We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

I guess this means JA is "very angry" this morning Two more Republicans grew a spine. Now both sides just need to come together and fix the problems in Obamacare. The question is, will Republicans be willing to do that or will they instead force Obamacare to fail leaving millions of people stranded? Have we reached the point that the political divide is so great that it is impossible to work together for the good of the country over partisan politics?

I think those that have the power to change anything concerning health care, will just Repeal & forget Replacing. They care nothing for all who will be stranded without anything at all. It's a mess just like JA has turned this country into.

I'm afraid you are right, Linda. How sad for our country! If we can't work together and fix healthcare, then we are doomed even without JA leading the band.

How hypocritical of McConnell to blame Dem's for not working with Rep to fix Obamacare....my goodness, isn't he the King of Obstrucion when he & several others said they would never work with President Obama on day 1.....McConnell just makes me gag! Literally!!!!
Good, bad or ugly I still think Universal Health Care is the only way to go now. Congress is never going to work together under this JA in the White House. Just sad the way this country is starting to crumble under this Prez.

I'm all for universal healthcare with a single payer system, but don't see any chance of getting it. Still one can dream. Repeal only would be a total disaster. As for McConnell, he is the epitome of hypocrisy.

The new hospital that was just built across the alley from me, was hurting before this mess. The Nursing Home attached to the new hospital was struggling as well. They even had to sell off some of their beds & take away the Alzheimers Unit. The administration just brought in a an interm CEO to slash jobs, etc otherwise the word is the hospital & Nursing Home will have to close in a couple months. The new hospital has only been up & running for about 3 months. So, now with this current mess, I can only imagine that it won't be long before the hospital & NH will close. Gosh, think of all lost jobs & immediate medical care available for this rural town. Only one of thousands of rural medical facilities affected because Congress can!t get its act together. The new hospital never should have been built in the first place because it wasn't making it before, but my town is practically all Republican. I was only one of 13 Democrats that voted in the last city election...JA is the Greatest Destroyer of all Time!

Linda, that's really bad news for your town. That's going to happen in towns all across the country I am afraid. The hospital in the small town where I grew up is on very shaky ground as well. It really scares me that Republicans want to slash Medicaid. I can't comprehend how anyone would be so reckless and so careless with the lives of so many people. As I've said before, I worry now all the time that my mom and dad's savings will not hold out as long as they do. As it is, I think we can make it for another 2-3 years with me chipping in and assuming prices and medicine costs don't go up too much. But already I know this new medicine that the doctor is trying to help control my mom's anger issues with the Alzheimer's will be very expensive, yet if it will help is a necessity. Even without that added cost and even though they have a drug insurance plan, their medicines already average between $400-$600 per month. That doesn't include the fact that currently Medicare pays for my dad's nebulizing meds which on their own run a little over $800 per month. I know you have issues about this with Jason also. It's a very scary world out there. I find myself waking up every morning with this on my mind, so I know I must be subconsciously thinking about it all through the night. I've depended on Medicaid as being the backup safety net for when their funds run out, and now I'm afraid that safety net is going to disappear. But even so my family is far better off than many, many others. Others will be left totally with nothing. How can Republicans even consider doing such a thing?

Yes, Jason will be impacted too. Not only his Health Insurance. I am Thankful he is on Medicare as primary because of DH & he is a dependent . Medicaid is secondary. If Medicaid is greatly cut, then his Employment Center that depends on State funding & Medicaid recipient liability could very well be closed too..Jason attends 5 days per week, 6 hours per day. DH & I depend on this for our mental health...LOL.. ( a few hours each day we don't have to worry about Jason & have abit of free time to do things outside etc.). My Mom is Private pay too with NH Insurance & her savings etc. She too only has a couple years before she will need to depend on Medicaid. It's just a damn shame so many families are going to be impacted just on this one issue. If all these decisions are left to the States, well, we in ND will be screwed! The writing is already on the wall. They used all their reserve money from the oil boom to pay lawyers to push issues that were doomed from the beginning. They knew it but just wanted to make a point & get ND in the news! IDIOTS!

Those Republican voters who are for cutting Medicaid either 1) are wealthy enough they think it won't ever affect them or anyone they love; 2) are totally clueless about what Medicaid actually does, who receives it; or 3) are still young enough that they and their loved ones aren't yet thinking about future health issues and possible long term care needs. Yet even for those who are young in age, they have no way of knowing when they might have a special needs child or when they or one of their children will be involved in an accident that will leave them with special needs. People need to wake up and realize what talking about cutting Medicaid actually means. I believe that most of the people in my state truly don't realize what that actually means. Democrats need to get the message out there, because we most definitely can't depend on our Senators or our Representatives. And there is no way Tennessee as a state can make up the shortfall if federal Medicaid money is cut.
Anyone who would vote in favor of such an outrage simply has no heart, and I'd like to see them try to figure out how to care for their loved ones without the money and healthcare benefits that the rest of us are providing for them. I don't begrudge them those benefits. I just think the rest of us should be treated as well.

" How can Republicans even consider doing such a thing?"
Because they honestly don't care about the people that voted them in. Not at all. If they did they wouldn't even consider doing such a thing. Or, it's all a distraction to make us ignore that pesky Russian thing. But, I digress...
Assuming the voting machines were not tampered with, my question is how can their constituents keep on voting for them? How can the voters keep on doing such a thing? Either they have no idea what's going on or they just don't care. Perhaps ignorance truly is bliss. As well as delusional. Bliss might make you feel happy but it can't write you a script for pain, remove a tumor or a defective body part, sew you or your loved one up to stop the bleeding, etc.
Ignorance isn't bliss. Ignorance is a death sentence.
I was impressed with the people that showed up at the office of their elected officials and DEMANDED they don't mess with the ACA. And yet, I couldn't help but wonder if these same people would continue to vote Republican. We are the people that gave these men/women power and control over our health care and our lives.
Do you think it's time we demand more of ourselves as well?
BTW, If they begrudge health care for me and those I love I most certainly begrudge paying for theirs!
