Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. November 1 -December 31 Happy Holidays Challenge
The holidays are fast approaching and with them comes the joy and drama. While we want to be filled with gratitude, we often find ourselves filled with hurt or anger. The expectations of a perfect holiday create unrealistic expectations. As corny as it can sound, we lose sight of the "reason for the season”.
We spend time counting points, counting calories, exercising, checking the number on the scale. Then the holidays arrive! We overload our bodies with junk food and alcohol and add pills to make the headaches and stomach aches go away. Do we see the dichotomy?
Our beliefs, our life style, provide an anchor for us. It gives us a sense of being grounded, having a purpose. Holidays arrive and we try to stay anchored. Then someone decides to challenge our beliefs, lifestyle. The oh come on, one drink won’t hurt, or it’s Mom’s pie recipe …you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t try it or your political views are wrong, here is the stress you don’t want or need! Movies use family dinners with jokes of when are you getting married, when are you having children, when are you going to settle down with a real job….and it all gets resolved with smiles and everyone on neutral ground. Think “While You were Sleeping”….not “Home Alone.”
The purpose of this challenge is to stay anchored during the holidays and fill our lives with Love and Lose the things in our lives that cause stress, anger and pain. Let us go into 2025 feeling good, even great physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Though we say we are “comfortable" with the holiday scenario….crazy Uncle Freddie is going to get drunk, Aunt Wilma is going to make that awful ambrosia, another soap on a rope gift…we don’t have to accept it. This does not serve us well. This does not make us happy. This does not make us the person we want to be. Let’s walk away from their issues.
Lose the angry people. Do not get dragged into a confrontation. Say “well bless your heart” and walk away. Blow them a kiss for good measure.
Lose getting guilted to eat food. Bring something you want to eat to family dinners, enough to share but to help you stay on track and feel good about yourself.
Lose 24 hour news TV. Listening to pundits and comedians spout off, does not lift one’s spirit. Use news alerts and headlines then decide if you want more information.
Lose the people….for awhile….go out for a walk, breathe fresh air, sit and be by yourself.
Lose the stuff that just doesn’t work in your life. It takes time. Letting go of what is hurting you is more difficult than letting go of clothes that do not fit….though there might be a connection.
Lose the guilt for doing what you truly want to do. Follow your heart.
Lose the regrets…the "should of, would of, wish I could of" does not help or change things. At the time it was what needed to be.
Lose being the “go to person” for everything….no is a powerful word.
NOW Love it!
Love yourself first. Get/stay healthy, lose the weight, stop the drinking, your journey is unfolding.
Love new traditions….not everything has to be made from scratch for one. Go out to eat. Stop with the tomato aspic, no one wants it. Put a $ limit on gifts and no gift cards.
Love a potluck dinner not the big production meal.
Love sitting and watching a roaring fire while listening to music.
Love something you want to share with others.
It is good to remember your past but don’t cheat your future.
Let go of anger, let go of the need to do more. You are doing your best and that’s enough.
You are not the shape of your body or the number on the scale. You are loved for you!
You have blessings in your life and remember you are a Blessing. Just ask anyone of us.

