Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. November 1 -December 31 Happy Holidays Challenge
The holidays are fast approaching and with them comes the joy and drama. While we want to be filled with gratitude, we often find ourselves filled with hurt or anger. The expectations of a perfect holiday create unrealistic expectations. As corny as it can sound, we lose sight of the "reason for the season”.
We spend time counting points, counting calories, exercising, checking the number on the scale. Then the holidays arrive! We overload our bodies with junk food and alcohol and add pills to make the headaches and stomach aches go away. Do we see the dichotomy?
Our beliefs, our life style, provide an anchor for us. It gives us a sense of being grounded, having a purpose. Holidays arrive and we try to stay anchored. Then someone decides to challenge our beliefs, lifestyle. The oh come on, one drink won’t hurt, or it’s Mom’s pie recipe …you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t try it or your political views are wrong, here is the stress you don’t want or need! Movies use family dinners with jokes of when are you getting married, when are you having children, when are you going to settle down with a real job….and it all gets resolved with smiles and everyone on neutral ground. Think “While You were Sleeping”….not “Home Alone.”
The purpose of this challenge is to stay anchored during the holidays and fill our lives with Love and Lose the things in our lives that cause stress, anger and pain. Let us go into 2025 feeling good, even great physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Though we say we are “comfortable" with the holiday scenario….crazy Uncle Freddie is going to get drunk, Aunt Wilma is going to make that awful ambrosia, another soap on a rope gift…we don’t have to accept it. This does not serve us well. This does not make us happy. This does not make us the person we want to be. Let’s walk away from their issues.
Lose the angry people. Do not get dragged into a confrontation. Say “well bless your heart” and walk away. Blow them a kiss for good measure.
Lose getting guilted to eat food. Bring something you want to eat to family dinners, enough to share but to help you stay on track and feel good about yourself.
Lose 24 hour news TV. Listening to pundits and comedians spout off, does not lift one’s spirit. Use news alerts and headlines then decide if you want more information.
Lose the people….for awhile….go out for a walk, breathe fresh air, sit and be by yourself.
Lose the stuff that just doesn’t work in your life. It takes time. Letting go of what is hurting you is more difficult than letting go of clothes that do not fit….though there might be a connection.
Lose the guilt for doing what you truly want to do. Follow your heart.
Lose the regrets…the "should of, would of, wish I could of" does not help or change things. At the time it was what needed to be.
Lose being the “go to person” for everything….no is a powerful word.
NOW Love it!
Love yourself first. Get/stay healthy, lose the weight, stop the drinking, your journey is unfolding.
Love new traditions….not everything has to be made from scratch for one. Go out to eat. Stop with the tomato aspic, no one wants it. Put a $ limit on gifts and no gift cards.
Love a potluck dinner not the big production meal.
Love sitting and watching a roaring fire while listening to music.
Love something you want to share with others.
It is good to remember your past but don’t cheat your future.
Let go of anger, let go of the need to do more. You are doing your best and that’s enough.
You are not the shape of your body or the number on the scale. You are loved for you!
You have blessings in your life and remember you are a Blessing. Just ask anyone of us.

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning. The weather was crisp, lots of leaves on the path. We gathered some pine straw which I spread in the beds when I got home. I picked some green beans, peas, peppers, cucumbers and watered what needed watering. When I was dragging the hose across the porch I knocked over a clay pot and broke it so I needed to repot what was in there. After lunch I had some couch time. We had frozen fish sticks for dinner I made a cucumber salad with yogurt. After dinner I watched a Christmas movie and stitched on the Santa. I went to bed a little earlier than usual and slept well other than the rain in the downspouts made a lot of noise.
It started raining about 9pm last night and is still raining lightly, we needed a good soaker, for sure. I'll be heading to aerobics in a bit.
Liz- WTG OP/AIM day, doing the bike, treating yourself to the ear buds, getting lots of knitting done. Hope the antibiotic clear DH up. You just have to do an interview for the initial passport application, I did mine at the post office. They take your original birth certificate and you don't get it back for weeks.
Carole- Yay for Culver's for dinner. Sorry your core is sore.
Cindy- Sorry you had trouble falling asleep. Hope it all gets sorted out with the backflow technician. My daughter would be appalled if I shared that stuff online and it seems like a HIPAA violation to me. I don't understand the AI stuff either, or bitcoin, and not sure that I want to either.
Cathy- Glad you had fun with Rosalie.

