This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Pinky, so glad you had a nice day yesterday with your DF's. Always fun to look around those stores. We do not have Hobby Lobby here, but have heard of it. We have at least 3 others like it though, so no shortage of craft places. Of course when I stopped in Michael's for knitting needles before the holiday they didn't have. I guess during the cold winter it's good to have craft projects. As far as the Wacoal bras go, not sure if there is anything special, other than the price, although they are similarly priced to others, and when I was talking to my mother she said that her cousin told her about a bra that she wears that costs twice as much. The good thing about them for me is that they fit. On all the other brands I seem to be in between sizes for both cup size and the rest of it. I put the one on that I did buy yesterday, and I think I can actually see a difference in how it looks under a sweater. Of course what I really want is the one that makes you look like you had a breast lift.
Carol, don't worry about telling us how sick you were feeling, that is what we are here for, and we all have been there. Of course I was saying jut last night to DH that I am not going to get sick because I bought Nyquil and Daycare last year because I had a good coupon, and one is still un-opened, the Daycare I took when I had the vertigo because my nose and ears felt stuffed. I am glad you enjoyed having your kids over, sometimes I think it is better to celebrate with the separately because you can focus on each couple, rather than them focusing on each other.
Anngie, I agree with Pinky, cleaning is definitely not what I do at 2 am. I will admit to opening my kindle and reading a little while.
I have to start my Pinterest Books I Have Read in 2017 board, as I finished Swing Time yesterday. I think it was an interesting book, but a little all over the place, with a little bit of an up in the air ending.
I started Underground Railroad, but am not that far into it yet. It does show how bad slavery was, but I have read that many times before. From what other people say though, it must get worse. I am almost half way done with the Robyn Carr book too. It seems like it is a stand-alone that she could work into a series, but it doesn't have any tie-in to any of her others, which have various overlaps.

Hi Booklovers! A cold breezy morning here and it is supposed to snow. A lot of schools cancelled to the north and west of us, so I am sure it is making its way here----hopefully it will die out before it gets here. Guessing Raini from our old board is in the midst of it now. I am hoping to do some reading later on today. I received a B&N gift card for Christmas so may need to do some shopping---HHHMMMMMM!!!!!
Robin-----Glad you seen my late post yesterday with the personals. Hobby Lobby has pretty much every craft item one would need but so much more also. They have wonderful home decor also. One can look and look in there and find most anything imaginable for your home. Did I tell you how excited I am about this store----LOL!!!!! I told my friend yesterday this is going to be dangerous to have Hobby Lobby so close and her reply is it will be a fun dangerous though!!!Thanks for the the Wacoal bra info---I will watch for them.
Have a great day ladies!!

Not wanting to start a political conversation, but I try to avoid shopping Hobby Lobby. I disagree with their stance and how they impose their opinions on others. We have a nice JoAnn's so that is my preferred place for craft items anyway, and a Michael's too. Haven't done much crafting lately. When I pull out the shawl I've been knitting for a few years I get maybe 1 row done and put it away. I think I should stick to potholders - they are small enough to finish!
I took all of my books off hold. Some have really long wait lists anyway. I'll see what comes in first. Also put the next Lucas Davenport on hold. Usually I put those on hold when I finish one but I guess I didn't think time. Now I have 10 holds which is the max they allow.
trying to wrap my head around eating better, which in my case means kicking chocolate completely, and having trouble with that. Skipped the Y this morning because our regular Monday meeting was this morning and I wanted to be home for when dd left for school. I wasn't sure if dh was going to let her drive since there were icy spots, but he told her to take his van with its better tires. Then she forgot her parking pass (which was in her car) and got a parking ticket at school.

Marsha, I had heard that about Hobby Lobby, but seeing as there isn't one near me it's not really relevant. Sorry your DD got that ticket.
I am also recommitting today, or Sunday really, but finally weighed myself this morning because of our family challenge. It wasn't pretty. Whoever loses 5% of their body weight first will get a $50 gift card. I am thinking it will be my younger DS. It should be DH, but I am not sure how into it he is.

Feeling much better today, thank you. I am not coughing near as much and my headache is pretty much gone. I got a good night's sleep. This morning I got the house dusted and vacuumed and made a start on shredding all the papers from last year that we don't need to keep.
I'm having trouble getting into Everyone Brave Is Forgiven. It may just be because I haven't felt well and was hard to concentrate. I will keep at it.
The temp is dropping and we are supposed to be cold for the rest of the week. I'm okay with that as long as we don't get ice.
I don't usually boycott businesses because really, we don't know the political or religious leanings of most of them. That being said I didn't agree with Hobby Lobby's stand on paying for employee's birth control. I don't go to Hobby Lobby very often because I don't do crafts much, not because of that disagreement. One hint-Hobby Lobby always has a coupon in their ad, plus good sales. It is one of those places where you shouldn't pay full price.
Robin, your family challenge sounds good. That gift card would be good motivation.

lol. I was only kidding about house cleaning at 2am! I just wake up around that time - wide awake - as if I've slept all night. Then I toss and turn forever it seems. I did buy a reading light and sometimes I just sit up and read awhile. I really just want to sleep the night, though.
I have a Hobby Lobby about 35 miles from here along with an A.C. Moore. Close by there's Michaels & Joanns. The best prices and sales seem to be at A.C. Moore.
Right now it's raining, but the roads were a sheet of ice this morning. Some schools were delayed.
Glad to see we're recommitting to WW! I really need to get serious. Spring/Summer will be here before we know it!!!! (Not soon enough I'm afraid). Is anyone going to try to listen in on Oprah's "talk" that we were emailed about? I'm not even sure how to do it - need to check into that!

