...starts at 11AM ET.
I usually watch the HGTV coverage. It is a bit less annoying than the networks. It can also be live-streamed, but I find the "how they made the float" information kind of fascinating.

I was trying to find the parade yesterday and had forgotten if the 1st falls on a Sunday they don't have the parade until the next day.
I'm not watching it this year. No reason really. I grew up in southern California and my grandparents lived on the parade route for a number of years. Our family used to camp out in their living room so we could see the parade live. Great childhood memories.

I enjoyed seeing the parade this morning. Beautiful flowers and fun floats. My mom had called to remind me. My aunt and uncle used to live in Fountain Valley so mom and dad did go to the parade a few years. What memories!

I don't like the network coverage either. Too many commercials. This year I watched the RFD-TV coverage. They emphasize the agricultural tie-ins. One of the hosts is very knowledgeable about horses, and I enjoyed her commentary on the equine units.
In past years I always looked for the broadcast from KTLA, an independent station in Los Angeles. It was usually picked up by one of the cable channels. They would present without commercial interruptions. However the long time hosts both retired last year, and I couldn't find it available on our cable this year.
While my mother was alive, she would watch the Rose Parade from her home in Indianapolis, and I would watch the parade from wherever I was living at the time. I always knew that my mother and I were doing the same thing at the same time, and I would feel especially close to her across the time zones and distance. Even still today, although my mother has been gone over 15 years, when I watch the Rose Parade, I feel closer to her. It's my best New Years Day memory.

I record it to speed through the commercials. I used to live not from Pasadena, but I have never been to the parade.

HGTV doesn't do commercials during the parade. An occasional quick promo for their shows. They did a pretty good job this year - talk a lot about what the floats are made out of and how they were built. They actually pipe down and let you listen to the bands also.

I forgot to DVR the parade today as I ran out early this morning but was pleased to find it on the Hallmark channel when I got home...annoying infomercials, though. Bucket list is to see it live!

I wish I knew about the HGTV coverage. I love to hear about what the floats are made of. I think it is just amazing what they can use to create those things. They are so beautiful.
We ended up watching a big network and they were SO annoying. Never mentioned what they were made and made a joke in very bad taste (well, the band is from Japan so the parents won't really know or care if we talk over them). On one float they said "it's about peace, or something like that". I was really disappointed at this is my favorite parade.

It was the only channel showing it this afternoon when I got home so that's the one I watched. Gadgets and weight loss commercials galore!!!

What a sweet memory. I feel the same when I watch "Matlock" and "Murder She Wrote"!

As I said, I did not watch the parade on Hallmark. Sorry, I passed misinformation. I had watched the countdown to the Rose Parade on Hallmark and they said it would be commercial free, but I did not stick around to find out. They lied to me or else I misheard them. Lol
