This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Well, this certainly doesn't feel like a Monday, but seeing as they decided it is a public holiday, I will take it. Of course someone can get in touch with me anyway. I couldn't fall asleep last night, and when I finally did I woke up at 9:30. The power went off during the night, could have just been a flash, but all the clocks reset. I took care of the 3 that are in the kitchen, coffee maker, microwave and oven. I have to do the bedroom. At least all the electronic devices don't reset.
I posted last night, so no more personals. Karen, I see that Green Bay won, and they will have a home game next weekend against the Giants, so we will be rooting for Green Bay.
I am going to go to Macy's to look for a few things, have to find my coupons. I am thinking it won't be too crowded. What they have done on the parking garages is to list how many available spots are on each level on the outside of the garage, before you go up the ramp. I don't mind walking, extra exercise of course, so I find it helpful. I have to dig out my coupons, I know they are somewhere.

Hi Robin and awf. Happy New Year everyone. Sorry I was mia for a few days. My younger sister left today so I will be staying at my Dad's house tonight. I still went over every day but was able to sleep at home. I enjoyed and needed the break. I finished Sting by Sandra Brown. I did enjoy it. It was good but not great. I hope everyone had a good holiday. Robin enjoy your shopping. Have a good day. Take care.

Good afternoon. Robin, that is interesting, about the parking garages. At least you would know, if a level is full. I park far away in parking lots, just to get in that little extra walk. For some reason I feel like it is Tuesday...no clue as to why, really it should feel like Sunday to me. Thanks for the birthday wish! Yay, thanks in advance for rooting for the Packers, I know your reasoning. I have been reading stories about the Giants, and Manning. Guess he is having an "off" year. Did you find anything worth buying?
CarolO, sorry to hear about your foot. Robin mentioned you live in an RV? Where are you parked? Ha, I had a broken ankle back in the late 80's, and was clutzy on them then! Do you live alone? That will be rough, 3 months of recovery! Good luck...
Carol2, Hi, hope you are feeling better now. I know what you mean, about not being happy that you have not exercised. It is killing me that I have not had any walks, for I think a month now. Can't wait to start back to the Y, on Wed. Enjoy your reading.
My birthday lunch that my brother took me out for was great. I wanted a taco salad, but all they had was a "Nacho Granduzzi" (the name of the place is Anduzzies) I ordered it, and it was a part of the appetizer menu....WOW!!! That thing was HUGE!!! Could have fed a family of 4!! LOL!!!! I of course shared as much as I could, and brought enough home for dinner. I had the chicken, instead of ground beef, so the only bad parts of the nacho was melted cheese, and the chips. Oh well...I drank 2 big glasses of ice water while there, will probably have a glass of red wine in alittle while, so my day isn't too bad, eating wise.
Still reading 5 Presidents....he started the book with Eisenhower, and it is dragging, so I can't wait till we move on to Kennedy, should be more interesting.
Wisconsin won the Cotton Bowl, that was neat. We are looking forward to the game sunday, but the temps are supposed to be around 0! No thanks, they couldn't pay me to go sit out in that bitter cold. Will be comfy in my living room...screaming them on.

I have been gone for a while but now I am back! DD and I came home from AZ on Thursday. Nice visit, glad to be home, always glad to get back in my own bed. I shared a sofa bed with dd and it was a territorial war every night!
As for parking - I don't mind parking further in the summer but in the winter - no thank you. For reference see Karen's note about the forecast for Sunday's playoff game!
Not really reading now. I finished Snow Falling On Cedars when we got home from AZ. Very good. Once I got past the first few chapters, which for some reason did not grab me when I tried to read it earlier this year, I really liked the book. I recommend it. For some reason none of my holds are calling to me enough for me to take off the suspensions and the ones that aren't suspended are really long waits anyway. Hamilton came and went while I was reading Snow so I missed that. Not sure what I'm in the mood for - thriller? Current Lit? Historical Fiction? I just don't know.