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning. The weather was lovely. When we got back I planted the 4 pots of mums from the porch, DH got out the extension ladder and knocked down bird and wasp nests from under the main floor deck. While we had the ladder out we washed the outside of the basement windows. He helped tote the Boston ferns down to the basement in advance of the cooler weather coming later this week. By the time this was all done we were ready for lunch and relaxation. I spent some time in the afternoon looking for the "notions" needed for the toy soldier. The only thing I couldn't find were some 8mm silver beads. I may look for them online. We had French dip sandwiches for dinner. After dinner I watched a Christmas movie and stitched.
It rained overnight and is supposed to rain all day and into tomorrow. Heading to yoga in a bit and I have my nutritionist consult this afternoon.
Liz- WTG AF/OP/biked. Sounds like a fun week for the grands and grandma!
Jan- Yay for a productive day and DH working on outside chores. Hope you can find a wrist support that works.
Vicki- Sorry the cold has settled in. GL on your 2.5% challenge. WTG holding on to weeklies and having a positive mindset.
Carole- Sending you {{{BOT}}} vibes.
Cindy- WTG cleaning off the rest of the kitchen counters, cleaning out fridge, starting new password book. We are constantly having discussions about how long to keep expired condiments. DD will not use anything that expired as recent as yesterday. Hope the rain helps your bushes. The Manning hour sounds fun. Hope you get lots of deals at Kroger. We're going to Indiana for our family Christmas on December 8, not sure of the departure and return dates. I made 13 Santas.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Good morning all. Well I read that November 19th is "Have a bad day" day, so I'm using that as my reason to stay home from WW this morning. Actually, it's been raining all night and nasty out, I am cozy in my PJ's on the couch with my coffee and wasn't feeling the getting out this morning. I did WI at home, I know that is the results from some wine last night and way over my weeklies this past week of processing and eating some feelings. My plan is to try to get to the Friday meeting up in Appleton for an official WI, see what that day brings. At least with all my activity yesterday I burned enough to offset some of my behaviors. Glad to start my week over and try again. The A is out of the house, still just to tempting when it's here, struggling to draw that line in the sand and just say no more. Nothing much on the plan for today, if it dries up a bit later I need to go pick up scripts, and then if I'm out I might do some snooping. Maybe I can find the brace that Liz sent me at Walgreens or Walmart. I also want to get some buttermilk to make up a cranberry pepita seed loaf to use up my cranberries. When I tried my "Crapple" after it was baked, the berries were still way too bitter for me. I sprinkled on a few packs of stevia, mixed everything up and let it sit awhile. Then it tasted much better, like baked apples or pie filling. I am going to have some on my oatmeal this morning. I usually also put some SF maple syrup on my cereal so that will also sweeten it up. I also want to get back to Pick and Save (Kroger) before the ad changes tomorrow. They have some instant mashed potatoes and canned veggies for like 99c that they ask for at the food bank so I will stock up on some more before drop off. The pantry puts a list of wants on their web page and of course for now it's lots of holiday type items. Hope you all have a nice day. Jan Cindy. We were getting the high wind gust with the rain last night too. I don't see any damage outside and some of the trees are still holding on to their leaves, so couldn't have been that bad. I need to get out and fill the bird feeders tho, I see where they are all over the back yard looking for goodies. I had DH leave the flowers that have seed heads, so that is helping for now. Hope the rain brings back some of your plants. I went through freezer for old things but haven't even attempted the condiments on the door. We always have a tater sauce that's way out of date. Buy it for one fish meal and then never use it again . I will tell my Sis that I have fixed up her Air BNB . Carole It's so hard to get BOT at holiday time. You will get there, or at least you go to the gym and burn it off!! How many days do you get off for the Thanksgiving break? Liz I'm going to look for that brace you sent me, or maybe have to order a few on line like Cindy said. Smart to use your one debit card for shopping. I have a separate bank account that used to be my mom's when I was her POA. It's where I put my tax earnings, fair money etc and then spend on what I want. So glad Isabel and her mom got to go see Bluey and you got time with Michael. I miss my knitting time and think I will try some today, as long as I don't try to overdo it. yay for getting on the bike. Baby steps. GG. Sorry the cold settled in, but PJ days are good too. I have some guilt about not going to my meeting this morning but can do a zoom if I want and then try to get myself going on Friday. It's the same leader, just a different town. If I go up there I can also do a Costco visit and see what trouble I can find . You should be proud that even feeling off you made dinner, took care of yourself and still have weeklies. I always want to Feed a Cold or Fever or really anything ha ha. Boredom eating I know. Hope you feel better soon. Have you heard anything from Murphy? Amy Hope the rain isn't too bad and you can get to your exercise class. Sounds like you got a lot done yesterday. You made a lot of Santas!! Hope you find the notions you need for your soldier, are you trying to get that done to take to Indiana? When you say egg wrap for breakfast do you mean like eggs in a burrito shell or those flat wraps made of eggs only? Just curious. I think the crapple would be good with some of the Swerve or ?? brown sugar sweetener on it. I'll make it again, could crush up a graham cracker in a bowl, fill it up with apple and add some whipped cream. Mini pie. Are just you and DH going up to Indiana? Waving hi.

Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, housework, tracking, A gone. Glad you are feeling better and hope you don't actually have a bad day today. I should be able to finish the toy soldier to take to Indiana for my niece. My egg wrap is a CarbCounter tortilla, turkey bologna, Velveeta slice, and 2 eggs over easy. It's just DH & I going up for the family Christmas, but my cousin that lives in Florida will be staying at Mom's house with us.

M-W Word of the Day
moot adjective | MOOT What It Means Moot typically describes something that is no longer important or worth discussing. It can also describe something that is argued about but not possible for people to prove. // I think they were wrong, but the point is moot. Their decision has been made and it can't be changed now. // Perhaps they should have foreseen the effects of the change, but that point is moot.

Happy Holidays and welcome to the New Year! Hi Girls! Yesterday was an AIM day; not a bad eating day, just went over calorie allowance, did get on the bike for 15 minutes. I have been sleeping pretty well and only waking up once to go to the bathroom. Today I knitted until about noon, then took a shower to go to hairdresser and get a haircut. Since this last haircut which was exactly what I wanted, I decided to get back onto a 6 week schedule to keep the lines. Tonight I ate a bunless cheeseburger, and some string beans. I just plan on watching a little TV, not QVC because I bought another lounge outfit. I need to curb the spending as much as I am enjoying it, lol! Can't wait for the next season of Outlander to drop, if I am not mistaken I think it is going to show on the 22nd. I wish she would come out with the next book, it has been so long. Just getting a little lazy now and want to catch up on news, ugh!
Amy~ WTG getting the potted mums planted inground, ferns in the basement, and DH getting rid of the hornets nest! Hope everything went well with the nutritionist this afternoon. Hope you find the 8mm silver beads that you need.
Jan~ Yay for all that activity to offset calorie intake, no more A in the house to tempt you! I wish I knew was "have a bad day today" I wouldn't have mad my hairdresser appointment and then just stay home in pjs, lol. I never need an excuse to stay home in my pjs, lol! The crapple sounds good, if you substituted the uncooked cranberries with craisins, I'll bet that would really be delish, but of course would defeat WW standards, lol.
Waving hello to all that follow.

Hi girls. Been a pretty good day and will end up in my points if I close the kitchen now . I had one detour at the grocery when a donut jumped in my cart. I really only like a regular cake donut or the crullers. The grocery I went to today had a cruller so I treated myself. It's a good thing my closer store doesn't make those!! Got my scripts and a brace at Walgreens. Had it on for a lot of the afternoon, see how I do after being consistent a few days, still didn't do any knitting tho. Had a nice nap and just a pretty lazy day. Not a lot of steps. Going to have some TV time, hope my show, "Murder in a small town" is on tonight. Still cold and wet out and looks like more of the same tomorrow. Hope you are all having a great evening. Jan Liz. Sounds like you had a good day. Hope you like your hair. Maybe you can have a PJ day tomorrow :0

Hi All!
Want to go to bed but there are a few things I need/want to get done before I do. Did go to the store and it was not fun. DS came with me, took Tylenol and wore a brace. I think he just wanted to get out of the house. The woman in front of us in line had quite a few groceries but no matter. Her bill came to $257 and some change. The clerk is a bit slow but doing his job. The woman starts to pay in fives and ones and she is pulling money from different envelopes and her wallet. The clerk is counting the fives in sets of two, nothing going into the cash register. I'm looking at DS and we both are thinking scam. We aren't too far from the customer service desk so I leave DS in line and walk over and say I think some help might be needed. The line is getting long and the clerk is getting flustered. By this time the woman is switching twenties for the fives. Once the customer service person came over, the woman suddenly finds her credit card and wants all the cash back. It was crazy. Customer Service picked up all the cash and moved the customer over to the customer service desk to finish her transaction.
I'm just more tired than I want to be so will chat tomorrow.
Hugs, Cindy