M-W Word of the Day
raddled adjective | RAD-uld What It Means Someone described as raddled is in a confused or befuddled state (as from drinking). Raddled can also describe things that are broken-down or worn. // We were met at the door by a raddled old man who turned out to be the actor’s father, and who in his day had also been an estimable presence on the London stage. // Louisa was delighted to discover a raddled old radio in her grandparents’ attic, even though it didn’t work.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Good morning all. Well that was my day of overindulgence for sure. Lots of eating, driving and shopping . BOT today. Sis and I went to coffee and enjoyed talking with friends. Then we headed to Fond Du Lake for a giant Christmas store there that I drive past all the time on the highway, but have never stopped. It was really fun, 2 stories in an older kind of house, The Kristmas Kringle Shoppe. I bought some ornaments, look like the old fashioned bulbs we had as kids, vintage like. Do I need them? ha ha. Just got some small ones but would love to fill up trees of them :0. They had bubble lights, all kinds of decorations, just good for lifting the spirits. Then we headed to a yarn store there I'd never been too, maybe because it's only open Thurs-Sun. So we didn't get to see that. Decided to head up to Appleton to have lunch and go to their yarn store. We decided on lunch at Cheddars. Never been there and it was nicer than I thought. their special thing is they bring you 2 little croissants with honey butter as a complimentary starter. Yikes, those were a point overload and so yummy, warm from the kitchen. I ordered a big salad, one good choice, didn't eat the candied pecans shared with sis and she shared her fish and chips. From there I spent way to much money on yarn I don't really need, but the shopping therapy felt good. Wasn't hungry by dinner so DH just made his nachos, which then I had to sample a few, with popcorn we bought while out, and finished the wine. Now to see what trouble they bring to knitting today!! Finn was up @4:15 this morning and I stalled him til almost 5, but then I got up with him so DH could sleep. I'll be dragging this afternoon but sis will leave after lunch, it's gray and damp so a nap will be just the ticket I think. Hoping I can convince DH to just work on LO for dinner, I will finish up all my roasted veggies and pulled chicken so at least I can do a OP dinner. I looked online at Joannes and they have a loaf pan that makes 4 5x3 1/2 or so size, which is what I want, but wanted the aluminum give away ones like Cindy mentioned. At least this afternoon I can get some of my bananas used up. That's my big adventures from yesterday and now looking forward to a quiet weekend ahead, except for Duck football against Wisconsin. Have a great day all. We are heading out soon. Jan Amy. Sounds like you had a good day, can't believe how much is still coming from the garden. Sorry about the broken pot. I bought potting soil the other day to pot a few things I rooted from outside. If I can get them in a pot then I think I can still cut some more off the plant to root some more as we haven't had a hard freeze yet. Sis and I watched a Hallmark yesterday about a gingerbread building contest, was cute. I'll be curious to know what the nutritionist says about the macros. Yep, it was always criss cross applesauce at school and assemblies. Glad you are getting a good rain. Cindy. Sounding better and so glad for that. Hope you get the water backflow thing figured out. I'm not ready to face a new learning curve about the APple AI, and my phone and computer are too old to support it at this point anyway. Glad your friend figured out the value of the friendship and your cardinal gift sounds lovely. They had whole Christmas tress devoted to all cardinal ornaments and decorations at the store yesterday. I don't even like to post DS good news unless I check with him first about putting it on FB. Cathy. Glad you got together with Rosalie. The crazy scale will fix itself soon enough. Liz. Love the GK pics with Santa. Yay for getting on the bike, every baby step helps. Hope DH is feeling better and the meds keep him from getting sick. GG. Sounds like you will be ready for the play and it will be fun. You'll be off to Broadway next! time to run, will check in later.

Hi All!
Didn't sleep well last night and really wanted to stay home but went to meet my friend. All went well though I could see that our friendship has taken a hit, not sure she did. She did love the sun catcher and the candy in the dish that looks like a bag. I asked her if I could save her gift for Christmas. She didn't seem to mind. It was a shorter lunch than we normally have and pretty much surface conversation. She mentioned how much money she will be getting several times and I just said how happy I was for her though I'm sure she would rather have her DH. I was tired and I finally said I need to go home and take a nap. Other than saying we will see each other soon, no plans were made.
The backflow paperwork has been filed...an easy $25 for the agency, $75 for the inspection. All new forms were needed and I was glad that the technician I hired was able to track it all down and get it done. Now to get the "the rock" to cover the spot and stay in place. Don't want to dig out dirt again!
Amy, I hope it wasn't one of your favorite pots. I can't remember the last time I had frozen fish sticks. Now I need to buy some, if I ever get to the store. Did the rain last all day?
Jan, glad you had a wonderful time with your sister. Haven't been to Cheddars in years. Shopping therapy is always good!
Cathy, how was your day?
Hi Liz, Vicki, Carole and Murphy.
Heading to bed to read for awhile or play sudoko. Plan to get house stuff done tomorrow though I know I should do some grocery shopping....we shall see.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Another over-point off-program day...and today I want...pasta or pizza or something like that instead of the more usual beans and rice! Oh well...today is a new day and then...there is always tomorrow, too
Yesterday we went to pay condolences and spent a few minutes there then left. I know hardly anybody in the village! This morning I had a message from Inna, a Russian friend, who asked if we had or she could have cuttings from our feijoa/pineapple guava trees and I told her sure...so she is coming around 12:30 to 1:00 and will go home to see if she can grow some. They have not worked for us but should for her with her talent at growing everything!
No idea what lunch will be but am leaning hard toward pasta even without cheese!
