Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

November 1 -December 31 Happy Holidays Challenge
The holidays are fast approaching and with them comes the joy and drama. While we want to be filled with gratitude, we often find ourselves filled with hurt or anger. The expectations of a perfect holiday create unrealistic expectations. As corny as it can sound, we lose sight of the "reason for the season”.
We spend time counting points, counting calories, exercising, checking the number on the scale. Then the holidays arrive! We overload our bodies with junk food and alcohol and add pills to make the headaches and stomach aches go away. Do we see the dichotomy?
Our beliefs, our life style, provide an anchor for us. It gives us a sense of being grounded, having a purpose. Holidays arrive and we try to stay anchored. Then someone decides to challenge our beliefs, lifestyle. The oh come on, one drink won’t hurt, or it’s Mom’s pie recipe …you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t try it or your political views are wrong, here is the stress you don’t want or need! Movies use family dinners with jokes of when are you getting married, when are you having children, when are you going to settle down with a real job….and it all gets resolved with smiles and everyone on neutral ground. Think “While You were Sleeping”….not “Home Alone.”
The purpose of this challenge is to stay anchored during the holidays and fill our lives with Love and Lose the things in our lives that cause stress, anger and pain. Let us go into 2025 feeling good, even great physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Though we say we are “comfortable" with the holiday scenario….crazy Uncle Freddie is going to get drunk, Aunt Wilma is going to make that awful ambrosia, another soap on a rope gift…we don’t have to accept it. This does not serve us well. This does not make us happy. This does not make us the person we want to be. Let’s walk away from their issues.
Lose the angry people. Do not get dragged into a confrontation. Say “well bless your heart” and walk away. Blow them a kiss for good measure.
Lose getting guilted to eat food. Bring something you want to eat to family dinners, enough to share but to help you stay on track and feel good about yourself.
Lose 24 hour news TV. Listening to pundits and comedians spout off, does not lift one’s spirit. Use news alerts and headlines then decide if you want more information.
Lose the people….for awhile….go out for a walk, breathe fresh air, sit and be by yourself.
Lose the stuff that just doesn’t work in your life. It takes time. Letting go of what is hurting you is more difficult than letting go of clothes that do not fit….though there might be a connection.
Lose the guilt for doing what you truly want to do. Follow your heart.
Lose the regrets…the "should of, would of, wish I could of" does not help or change things. At the time it was what needed to be.
Lose being the “go to person” for everything….no is a powerful word.
NOW Love it!
Love yourself first. Get/stay healthy, lose the weight, stop the drinking, your journey is unfolding.
Love new traditions….not everything has to be made from scratch for one. Go out to eat. Stop with the tomato aspic, no one wants it. Put a $ limit on gifts and no gift cards.
Love a potluck dinner not the big production meal.
Love sitting and watching a roaring fire while listening to music.
Love something you want to share with others.
It is good to remember your past but don’t cheat your future.
Let go of anger, let go of the need to do more. You are doing your best and that’s enough.
You are not the shape of your body or the number on the scale. You are loved for you!
You have blessings in your life and remember you are a Blessing. Just ask anyone of us.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Good morning all. There is some sun this morning and we will get moving here shortly to take our little day trip, unless DH has other ideas. Not sure why I let my fairy dust blow away last night, gray rainy day? boredom, resigned not to go on a trip at this point? but I gave in, tracked it all and am always mad to see those wasted points and calories on my stats. Keep on moving on. My arm has been hurting a bit and not sure if it's knitting related or just computer typing etc. Wanted to rest it yesterday and probably today, no knitting and less scrolling. At least I decided we won't be traveling this month, I did ask DS if they had any time where they could maybe come to Chicago for 3 days or so, we could airbnb in the city, see the decorations, go to the Christkindlmarket, and just hang out. Haven't heard back but thinking maybe DH or sis could go anyway. I am in need of some holiday spirit . Focus on getting some steps today, get my calories back under control, probably messed up my WI tomorrow, but will still go. My app for WW hasn't updated yet but I hear there is a group that has gotten the new rollout that will now include Macros etc. Maybe the rest of us will get it after the new year. HOpe you all have a nice day. Happy Veteran's day, Jan Cindy. Hope you got your bed nest all made up for a good night's sleep yesterday. How is DS doing? Cathy GL with your reading and testing all those yummy recipes Glad you could talk to the GKs Liz. Did Luna ever go home? Yay for the kids getting to spend some grown up time together. Amy. Have fun at exercise this morning if you are going. Is you knee doing any better? Hope the golf cart is fine and the battery recharged. Waving hi. Will check back later today.

DH helped me bring in the Halloween porch decorations which I put away in totes. The leg was feeling pretty good so I did a walking video without any problem. I'm able to bend the knee without pain, but still have trouble going up the stairs, but going down is better. The afternoon was spent watching TV and icing the knee. We had pork chops for dinner with baked potatoes and cheesy cauliflower. After dinner I started on a Santa that fits on a soda bottle. It's one I've made before, but sold in one of my sales. It's part of a series of which I only have 2 left, so I think I'll make one of each for me and one for inventory. I stayed up too late finishing a book, but slept well.
It's gloomy again today, sheesh. We did get a little rain yesterday, but not much. We're going for our flu and Covid shots today.
Liz- WTG for an AF/OP day. Yay for snuggling with Luna, sorry about the dog hair. I don't have too much trouble getting cat hair in my stitching, but sometimes I pull out a strand of my own. Yay for a pretty day, hope everyone that needs rain gets it soon. I'm still not sure how I injured myself, but neither class includes anything that I'm not used to doing.
Cindy- It is an all day job to wash bedding.
Cathy- Glad you were able to talk to your son and granddaughters. Happy birthday to Hazel. GL with your books to read and reviews to write.

Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, tracking. Have a great day trip. Going to the Chriskindlmarket in Chicago sounds like a great idea, hopefully DS & GF can work it in. Yay for upcoming macros in WW app. The golf cart seems to be holding the charge okay. DH thinks maybe he didn't read the gauge correctly when we left on Saturday morning. No exercise class today, I'll probably try yoga tomorrow and see how it goes.

Hi girls! Happy Monday and Veterans Day. I got Rylee on Friday and we had a good time. It just wasn’t long enough! She didn’t even get to play outside! We left at 10 on Saturday and visited Jane the library cat, and went to 2 craft shows. I bought 3 little cloth Christmas trees that can hang. The way it’s made, you can put in scratch off tickets, or candy. I bought one for myself and for DD and DDIL. I like to get something small for each adult kid, then we’ll be giving them money. With 2 kids in travel sports, and DD redoing the new house, that’s what they need! I finally caved into Rylee and let her get some sparkly things in her hair. I thought they would be clipped in. The girl actually threaded in the strands with her hair into this bead thing. I really didn’t get to talk to DD about it. We met and went to Addi’s soccer game. It was a quick full day. We got much needed rain yesterday. I may go shopping in a bit. I really need some new tops. Penney’s doesn’t open until 11 and I never can stop when I go to the Y. I may just stop at the Y and walk, and then check out Penney’s. Or just stay home and walk our road. Not sure yet! Truthfully, I could take a nap! I have absolutely nothing today that needs to be done. The big news is that I still have 28 weeklies left! Wow, how did that happen? By not going anywhere that had sweets!

Hi all. We decided not to go today, wasn't going to hit 50 degrees and there is a lot of wind, with gusts to 25 miles. Just not pleasant walking about weather. We may try to go Friday as it's going to be warmer and calm. I went out to the outlet mall, looking for some pants DH wants for Christmas. Didn't find anything at north face so went to Dick's sporting. Ended up getting something similar to what he had, will see if he likes them when the time comes. I pulled out 3 different pairs of the same pants from the rack, each had a different price tag amount, I took the cheapest, but then it rang up the $5 higher. I had the clerk check the tag and they gave me the lower price. So, bought my first present . Then I went to the grocery to drop a box at their mail counter as the PO is closed. Well, they were doing a special for Veteran's Day, 12 different things they could get for free with a $20 purchase. The store was mayhem! But I got a few things I needed and came home. Just been sitting here finishing a book, did a little work on the puzzle upstairs, trying to keep from grazing, just want to munch. Took out some pork chops to make for dinner, eat up some of my roasted veggies with them. No other news, just going to stay out of the kitchen and maybe do some stitching. Have a good one all. Jan GG Sounds like a nice weekend and fun time with Rylee. Yay for having weeklies left, I can't say the same. Did you get to go by Penney's and find any tops? I'm trying to get rid of a lot of t shirts that are looking bad, then I just keep saving them thinking I can wear them under my sweatshirts all winter. Amy Love the cardinal craft. Glad your leg was feeling better and hope it will be fine for yoga tomorrow. Hope the shots went well. My arm wasn't really sore until the next day. When is your next sale? Waving hi.

Start November 1: 169.4 November 8: 168.2 November 15: November 22: November 29: December 6: December 13: December 20: December 27: Final Weigh In December 31! November 12 weight: <165.2>
I told myself that if I did NOT lose weight and maintained for a fourth morning on the scale then I would have an egg and toss the vegan week away...and had lost over two pounds so had hot cereal for breakfast instead of an egg. Onward and downward I go with a goal in mind and will see it eventually!
Yesterday was a rainy stay at home sort of day. Not sure what today holds in store for us but have leftover pumpkin and pumpkin soup to make into something plus spinach, zucchini, and cucumbers plus a few other things to create meals with...we will have a healthy nourishing meal later for sure!
Not sure if Rosalie and I will get together tomorrow not. Need to see what she says. Someone in the village died that we met when we moved here so will probably attend his funeral...not sure when it is though. If it is tomorrow will wait to see Rosalie, probably. The deceased's son is our dentist and his other son gave us cuttings for most of the roses in our garden and his wife was a friend that took me out to harvest wild greens and took me on a women's group excursion for lunch and to visit a religious site SO...we will attend this funeral and pay condolences.
I'm listening to slow/love songs from the 40s, 50s & 60s
AMY: I had pain in my right arm last night and my elbow. I think it could be reading and having to hold the phone or perhaps typing. When I used to knit a lot I had repetitive motion friction redness on my forearms that would be hot to the touch but not painful. Never had it when younger but things change as we get older, I guess
Hope everyone had a good day, sleeps well, and rises refreshed in the morning.
