We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Just checking in to wish you all a Happy 4th of July!
Ran a lot of tests on DH yesterday, but everything kept coming back normal. Finally late yesterday evening they sent him home wearing a Holter monitor, and we are to follow-up with more outpatient testing. He is in pain from where he hit his neck, shoulder, and arm but nothing was broken. Has pain meds, but still hurts when he moves. He hit the back of his head so hard that it made him bite down so hard he broke off his front bottom tooth at the root. They found his tooth in the ER in his pajama top. Just have no clue why this happened. He is feeling weak. I don't feel safe leaving him alone, so step-son #2 is coming today to stay with him while I go buy some supplies my mom and dad need and take over to them. I am so grateful that they are in AL, and I know they are being taken care of so that once I get them restocked on their supplies if I can't get back for a few days they'll be fine. Wouldn't need to do this if my mom would just eat the food at the AL as my dad does, but she won't, and that's not going to change so I'll stock up again on pimento cheese, peanut butter, Ritz crackers, bread, ice cream sandwiches, and Ensure. That's all she'll eat except she does eat a little cereal in the dining room each morning. Otherwise she goes to the dining room with my dad, but just pushes her plate away from her and won't even take a bite of anything. She won't even eat it if they offer to make her a grilled cheese or hamburger, etc. She's mostly living on pimento and cheese and Ensure. They have even made her pimento cheese sandwiches, but she won't eat the ones they make for her in the dining room. It's just all in her mind. Lately she's also been getting a lot of ideas in her mind that never happened such as somebody sending her a big package of wash cloths that were really men's handkerchiefs (never happened), waking up in the night and there were about 4 men in their apartment being really loud laughing, etc. No one there, but she is convinced there were. That kind of thing. All part of this hated disease called Alzheimer's.

Joyce, sending you and those you love HUGE energy packed cyber HUGS! I'm very pleased to hear all the test your DH had came back normal. That's wonderful news! My concern is passing out, breaking a tooth, hurting your neck, arm, and shoulder is NOT normal. So, while I am more than relieved he is okay, does anybody have a clue as to why that happened and how can we prevent it from happening again? May he have a speedy recovery and good health. Joyce, I want you to know if you were Catholic you'd be a Saint by now! Just sayin'. Thinking of you and your loved ones with Healthy, Healing, and Positive Thoughts! ((((Joyce))))

Joyce, I really feel bad for you. The fact that all came out normal for you husband is good, but equally perplexing. Please make sure he stays adequately hydrated. Dehydration is a real menace, and is sometimes forgotten. I always keep Pedialyte (generic is fine) at home.
As for your mom, I know it is difficult, but take it in as much stride as you can, for your own sake. Too bad she doesn't want to eat anything else that is high in protein, like beans and healthy cheeses.
I know this is difficult, but you can only do your best. Be good to yourself and know that you are doing your best. As my mother would say, "Take care of yourself. You'll be no use to anyone if you get sick!"

Thinking of you , Joyce & DITTO the same thoughts from Pat & Barb. Not fair you have to have this heaped on your plate of caregiving. My Mom also went thru the " paranoid" stage of Alzhiemers. Hers lasted quite awhile. So, sorry you have to deal with this too. Hope you & DH find some answers soon.

Joyce- I am so sorry to hear of the latest developments in your family. As per Pat you would be a SAINT in any Religion.
Barb- Boy/son is on his way back to you and Chitown, over Ohio now heading to Midway, love Flight aware.
Now that the grands are older he makes one trip alone to see us. Good to talk and quietly enjoy each others company. He and Scotty did the Cemetery tour of the Ancestors (told them to take whisky oranges and rice). Good guy time for the both of them. (lord knows I'm not interested, been there done that).
Will go and see if there is any food left in the fridge.
Then nap and garden time....BBL

Robert Reich.......
Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (America never was America to me.) Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. (It never was America to me.) O, let my land be a land where Liberty Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath, But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe. (There’s never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”) Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark? And who are you that draws your veil across the stars? I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart, I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars. I am the red man driven from the land, I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek— And finding only the same old stupid plan Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak. I am the young man, full of strength and hope, Tangled in that ancient endless chain Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land! Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need! Of work the men! Of take the pay! Of owning everything for one’s own greed! I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil. I am the worker sold to the machine. I am the Negro, servant to you all. I am the people, humble, hungry, mean— Hungry yet today despite the dream. Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers! I am the man who never got ahead, The poorest worker bartered through the years. Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream In the Old World while still a serf of kings, Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true, That even yet its mighty daring sings In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned That’s made America the land it has become. O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home— For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore, And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came To build a “homeland of the free.” The free? Who said the free? Not me? Surely not me? The millions on relief today? The millions shot down when we strike? The millions who have nothing for our pay? For all the dreams we’ve dreamed And all the songs we’ve sung And all the hopes we’ve held And all the flags we’ve hung, The millions who have nothing for our pay— Except the dream that’s almost dead today. O, let America be America again— The land that never has been yet— And yet must be—the land where every man is free. The land that’s mine—the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME— Who made America, Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain, Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain, Must bring back our mighty dream again. Sure, call me any ugly name you choose— The steel of freedom does not stain. From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives, We must take back our land again, America! O, yes, I say it plain, America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath— America will be! Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death, The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies, We, the people, must redeem The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers. The mountains and the endless plain— All, all the stretch of these great green states— And make America again! -- Langston Hughes (1902 - 1967)

Omg! Linda, both the things you posted gave me goosebumps. Made me smile and have a lump in my throat at the same time.
I'll skip the fire works and the noise that frightens my pets and the wildlife. I'll hold on to the feeling of hope and pride that I honestly thought I didn't have anymore. Even if it's only for one day. Lol.
Thanks for posting this.

Pat's right, Linda, those are both beautiful. Thanks for posting them.
