Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

November 1 -December 31 Happy Holidays Challenge
The holidays are fast approaching and with them comes the joy and drama. While we want to be filled with gratitude, we often find ourselves filled with hurt or anger. The expectations of a perfect holiday create unrealistic expectations. As corny as it can sound, we lose sight of the "reason for the season”.
We spend time counting points, counting calories, exercising, checking the number on the scale. Then the holidays arrive! We overload our bodies with junk food and alcohol and add pills to make the headaches and stomach aches go away. Do we see the dichotomy?
Our beliefs, our life style, provide an anchor for us. It gives us a sense of being grounded, having a purpose. Holidays arrive and we try to stay anchored. Then someone decides to challenge our beliefs, lifestyle. The oh come on, one drink won’t hurt, or it’s Mom’s pie recipe …you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t try it or your political views are wrong, here is the stress you don’t want or need! Movies use family dinners with jokes of when are you getting married, when are you having children, when are you going to settle down with a real job….and it all gets resolved with smiles and everyone on neutral ground. Think “While You were Sleeping”….not “Home Alone.”
The purpose of this challenge is to stay anchored during the holidays and fill our lives with Love and Lose the things in our lives that cause stress, anger and pain. Let us go into 2025 feeling good, even great physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Though we say we are “comfortable" with the holiday scenario….crazy Uncle Freddie is going to get drunk, Aunt Wilma is going to make that awful ambrosia, another soap on a rope gift…we don’t have to accept it. This does not serve us well. This does not make us happy. This does not make us the person we want to be. Let’s walk away from their issues.
Lose the angry people. Do not get dragged into a confrontation. Say “well bless your heart” and walk away. Blow them a kiss for good measure.
Lose getting guilted to eat food. Bring something you want to eat to family dinners, enough to share but to help you stay on track and feel good about yourself.
Lose 24 hour news TV. Listening to pundits and comedians spout off, does not lift one’s spirit. Use news alerts and headlines then decide if you want more information.
Lose the people….for awhile….go out for a walk, breathe fresh air, sit and be by yourself.
Lose the stuff that just doesn’t work in your life. It takes time. Letting go of what is hurting you is more difficult than letting go of clothes that do not fit….though there might be a connection.
Lose the guilt for doing what you truly want to do. Follow your heart.
Lose the regrets…the "should of, would of, wish I could of" does not help or change things. At the time it was what needed to be.
Lose being the “go to person” for everything….no is a powerful word.
NOW Love it!
Love yourself first. Get/stay healthy, lose the weight, stop the drinking, your journey is unfolding.
Love new traditions….not everything has to be made from scratch for one. Go out to eat. Stop with the tomato aspic, no one wants it. Put a $ limit on gifts and no gift cards.
Love a potluck dinner not the big production meal.
Love sitting and watching a roaring fire while listening to music.
Love something you want to share with others.
It is good to remember your past but don’t cheat your future.
Let go of anger, let go of the need to do more. You are doing your best and that’s enough.
You are not the shape of your body or the number on the scale. You are loved for you!
You have blessings in your life and remember you are a Blessing. Just ask anyone of us.

We ended up making box Jambalaya for dinner last night and added in the chicken, turkey smoked sausage and some veggies to Dr it up. She enjoyed it, didn’t think she’d ever had it before. Now to figure out today's dinner . But first we'll see what shenanigans we can get up to. I will check in later. DH is waiting on a plumber to show up, the water in the one shower is only on way hot, it must have gotten turned past the safety catch or whatever and not mixing in any cold. Always something. Jan

