This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Anngie and Pinky, sounds like you both had a nice New Year' Eve planned. Hope it worked out well. We had a nice time, and DH didn't want to stay too late, so we left about 12:30. Dinner was delicious, and of course I ate too much, but today I will start tracking. Count down to wedding! I have a while until I have to go dress shopping, so let's see what I can manage.
I had a busier day than I wanted during the day yesterday, but managed to finish Faithful. I loved it. Not sure why, something about it just got me, although it wan't really a happy story.
Not sure exactly what I will get to today. House is not in bad shape. My cleaning woman will come Tuesday, I had her skip last week because I had just cleaned up because DS and his girlfriend were coming by Monday. I can't make an excuse 2 weeks in a row. I have some shopping to do, so will check who is open. My dermatologist told me to use Dove liquid soap last time I was there because I developed psoriasis. The 2nd time I bought it I chose an extra moisturizing that had a terrible smell. To me it smelled like what they use to clean commercial bathrooms. I e-mailed them, and they sent me 2 coupons for the full cost of a bottle. Now I can throw out the one I bought without feeling guilty, and I will pick up 2 bottles so I won't lose the coupon.
I want to read more of Swing Time, because I want to move on to Underground Railroad, but also came up for the new Robyn Carr. Last night I also got 2 recommendations for other things to put on my hold list, now that I have room.

Happy New Year!
Sorry I have been MIA. Just like everyone else, it has been hectic. Really happy that the holidays are over. Robin, I just saw that the Jets walloped the Bills, congrats! My hands get bad during the winter also. Just my right hand.
I tried reading the Underground Railroad, but did not like the beginning, so I gave it back. One of my holds came up yesterday, so I started it last night, after our company went home. It is Five Presidents, by Clint Hill. I have read his other book, Mrs Kennedy and me, and liked it. This one seems a little drier.
Baby sitting took over my life last week, with the kids out of school, and DD2 had to work. Thursday I turned 63 and I truly felt my age...getting up at 5:15 is just not for me anymore!
We had my cousin and her hubby over for dinner last night, and I have to say, I amazed myself. We had a few venison tenderloins. I found online a recipe for beef tenderloin, with a white wine cream sauce that I did for the venison. Very good, and of course very tender.
Robin, I will be getting back to tracking Wed. That is when we start back to the Y. Really looking forward to it.
We are getting antsy for tonight's Packer/Lion game...they are playing for the division, and the Packers have been hot. But they are playing at Detroit, so ya never know.
Hi to all, and again, Happy and healthy New Year! I WILL be back tomorrow, now that my life is mine again!

Happy Birthday Karen, another 1953 baby. I might think I am still only 40, but I certainly don't when I try to do things that I never thought were a big deal at 40. I could never get up at 5:15 on a regular basis without it being because I woke up and can't fall back to sleep.
I know Underground RR is a hard read, but it is also not that long, so I will see.

Good evening. Was a dreary, foggy day today--the ac is on though...
Still reading Pharaoh, I seem to have lost the ability to concentrate. Meds, I guess. I had a longitudinal tear in a ligament repaired and also a tendon repaired on my R ankle. I am on crutches, which I haven't used since 2008--awhile back for this nearly 65 year old woman. I find myself unsteady on them and there isn't room for a walker in here. I was sent home Thursday, the day of the surgery. It will be at least 3 months of recovery--and that's if all goes well.
Angie--sounds like you had a nice New Years!
pinky--you are as busy as Robin! Your family holidays sounded delightful...
Robin--glad you have something for your hands, and that your dinner last night went well.
Karen--you were missed! Everyone was busy except me--flat on my you know what:) CarolO

Carol, sorry you will be suffering so. Not sure if you had a reason for the tear, but one of the things my husband's surgeon told us was that if you have bone spurs, they act as a saw on the tendons, creating tears, which is what he had in his shoulder. I know that crutches are a lot harder than they look. Can you get physical therapy at all? Not surprised at all that you are having trouble concentrating on reading. I know you live in an RV, but is that your permanent home now?
I am really trying to track food now, so just made myself a very nice salad with grilled chicken (that I bought) corn, fat free feta cheese, roasted red peppers, along with lettuce, tomatoes and bell peppers. I use Bolthouse dressings. They are made from yogurt, very tasty, and low in points, either 1 or 2 depending on the flavor.

I'm still feeling a little blah. I woke up with a headache. The meds help, but make me feel a little loopy. I still have a dry cough. I think only time will help that. I'm doing what Webmd says-suck on hard candy or cough drops, drink a lot of water. I'm so ready for all this to go away.
We took down all our Christmas decorations Saturday and got them all put away. Things in the house are where they belong, but I need to dust and vacuum.
I think one reason I'm still feeling down is because I haven't exercised in over two weeks, not even taking a short walk. In fact, I haven't been out of the house much. It's bright and sunny and 60 degrees. I guess I need to go sit in the sun for a while.
I finished the Michael Connolly Bosch book, The Closers. I just read My Name Is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout, the author of Olive Kitteridge. It is fairly short and was a quick read. Next up is Everyone Brave Is Forgiven. It is set in London in the early WWII years. It is by Chris Cleave who wrote Little Bee which wasn't one of my favorites, but the summary of this book sounded interesting.
CarolO, I hope your recovery is quick and smooth.

Carol, sorry you are still feeling so bad. Have you tried hot tea with lemon and honey? That's often good, not to mention good old fashioned chicken soup! I am sure the cold is making you feel so bad, not the lack of exercise, although fresh air is nice.
I guess I wasn't the only one going shopping today, the mall was pretty crowded. They have a very old system to get on and off the parkway, the old fashioned clover leaf, and that was bad. Glad I went there when I did. Our parkway has very low bridges, and someone decided to disregard the signs and drive onto it in a very large RV. They may have gotten under the first bridge, but they are not supposed to be on there so of course the cops stopped them and who knows why, but they had the traffic all blocked up. I went bra shopping, which I know we all love. 25 bras later, I decided that the best was the Wacoal, which I am too cheap to buy, but decided to go for it. One was on sale, the other 2 were not, however, I was waiting on line, so started searching on my phone. I was able to get the other 2 on sale too. One through their own website, in a color I preferred to the one I was going to take, and one with Amazon Prime, both with free shipping! I was pretty desperate because I snapped the underwire in one of my ones at home that I liked. At least I wasn't bathing suit shopping.
