Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

November 1 -December 31 Happy Holidays Challenge
The holidays are fast approaching and with them comes the joy and drama. While we want to be filled with gratitude, we often find ourselves filled with hurt or anger. The expectations of a perfect holiday create unrealistic expectations. As corny as it can sound, we lose sight of the "reason for the season”.
We spend time counting points, counting calories, exercising, checking the number on the scale. Then the holidays arrive! We overload our bodies with junk food and alcohol and add pills to make the headaches and stomach aches go away. Do we see the dichotomy?
Our beliefs, our life style, provide an anchor for us. It gives us a sense of being grounded, having a purpose. Holidays arrive and we try to stay anchored. Then someone decides to challenge our beliefs, lifestyle. The oh come on, one drink won’t hurt, or it’s Mom’s pie recipe …you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t try it or your political views are wrong, here is the stress you don’t want or need! Movies use family dinners with jokes of when are you getting married, when are you having children, when are you going to settle down with a real job….and it all gets resolved with smiles and everyone on neutral ground. Think “While You were Sleeping”….not “Home Alone.”
The purpose of this challenge is to stay anchored during the holidays and fill our lives with Love and Lose the things in our lives that cause stress, anger and pain. Let us go into 2025 feeling good, even great physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Though we say we are “comfortable" with the holiday scenario….crazy Uncle Freddie is going to get drunk, Aunt Wilma is going to make that awful ambrosia, another soap on a rope gift…we don’t have to accept it. This does not serve us well. This does not make us happy. This does not make us the person we want to be. Let’s walk away from their issues.
Lose the angry people. Do not get dragged into a confrontation. Say “well bless your heart” and walk away. Blow them a kiss for good measure.
Lose getting guilted to eat food. Bring something you want to eat to family dinners, enough to share but to help you stay on track and feel good about yourself.
Lose 24 hour news TV. Listening to pundits and comedians spout off, does not lift one’s spirit. Use news alerts and headlines then decide if you want more information.
Lose the people….for awhile….go out for a walk, breathe fresh air, sit and be by yourself.
Lose the stuff that just doesn’t work in your life. It takes time. Letting go of what is hurting you is more difficult than letting go of clothes that do not fit….though there might be a connection.
Lose the guilt for doing what you truly want to do. Follow your heart.
Lose the regrets…the "should of, would of, wish I could of" does not help or change things. At the time it was what needed to be.
Lose being the “go to person” for everything….no is a powerful word.
NOW Love it!
Love yourself first. Get/stay healthy, lose the weight, stop the drinking, your journey is unfolding.
Love new traditions….not everything has to be made from scratch for one. Go out to eat. Stop with the tomato aspic, no one wants it. Put a $ limit on gifts and no gift cards.
Love a potluck dinner not the big production meal.
Love sitting and watching a roaring fire while listening to music.
Love something you want to share with others.
It is good to remember your past but don’t cheat your future.
Let go of anger, let go of the need to do more. You are doing your best and that’s enough.
You are not the shape of your body or the number on the scale. You are loved for you!
You have blessings in your life and remember you are a Blessing. Just ask anyone of us.

Good morning all. GOing to get cleaned up and go to knitting. Hope it will improve my mood, and at least the sun is out today. Yesterday was just a down in the dumps depression. I came home from coffee, all the girls were worried and depressed, went back to bed, got no steps, finished the wine off last night and just tried to think of things I could do to get past this feeling of doom. I know many are happy and feel things are going to get so much better. We can just wait to see. I need to pull up the big girl pants and move forward. Getting some outside time today will help. I talked to DS last night and that helped. I will get back later with personals and hopefully a better attitude. Enjoy your day. Jan

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail yesterday morning to walk, it was overcast and pleasant. We gathered some pine straw to put in the beds to fix where armadillos have been digging. I picked a few green beans and some peas, which are just getting ripe. My project for the day was potting up the sweet potato vine cuttings that have been rooting in the kitchen window. I had to scrounge to find enough pots and saucers. Hopefully I can keep them going over the winter to plant in the whiskey barrels in the spring. After that lunch and couch time. We had spaghetti and meatballs with the partial jar of my canned sauce, yum. After dinner I watched a Christmas movie and stitched on a Denver Broncos tissue box cover for one of DH's cousin's wife. I went up to bed early, had a little trouble falling asleep but otherwise slept well.
Yet another gloomy day. We never did get rain, the sprinklers went off this morning so the garden stuff should be fine for a few days. I have aerobics this morning and my GLP-1 consult at noon. Today would have been my mom's 99th birthday.
Vicki- You have been busy with the women's event, bells, time with friends, women's ministry, line dance, choir! Hope you can find time to catch up on your sleep.
Cindy- Your weather sounds nice. WTG drinking plenty of water, glad your B/P is up a bit.
Cathy- Glad you had fun with Rosalie and were able to talk to your daughter, sorry the pants you tried on didn't work. I continue to enjoy your FB posts.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. So sorry you didn't sleep well.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year!
Good morning! I did start a post yesterday, but never finished; I had to go to DD's to watch the grands. I started but time got away from me and forgot to finish it and post. Yesterday was an ANIM (3 vodkas on the rocks after I got home from DD's) day; I did eat healthy food but went over my calorie allowance; I even measured the vodka. Anyway, moving on from that since I am still focused on wanting to lose weight. I am shooting for as close to the 200 mark by the end of this year. Even if it is not doable, there is no reason why I cannot try for it and get as close to it as I can. Our weather has been beautiful; yesterday's temp was close to 80! The rest of the week is babysitting for a few hours each day and Luna will be sleeping over Saturday because the kids have a wedding to attend. The kids will be sleeping over their other grandmother's house.
Murphy~ Sorry you didn't sleep well last night, at least you know that you can catch up on some Zsss today.
Amy~ I think I need to start watching more Christmas movies! Happy Heavenly to your mother.
Jan~ I feel your pain. One positive we know is that there will be no riots and no one will not get hurt from it because isn't it amazing that it was "free and fair" and NOT "rigged". That' all I am going to say about it. Glad talking to DS made you feel a little better.
Cathy~ Yay for shopping with Rosalie, and just enjoying each other. You probably have a better selection of pants in your closet, lol!
Cindy~ Glad your BP is coming up a bit. Is the dizziness subsiding?
Vicki~ I too got tired just reading your full schedule! Glad you enjoyed the women's ministry.
Hi Carole!

