WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

C75D21, no exercise.
Number of Binges in each month of 2016
Jan--------2 Feb------- 1 Mar------- 2 Apr------- 4 May------ -1 June------ 0 July------- 3 Aug------- 1 Sept------ 4 Oct------- 2 Nov------- 8 Dec------- 1
Hoping to do much much better in 2017!!
I enjoyed the blintzes this morning. Not something I would have, or even want, regularly (a bit sweet) but they’ll serve as an occasional treat and a way to spice up the routine. My 4th mini meal was a bit out of the box. There was a jar of Artichoke Bruschetta in that Thanksgiving basket. So I bought a small Italian bread and spread some on three very small slices with a little parmesan cheese and toasted them to have with a bowl of vegetable beef soup and a salad. BTW I found a yummy salad dressing now that I am no longer limited to FF varieties. Ken’s Light Options Parmesan & Peppercorn Dressing. I am enjoying my salads a lot more with it.
Edesia – It is so wonderful to read your 2016 summary and how you’ve found peace with food. I’m hoping to follow in your footsteps. As for the exercise, I think I’ll use your advice and just continue what I’ve been doing instead of challenging myself to increase it and feel guilty about not doing my fitness tapes on non-exercise days.
Kathy – I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about IE. It may be just the ticket for you. It would be fun to go thru the journey with you if you decide to give it a try.
Beth – I’d love to know how you made the hash browns. I did spiralize potatoes a few times and just seasoned, added some oil and baked them in the toaster over. My DGK loved them that way but I have a feeling they could be improved upon. Did you do them in a frying pan? Were they curly fries or did you do something else? Hope you enjoyed the New Year’s party. We watched couple of Downton Abbeys and then the midnight festivities. We love doing nothing together on New Years.

C25. D2. Letter perfect day yesterday. Had a plan for the party, stuck with it, and did not feel deprived. I have my points for today planned and tracked.
Have a sick kid this morning, so will have to come back for personals.

One DANGER eating on the horizon today is making dehydrated apple rings. It's not the apples that are the problem, but the Cinnamon Imp candies I dissolve to dip the apples into before drying them. That is my favorite candy and so I'll have a couple bags in the house. They are ONLY for cooking, not for snacking!

Morning, BFF's! Yesterday was a hard, hard day (mom-related), but I think we have come up with a partial solution to give some stability to her life. I also think that she reached her "bottom" and may be willing to make some much needed changes to deal with the reality of her situation. Without an intervention, she was facing eviction and impending homelessness. Heartbreaking, truly.
DH and I met back home later in the day and spent a quiet, NYE together. We were both so drained from the events of the day, we took a nap at 10:30 and set an alarm to wake up before the ball dropped. Then we watched some fireworks in the neighborhood and called it a night. Woohoo! : )
Nancy - I am positively joyful that you are trying new foods and expanding your eating horizons simply for enjoyment's sake. Remember my post to you about taking off the training wheels? This is exactly what I meant. You've GOT this!
That was an interesting observation Lori made about when the binges happened. Here's my theory, from an IE standpoint. At the end of the month, you were shooting for a free weigh in...much more restriction...WI completed...boomerang/BINGE eating afterwards in relief and in response to the extra restriction. Repeat. It will be very exciting to see if things change as a result of your new approach. ETA- I just realized the numbers in your post were not dates. I still suspect that restriction of some sort always preceded the binges.
Kathy - That sounds like a fantastic NYE event to be part of. I hope you and your family had a great time. Re: the truck, it's DH's new car. He doesn't need a truck for any practical purpose, but fell in love with it. There are actually quite a few in our immediate neighborhood. Some days I feel like I would drive a tank if I could, on some of the roads around here. Bad drivers abound!
Beth - Mmmm on all the food.
Lori - I know what you mean about getting back to a routine. Today and tomorrow will be spent preparing for "real" life. ; )

Lori - Actually that was the number of binge days for each month <g>. I edited the list now to reflect that.
Kathy - Treating the apple candies as a "danger" is one of the things IE tries to help us avoid. I'm surprised at how well her approach is working for me. Anxious to hear your thoughts when you read it.

Edesia - You snuck in while I was posting. It would be wonderful if you're able to help your DM see her way clear to ameliorate her situation. Not easy, I know. I don't have a way to check, but I think that in most cases the binges occurred when I was out of my immediate controlled environment. Then, having gained some weight, I would give myself pressure about the upcoming weigh-ins which added to my awareness of the restrictions. Whatever the reasons, this way is so much better. And as I say, it's not a free for all. The many years on WW and among my precious BFFs has given me a basis for healthy eating and sensible portion sizes that stays with me. She talked about 90% healthy (and controlled) and 10% out of the box - Well something like that. I can't remember her exact language. I think that's pretty much how I've been approaching IE.

Good Afternoon BFF: C1D1 Treadmill D1 Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!!!! This is the year to get in shape! DSis & I were talking about the times we were heavy and got down to our goal weight and I said what was it that made us do it that particular time. Think we decided it was because we felt so bad physically & mentally that we had no other choice. Love you all, Cindy
