraid I have an idea. I hope I’m wrong.
Listen, you’re perfectly within your rights to have disagreed with Barack Obama’s policies or to have taken issue with his tactics. No one’s claiming he was a flawless politician or a perfect human being. But somehow I don’t think that’s what we’re talking about here. I think the thing President Obama did that really upset you, white friend—was having a complexion that was far darker than you were ever comfortable with. I think the President we have now feels much better.
Because objectively speaking, if what’s happening in our country right now doesn’t cause you great shame and doesn’t induce the continual meeting of your palm to your face—I don’t believe embarrassment is ever something you struggle with.
No, if you claimed to be “embarrassed” by Barack Obama but you’re not embarrassed by Donald Trump—I’m going to strongly suggest it was largely a pigmentation issue.
And as an American and a Christian committed to diversity and equality and to the liberty at the heart of this nation—that, embarrasses me.

What does it say about the JA in the WH when even his Republican controlled congress is quietly working to take away national security power from the President? Clearly they have no more confidence in him than we do. They're not idiots. So I'm glad that they are doing that. The less power he has to throw a tantrum and annihilate half the world the better I will sleep at night. So when obviously they know what a lose cannon he is, how dangerous he is in office, how do they sleep at night knowing they are also enabling him to make what has always been the greatest country in the world become the laughing stock of the world, a country the world has no confidence in? When they look in the mirror each morning, do they see anyone looking back? Do you still see an image when you've sold your soul, or as Pat said did they never have a soul to begin with?

Interesting observation this morning from one of the Sunday morning talk shows about this Voter Fraud Panel JA created & who now wants to get all voter info, plus SS#'s & other info from all 50 states from the AG's. This info is supposedly going to be sent over an unsecured email server to the Voter Fraud Panel. The person offered up the question, is this a way to further help Russia interfer with the 2018 & beyond elections by making it easier for hacking!?!?!... Sounds plausible to me. Boy, I sure hope the AG from all the states refuse this request. What a sham.
The wrestling video tweet JA put out this morning targeting CNN is a clear cry for violence against the media. Now do we just sit around & wait until a media person is harmed because some Trumpettes decided to go after the media with violence. Wake up GOP & take care of the Prez you put in office & get him out of office before it's too darn late. This is griping down right dangerous. UGH

Sooner or later someone is going to be killed strictly due to this maniac and his ego. Publicly making statements like that when you are in such a position of power should be considered the same thing as deciding to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater just to see what happens. Someone is going to be hurt and very likely killed. It was wrong for Cathy Griffin and Johnny Depp to make such statements against the JA, and it is wrong when it is the JA making such statements. Actually even more wrong when it is the JA because he is demeaning the Office of the President, and embarrassing our nation as a country in front of the world. Griffin and Depp only demeaned and embarrassed themselves.

"On ABC’s “This Week,” homeland security adviser Tom Bossert dismissed the idea that the tweet might be a threat, while he praised the president for “genuine” communication." -- Washington Post

So, concerning that CNN/Wrestling video tape JA tweeted out this morning, I wonder who helped him with that? I doubt he is smart enough to upload a video & insert the CNN logo on the person he is beating up on in the video. Disgusting!