Hi girls. It’s a brand new day! Yesterday DH gave me a B12 shot. Between that and my nap, I felt better when I went to choir and really enjoyed it. I did skip the Y today and slept until 8:30. I went for a walk and got some things done around here. Tonight is the murder mystery which is always fun! Kind of scary though, the play is on the 16th and we are definitely not ready! I’m sure it will all work out!
Murphy: It looks like you are keeping up with your activity! How close does DB live to you?
Amy: People SHOULD be noticing your success! If they aren’t, they must be blind! I recorded some Christmas movies so I wouldn’t have to watch the commercials!
Jan: I’m glad you got to talk to DS last night. That always helps. Hope you enjoyed the time with your ladies today. I’m not talking politics with anybody. Too many different opinions and I want things to go back to normal.
Liz: I’m glad you get to spend so much time with the grands. They sure are fun!
Cindy: Glad you are feeling some better. Are you checking the BP often?
Cathy: I’m so glad you have Rosalie to chum around with!

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Hi all. Feeling a bit better, enjoyed being out with friends today. We went to Olive Garden, Peggy's choice as it was her birthday. Of course there were treats at knitting also. If I could just pass up the bread stick when I have my soup and salad . Tonight will be chicken fajitas so a bit lower points. When I got home, DH decided we should just take the van to storage as he had cleaned it up and wanted to get working on some leaves in the driveway and backyard. So Bertie is all tucked away for the winter, I will use some of my days this winter deciding on some trips we should take next spring and summer . We are still up in the mid 60's and it helps to see the sun and be able to spend some time outside. No other plans except tomorrow some grocery shopping. I was going to go check out our new Michaels after lunch today as it's right near where the restaurant was. No easy places to park, so figured I'd wait until the "excitment" wears off a bit, or maybe next time sis is here. Hope you have all had a nice day. Jan Murphy Hope you got to take a nap if you wanted one. Have you thought anymore about a dog or cat friend? I just saw an e mail from our humane society that they have over 150 cats and kittens. Makes me sad. Amy. Hope aerobics was fun this morning. Our spaghetti tasted good last night too. Comfort food. I've decided I need to focus on good things I can do. I can cook healthy foods, plant more of a garden in the spring, plan vacations, spend time at the cabin next summer, read more books, not focus on the news and the insanity. I nearly choked this morning when they said Margorie T. Green's name came up for the director of homeland security. Oh boy! Hope the GLP consult went well and you can start on the cheaper meds. Liz. We can do what we can do. I'd like to lose 10# by the end of the year and know it won't happen if I keep drinking wine. I know today and the rest of the weekend is going to be AF, then I just have to do one day at a time. DS had said your weather was crazy warm the other day but supposed to be cooling down this weekend. I am glad there will just be a "normal" transition and no violence hopefully. You know that wouldn't have been the case the other way, and for sure it would have all been rigged. Maybe after this we can move on from all that negative talk. have fun with the Luna sleepover Cathy. Glad you had a nice day with Rosalie even if you didn't find any new pants. How was you DD feeling about the election, did you say she's in Missouri? Cindy. Glad you are getting your water in and having some pleasant weather. I still have @ 3 coffees in the morning but have cut out most sodas. Now and then a diet rootbeer or squirt. GG You are one busy girl. When do you perform your play?

Talked to my sister this morning for the first time in a LONG time. It was nice to see her face on the phone and hear her voice while sitting on the back patio with Bella purring on my lap.
Yesterday we searched for glass bottle caps without success.
Today Mounah is receiving a fresh propane jar to have on reserve and he brought in fijaylee - wile mustard greens - that we will make for lunch. Usually we chop, boil a bit, add lemon-garlic-olive oil, and eat with bread.
As for the elections ~ The people have spoken and I wait to see what will happen. My daughter and I did vote in Missouri. In spite of it being pretty much a total Republican sweep ~ enough voted for the amendment that will insure women's health rights ~ we feel good about that.
No personals today. I am going to start the laundry in a little while and get on with my day.