Yoga was good yesterday. I was able to do most of it, as long as I didn't have to externally rotate the left leg. I had a chat with the instructor and another girl in the class who is having similar symptoms to me. DH met me afterwards to walk around the amenity grounds. When I got home I puttered with a few projects until it was time to take DD for her PCP appointment. She said it was all good and got her flu shot there. We stopped at a Walgreens on the way home to get her passport picture. We've already filled out the application, just need to make an appointment for the interview. I want to get the process underway before Trump takes office, just in case the State department goes to hell, LOL. When we got back I had a bit of couch time then did a Turbo Jam video to get the rest of my steps for the day. I made patty melts with frozen Smashburgers I found at Ingles. They are delish, and only around 200 calories. After dinner I worked on the Santa while watching a Christmas movie. I was able to fall asleep without any problem and slept well.
The sun is out again this morning, it's in the 50's. It's supposed to cloud over this afternoon ahead of the rain moving in tonight. It's supposed to be a pretty sure thing that we will finally get some rain. DH says he feels fine after his immunizations and I seem back to normal too.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, tracking, going to WW meeting, doing the WI. Thanks for the link to the macros recommendations. I'm close on the fat and fiber, surprised the protein was only 54 grams, calories 2068. If I subtract 500 from that, it would give me an extra 200 calories per day, which I would love. I'll see what the nutritionist has to say next week. Yay for Sis coming to visit, have fun! DH and I have been talking about making the box jambalaya. I stopped making banana bread in loaves and making muffins instead since they only take 20 minutes to bake and I don't have to worry about them getting done in the middle. I do have some mini loaf pans though. My yoga instructor calls sitting Indian style "criss cross applesauce", makes me giggle every time. I had to keep my left leg straight, but am pleased at how much easier it is for me to get off the floor now.
Liz- Yay for a wonderful day with the grands, seeing Santa, making a Bluey Build-a-Bear, going to the fabulous GF restaurant. My brother has had Australian shepherd dogs, which I think are similar to what Bluey is supposed to be.
Cindy- You sound great! Sorry you had to dig out the backflow device, yay for wearing your camo pants and being able to do it. Sorry about the package theft, it does sound like a setup situation. So sorry about DS's leg/knee situation. Glad the yard looks better after mowing/trimming/weeding. The cardinal gift sounds really nice. I still have Halloween stuff up in the house, maybe today will be the day to do something about it.
Vicki- Glad the play is coming along. WTG for 10,000 steps.
Cathy- Have fun playing cards at Rosalie's and with the block hand lettering class.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Hello, hello, hello! Yesterday was and AIM/OP day and even got on my recumbent, if only for 10 minutes but I'll take it. I treated myself to a set of Bose earbuds so I can listen to my music while on the bike or knitting. I have had earbuds in the past but could never get a good fit and they never stayed in my ears. These are an outer clip on which do not go into the actual ear canal. The sound is incredible and I figured they were a black Friday deal on QVC, free shipping and on 5 easy pays, and I am definitely worth it, lol! Got a lot of knitting done and planning on more today since I am not going anywhere, 6 more to go after I finish this skein. I took DH to his PCP late in the afternoon because he had been fighting a cold for about a week now and before it turned into bronchitis which happens often because of the laryngectomy. This way they prescribed an antibiotic which will help clear him out. When we got home, I made Hellman's parmesan crusted chicken breasts for dinner and we had LO zucchini for a side.
Amy~ Thanks for getting us started. Glad DD's PCP appointment went well. I don't really travel, just curious why is it necessary for an interview to obtain a passport. Is there some new law that requires it? Yay for you and DH feeling better from the shots!
Jan~ Jan glad Sis got there and you were able to go to Michael's and snoop. Have you looked on Amazon for the loaf pans. DS bought a baking pan which consists of 21 mini loaves on Amazon last year or the year before and he made mini cornbread loaves. They would be perfect for freezing and taking one out at a time. If you didn't want to make 21 you wouldn't have to or they may even have a pan that makes fewer. Have fun today with Sis and your friends!
Vicki~ Woohoo for hitting 10,000 steps and 34 weeklies left! Good luck on the scale today! Sounds like you are really enjoying the play. One of our malls is having a Bluey camp, and DD bought tickets for her and Isabel. I guess you go to the store in the mall (I'm sure loaded with Bluey stuff to buy) then you go through a "magic door" and enter Bluey's house for 51 minutes of play and you get to meet Bluey and take a picture with her. It is a surprise and they are going next Monday, I can't wait to hear all about how Isabel reacts!
Cindy~ Wow, what ever you had, glad it is going/gone! So I am thinking that even though you thought your friendship was a done deal, I think she thought about it and realized that because she was wrapped up in her grief that she wasn't thinking clearly about your friendship. The cardinal stained glass sun catcher sounds beautiful and a really thoughtful gift. I hope DS' knee feels better by Monday so he won't have to go to the orthopedist. That's really awful about the post office. Since there were so many reports on the same day in your neighborhood, they should really investigate that driver; he may really be in cahoots with someone driving behind and picking up the packages and maybe split the profits. BTW, Ritz crackers with cream cheese is my addiction when I am on a binge!
Cathy~ Hope you have fun playing cards at Rosalie's house today! UGH about the scale!
Waving hi Murphy and Carole!
Need to make some lunch then off to knitting! Have a great rest of the day!