Mighty cold where you guys are. Welcome back Marsha. My younger son's girlfriend went to Wisconsin, so if the game was today, the probably watched. He went to the Jets game yesterday with some friends.
I could have bought loads of things when I went shopping, but stuck to really what I went for, our least favorite thing I am sure, bras. After trying on at least 25, I ended up buying one Wacoal that was on sale, and ordered 2 others of theirs I wanted online, that were also on sale, but not at the store. I guess there must be a reason why they are a lot more expensive, but I figured I don't end up buying them that often, so I would just suck it up and go for it.
I finished reading Swing Time. 3 down on my holds, 1 major one to go, Underground Railroad. I have a Robyn Carr too, but that is a night time read for me. I also got the Will Trent #5, but if I don't get to that, I will just get it again. That was a very short wait. I have 7 more books now on hold, some that people mentioned last night. After Underground RR, I will have finished all 5 of our newspapers top 5 fiction books of the year.

Hello ladies! NY eve was very nice, glad we went. Today, I spent most of the day taking down Christmas decorations. For me, when it's over it's over!
I, too, no longer sleep well. No problem falling asleep but I can't stay asleep. I sometimes wake up at 2 and feel like cleaning the house! What's with that!!
Happy belated birthday Karen! How nice of your brother to take you out to eat! Very thoughtful.
CarolO, how did you tear the ligament? Ouch! Jill, nice that you could stay home to sleep a bit. Much more restful - does your dad often get up during the night? Robin, what a pain to have to reset the clocks! Sometimes our power goes out for mere seconds and they have to be reset. I've used Dove bar soap for years but it was a liquid soap that had a peculiar smell? Carol2, did you start "Everyone Brave" yet? I've come to really enjoy that era to read about. I'll look into that one!

Anngie, glad you enjoyed your New Year's Eve. I noticed some people taking down their outdoor lights yesterday, it was a beautiful day. Today it's been raining, so I'll bet all the procrastinators are going to be sorry. Most take them down by now outside. Wednesday we will probably see lots of trees out for the garbage too. Yes, it was a liquid soap, and they are expensive, so I was annoyed. I haven't bought bar soap in years, we switched to liquid soap a long time ago, so that could be expensive too for all I know.

I meant to post on today rather than Sunday.
I took a nap and am feeling much better. I still cough, but I did have soup for lunch. I just made a cup of tea.
I didn't mean to complain. We had a good Christmas. Both kids and their spouses were able to come, though at different times. I think everybody was happy with their gifts and we had good visits.
We stayed in on New Year's Eve. DH is not a night person so he went on to bed. I stayed up and watched That's Entertainment 2 on Turner Classic.
I haven't started Everyone Brave yet. The time era was what attracted me.

Hi Friends----not sure if anyone will see me here this late but will post anyway. Had a lovely day with 2 DF's. We went to Watertown and enjoyed the Grand Opening of Hobby Lobby. We are so excited to have this store closer to us and of course we all walked out of there with several bags. Spent a little time at the Mall also and had a nice lunch together. DH is gone tonight and I am hoping to do a little reading. I need to get back to Ordinary Grace as we have book club next week.
Karen-----Happy Belated Birthday, sorry I missed it on the actual day. So nice your DB treated you and it sounds delicious.
Robin------Glad your shopping trip turned out well. I haven't heard of the Wacoal bra's-----what makes them special??
Jill----I bet you will miss your DSis being around to help and just a shoulder to lean on.
CarolO------Oh ouch that sounds like a nasty injury and surgery and crutches for 3 months---YIKES!!!! At least you do not have the snow and ice there to deal with them in. Guessing an RV could be tricky also with crutches. But you know how time flies and it will be over before you know it---RIGHT!!! Speedy recovery wishes to you.
Carol2----Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Anngie-----Wanting to clean at 2 a.m.-------I can't even wrap my head around that--LOL!!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for a good nights sleep tonight.
Marsha----Welcome home--glad you had safe travels and can enjoy your own bed again. Had to smile at the visual of you and DD on a sofa bed and the territorial rights!
