We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.
During the last six months of incredible uncertainty in our nation's future, he put country before party standing his ground on the front lines, fiercely protecting American democracy.
To John McCain, a true American Hero, we are thinking of you today with gratitude and respect. Whether we shared the same ideology or not, we honor your decades of service and independence, especially when speaking truth to power. As you again prepare to fight in now your most difficult battle, we send our best wishes, declare our admiration, and extend our thanks for your lifetime of service.

It is very sad news about John McCain. No matter how much someone might disagree with him about political policy, certainly we have to admire his military service and strong courage. Wishing him the very best as he begins this new battle, and thinking of his family too. This fight will involve them all, and my heart goes out to them.

As for the man pretending to be a president, he just can't stay out of his own way. Even on the days he starts out staying on message, by the end of the day he is off on another tangent and once again shooting himself in the foot. It's going to be interesting to see if Sessions stays or goes now. I'm sure JA's lawyers wish they could just put duct tape around his mouth, but then they'd still have to deal with his Twitter ramblings.

One thing you can say about John McCain, is that, even tho he was loyal to his Republican Party, he wasn't afraid to speak out if he disagreed with his party, he was willing, in many instances, to reach across the aisle & at least listen to the Dem's & in some cases work with them on certain issues. You don't find that very often anymore in the new Republican Party. If you don't tow the line, you are then labeled as disloyal to the Rep. I didn't agree with him either but I still had respect for him as a person & his dedication to his work in the Senate.
Elizabeth Warren will more than likely be the target of a Twitter storm after what she said about JA this morning...LOL...GO EW!
If this NYT interview doesn't show how unhinged JA is, I don't know what will. Hasn't he accused the NYT of being Fake News ? So, he gives them this rambling interview, ? All I can say, is, keep talking JA...LOL
It's pretty clear that JA is willing to throw anybody under the bus if you disagree with him, so why in the world would anybody come on board now if he fires Session. Sessions was his most loyal supporter from the get go.
I'm really getting mentally weary from all the breaking news everyday.

Shall we make bets on whether Sessions will resign following JA's most recent mind-dump? His stream-of-consciousness unfiltered manner is now speaking of the president in the third person! Its nuts

People are saying, "If Jeff Sessions had any self-respect, he'd quit Trump's Administration." In point of fact, having zero self-respect was a requirement for joining Trump's Administration. -- Andy Borowitz

No, I don't think Sessions will resign. I think he will let JA fire him first. And then JA will lie & say Sessions resigned...UGH!...I hope Sessions does not resign. I don't like the guy, but at least, I think he did the right thing in recusing himself. Besides, we could get someone even worse than Sessions, but really, who would want to take any job offered now from JA. It would be a full time job just watching your back so you don't get get stabbed or thrown under the bus by JA.
Another bet, how many times do you think Manafort & Jr. Will plead the 5th next week?
i also think he will fire Mueller!!!!

I agree that we could get worse than Sessions. Sessions was trying to cover his own behind when he recused himself, but that was the right thing to do. Anyone else who stepped into the job is doing so knowing that JA expects total loyalty to himself, not to the country.
I agree that sooner or later JA is going to fire Mueller. It's just a matter of time. Then what's going to happen? Will the Republican Senate finally grow a collective backbone? Or, will it just be business as usual?
No way can we expect truth out of Jr, Manafort, or Jared. Lying is as natural to them as breathing.

Dan Rather......
We’re now six months into the Trump Presidency…and what do we have? Especially in light of the stunning new New York Times interview with Mr. Trump? A reasonable analysis is: What we have is the weakest, most chaotic, toxic and confusing first six months of any U.S. Presidency in history. Only Abraham Lincoln got off to a worst start, with the country virulently divided over slavery and the Civil War looming. Fair to note that Lincoln went on to become one of the greatest Presidents ever, but the challenges Lincoln faced were epochal, not the self-inflicted implosion we are currently witnessing. Lincoln's successor Andrew Johnson had a rough start too. But Johnson was not an elected President; he ascended to the office upon the assassination of President Lincoln and the Civil War. No elected President—none—has had such a tumultuous, scandal-threatened, and downright mind-boggling start, with such low public approval, as has this one. And this has happened while the President’s party controlled both Houses of Congress, now likely the Supreme Court, a majority of governorships and state legislatures—and the FBI. It is not bias or political partisanship to conclude this. It is fact, historical and otherwise. It is those who deny this that are the ones blinded by partisanship. With this fact—and in no small part because of it—comes a companion conclusion: that this is dangerous time. Very. No one should underestimate the potential peril. Not just for the Trump Presidency but also and more importantly for the country. Our people are troubled and divided. Friends and allies abroad are worried (as in, “what the hell has happened to America?) Enemies and competitors smell vulnerability. In his NYT interview, Mr. Trump blasted his own appointed Attorney General, former Senator Jeff Sessions, and, in effect and not for the first time, threatened Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible crimes involving Trump family members and associates and Russia. Mr Trump specifically demanded that Mueller avoid looking into the President’s tax returns and financial dealings. In other words, “don’t follow the money,” in regards to possible Russian dealings or anything else. Thus, raising anew the question, “what is he hiding?” So, six months in, and on and on it goes. Where it ends no one knows.

Even though this guy holds the title, in my heart and soul, he is not the president. My mind will not accept it. I see this as nothing more than a TV show that has managed to have coverage 24/7 and the host is a ratings hog. He know's he's a fake, we know it, and so do all his supporters.
This is a game. I've never been that fond of silly game shows like the one where the host gets his rocks off by firing people. He's still firing people. Now the people he's firing are needed to make our government work properly. We need them. We do not need an out of control corrupt lunatic picking them off one by one or a weak and neutered Congress pretending he's perfectly normal.
Enough is too much already.
Sigh.

I thought this was a good article dealing with Republican proposals for healthcare and the "president's" complete lack of knowledge about this vital subject . . . www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-trips-over-his-own-ignorance-health-care?cid=eml_mra_20170720I put "president" in quotes because as Pat said, he's not really a President. He has the title, and he won the election but not for one single moment in office has acted Presidential nor as a statesman with the good of the country at heart. So he pretends to be president. He seems to think it's all some reality TV show.