Hi friends! Before I forget, Amy-that’s what we said to the preschoolers, sit down, cross cross applesauce! I forgot about that! Not a great eating day. I just didn’t feel like making dinner. So we got Culver’s, skipped the fries but not the custard. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️we did a different core exercise at the gym and is it sore! I have to go back and read yesterday’s posts. Have a great night!
Jan, I hope you had fun with your sis and friends!
Liz, that sounds like SO much fun for Isabel! Bowie, Alexis’s dog, is a cattle dog. He’s such a lover duck (my mom’s term!)
Cindy, I hope you’re feeling better.
Time for bed. Good night, sleep tight!

Hi All!
For some reason having slept so much last month, seems I can't fall asleep easily now...drift off, wake up but whatever. Still functioning.
Made the call to the Backflow technician. A state agency has taken over the supervision of the program so it will be more $$ and he would get back to me. I told him the $$ were fine with me. He showed up about 15 minutes later, I missed the text and by the time I saw the text, he had come and gone. The system is fine but the serial number was rusted off. I had last year's report and sent it to him. Next text from him....the agency wants different forms so he is going to track them down tomorrow and get back to me. I hope he does in the morning because I'll be out for the afternoon.
Yesterday my nephew's wife posted up that my great niece was admitted to the hospital with back pain and a fever. Of course her mother has to post about it on FB and people chimed in with their diagnoses. It varied from kidney stones to bladder infection. My niece is 23. After awhile her mother posted the doctor thinks she has a kidney infection. I'm thinking ummm....do you think your daughter wants you posting this?? So she is being kept overnight, getting IV antibiotics. Today the doctor ordered a renal ultrasound and wants her stay in the hospital for another 24 hours. Her Mom is posting all of this on FB. Ummm, you know your daughter is going to "hate you" when she finds out and she will. When she graduated from college she moved out of the house and in with a girlfriend and didn't tell her parents till after it was all done. Probably HIPPA doesn't apply but then again.
So DS and his boss were working on stuff today and got into Apple Intelligence. They tried to explain it all to me but I was totally lost. They were very kind but I doubt I will ever get the hang of it and not sure I want to learn.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. Glad DD's appointment went well. Hope all goes well with getting the passport. I know DS needs to renew his. The fresh smashburgers sound delicious! I hope the rain comes in and soaks all your plants. We are getting down into the high forties at night but back into the seventies during the day. My Halloween stuff is still up....hopefully Thanksgiving stuff gets done this weekend!
Jan, hope you are having a wonderful time with your sister. My three mini loaf pans belonged to my Mom. I think a lot of people buy the disposable kind so they can give breads away in a pan. Hope the plumber showed up and it was an easy fix. Glad dinner worked out last night. What adventures did you and your sister get up to?
Liz, yay for getting on the recumbent bike! I need to get back to doing something intentional for exercise. Glad you treated yourself to the BOSE earbuds. The things that make life more enjoyable. Hope DH feels better! I've seen photos of Bluey but had no idea how big Bluey is. The photos of the grandkids with Santa are wonderful! They are both so cute! I think you are right about my friend, will see how it goes tomorrow. Now I've got to get some cream cheese to try with my Ritz crackers. I guess it isn't a bad addiction, lol.
Carole, hope the soreness eases but think of the good results making it worth it! Sleep well!
Cathy, hope you had a wonderful time with Rosalie. The scale is just fickled. I have gone back to weighing daily and up, down, down, up, up.
Vicki, your play sounds like so much fun! When will the performance be? Yay for 10K steps. I haven't seen that for a long time!
Hi Murphy. Hope you can check in soon.
Thinking bed is calling me! Wishing everyone a good night!
Hugs, Cindy
