We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Looks like a lite news weekend. Not surprising I suppose, with Congress on recess and JA busy playing golf. The entire month of August will likely be quiet. Maybe that's a good thing. Better quiet than turmoil.

Here in ND you can almost feel & smell Fall. It's cool, cloudy & grey today. A great reminder that Fall really is just around the corner.
I hope with JA on vaca, it will be a quiet 17 days for the whole world. I think we are all mentally weary of breaking news & outrageous tweets everyday.
DH was invited to go fishing with DS & DGS today. He left last night, so I'm on Jason Duty by myself. Makes me realize how much DH helps with Jason's care & how hard it would be to do it myself day in, day out anymore. Joyce, I know you are lucky too to have your DH helping you with your parents. I can really tell both DH & I are slowing down the older we get & it now takes two of us to do what we used to be able to handle alone. Not saying we couldn't but it would definetly be HARD.
Having said that, it just makes me think , what are people going to do if JA & Congress cutsMedicare, Medicaid, etc & Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, Group Homes, etc start closing. It will be a real wake up call to most Americans when they realize they have some tough decisions to make about aging parents, special needs kids & adults, etc. Joyce & I have been lucky ( in one sense) so far, that we could make this work for our families for now, but in the future it will be extremely hard for anyone facing these issues. Scary times ahead with JA & Republican's in control & the denial by so many that JA is a dangerous & destructive President for this whole country. JMHO
KAC tried to out talk George Stephanoupous (sp) ...man, that woman can rattle on in her snarky way. I hate listening to her, but some days just can't resist...llike a moth to a flame..LOL
So, Stephan Miller being considered to replace "The Mooch"... UGH... That is so much worse!!!
Hope you are all having a relaxing weekend.

Open and honest about his lying? What's wrong with this comment? Could it be that pesky little word "honest?"
He's open and "honest" about lying? WTH? No, really. WTH?
I swear Planet Earth has been sucked into a black hole and we're all living in an alternative universe. In this brave new universe all bad things are good, ugly is beautiful, lying is honest, truths are lies, etc.
This bizarre way of thinking reminds me of an episode of The Twilight Zone. A woman is in a hospital bed with her face all wrapped up. There's a group of doctors and nurses tending to her, but if I remember correctly, we only see them from the back. I think the patient was the sole survivor of a space ship that crashed on their planet. Her face was is such bad shape the medical team tried to repair the damage. Slowly they remove the dressing from her face. When the final wrap is off she's a beautiful young woman! The staff is terrified and recoil in horror at the sight of such an ugly being! They're afraid of her. That's when we finally see their faces and all of them are the opposite of what we'd call beautiful. They don't see her as beautiful. They see her as ugly, repulsive, hideous, and frightful. WTH?

Joyce, the worst part about that Borowitz article is I could hear that disgusting, demented voice in my head saying those exact words. OMG! Borowitz is brilliant. A breath of fresh air. I needed that. Thanks for sharing.

Linda, those things all scare the you know what out of me too. As you say, we have been fortunate so far. Much more fortunate than many others. These people who are not out fighting to save Healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. have absolutely NO IDEA what kind of future they are looking toward. Actually, although I've always been in favor of universal healthcare I truly had no concept of the true need until I became a caregiver for my mom and dad. Even with my mom and dad in AL now, it still often takes two of us to handle all the things that still need to be done. I often ask myself how would I manage without DH. I would, I know because we do what we have to do. But it would be ever so much harder. And as horrible as it sounds, if my mom and dad outlive their financial resources and Medicaid dries up before they need it I can't bear to even think about the possible consequences. The thought gives me nightmares. One more thought from Andy Borowitz . . . "US Could Save Time, Money by Impeaching Pence at Same Time"

Morning news - Pence says he will not campaign for president. We all know what "will not" really means when stated early in the game. "I am here to tease you and begin drumming up support - come on, make me do it"!
"Please please! We want God's true son for president! Barefoot and pregnant women abound! Men will rule the world again!"
The theocracy may be coming.