Just reread my post - I took all my holds off suspension, not off hold! Hah! I have 10 books on hold and I'll see what pops up first.

Carol, glad you are feeling better. Sometimes there are books that we just can't get into.
Anngie, I have the kindle paperwhite, so no need for a book light. I feel that sometimes if I am tossing and turning 15 minutes reading will put me to sleep. Those are the stores we have near here too, but within 10 minutes at most. Everything on Long Island, in my area anyway, seems to be so close by.
Carol, what I say about Bed, Bath & Beyond is that I don't know who would ever pay full price for anything there. I sometimes even say the same about Macy's. Does anyone ever pay the regular ticketed price?
I came home a little while ago. There was supposed to be a break in the rain, so figured I would walk the dog then, but no such luck. We are having the strangest weather. It is supposed to be clear and in the 50's again tomorrow. Then in a few days our overnight temps may go down into the teens, but at least no precipitation, then it will be back up in the 40's and raining. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't snow while DH is in Florida next week for a conference. Although with his shoulder, I don't know that he could really use the snow blower anyway. Tonight he is going to be out for his office holiday dinner that they didn't have yet. I like that, because I can eat what I want and keep points low, although I have used very few so far today.

Marsha, funny but I couldn't figure out what you were talking about, it didn't really make sense. I added a few more to my holds. We can only do 7 for my local library, and at least that from the NY Public. I just got one from them, it was on one of the highly underrated books list, but sounds like it is pretty gruesome, so not sure if I will get through it. I am about 65 pages into Underground RR. There are some parts so far that are pretty bad. When you read this kind of book, you see how terrible slavery really was. It wasn't just about owning human beings, it is what they did to them that is so terrible.

Today is Tuesday, but I still am for some stupid reason a day ahead of myself. I should be a day behind! Looks like a chatty bunch today, I am going to do my best to get caught up.
Robin, Pinterest books? I did not know you could get books from there! How does that work? You are lucky about getting a bra that fits...my life with bras is, if it does fit nicely around the chest, the straps are a tad loose, and no adjusting can get it right. Thank god for sports bras! Lol! But I like having 1 bra that uplifts you, I refuse to look like how our grandmothers did, where it looked like they were not even wearing a bra!
Marsha, welcome back! I did not know that about Hobby Lobby. Maybe I would, if I was a crafty person. I know what you mean about getting back into better eating. When I start back to tracking and all, I have to do it slowly. Then a few weeks later it just clicks, and wham! I am immersed in it. We stopped at the Y today, so I could get signed up. I am loving the fact that I have silver sneakers. I have to check their online schedule, to see when there is open swim tomorrow, and get it figured out so we can go tomorrow. We will do cardio first, then the weight machines, then go swimming. DH loves the hot tub, so he goes in there for a little bit. I know you will be able to get back into the ww way of eating, just be patient.
Anngie, yeah that was funny, about doing house work at 2 am. I have tried to read my kindle, if I wake up during the night, but my eyes just don't want to focus. I won't be giving Oprah the time of day, but I am not a paying member of WW. I track using the ITrackbites app on my phone, love it. I do Points Plus. I also print out the paper trackers, which I need to have also, so it is right in front of me, on my kitchen counter. Good luck to all of us!
Pinky, good luck with your weather!! Getting a tad dark here, but still warm (33). The temps are supposed to go down, I think tonight. Deep freeze the rest of the week. Did you get to B & N? How fun to get a gift card for there!!! I would be in heaven!
Robin, that is why I gave up on Underground Railroad...I am sorry for all those slaves, for what they went thru, but I just can't handle reading those stories.
Just made the 8 can soup recipe for our lunches for the rest of the week. We really love this soup, and it being a WW recipe, perfect for getting started on program. (It is 1 points plus, per 1 cup serving...and full of vegies)
My hand is killing me so off I go...have a great evening everyone.

Karen - what is the 8 can soup recipe? The Y almost always has circle lanes (lap swimming) unless there are swim lessons going on. The West Side pool (that is probably the one you use) has a really bad setup for lap swimming. Broadview and downtown are the best as both are normal pools so when it is all circle, there are a lot of lanes. East side has a lap pool but only a few lanes, but at least it is separate from the aquatic park section. I like Broadview. It is close to my house, but even so I love that Y for the way the pool is set up (and dd is a lifeguard there) and there is a separate diving tank so they have the deep water classes also.
Robin -speaking of never paying full price somewhere - Kohls! In fact dh said he needed underwear and I was in our local Target-type store and saw packages on sale list $16 buy one get one 50%. I bought 2 packages and went home and looked up Kohl's online, they list at $38 and I couldn't see any difference! Apparently that is how they make money even thought everyone always has so many discount coupons.

Hi ladies. It is so nice to see so many posting. I took my Dad to his doctor appointment and then we went out to lunch. My Dad is so depressed over being ill and he really has been this way since my Mom passed away. Carol glad you are feeling better. Marsha I didn't know that about Hobby Lobby. We have 2 close to me but it hae been years since I have been in one. I always found something great for the house. Robin I have always had a hard time finding a good fitting bra. I like your family challenge. Hi Karen, Pinky and Anngie. I hope I didn't miss anyone. I am at work so I better run. Have a good evening. Take care.

Marsha, hi! I know, the west side Y stinks, in relation to the pool...that has always been a thorn in my side. I am never happy with their pool schedule, but with us living about 18 miles north, right up 41, they are the closest. And we are so used to that whole area, with Woodman's, Menard's Capital Credit Union and Fleet Farm right over in that area, I would quit the Y, before going all the way over to the East side, or Broadview. Oh well...I know people that move to Green Bay from bigger cities think we are weird how we complain about having to run across town...but that is how we are. I think I have tomorrow figured out, so we shall see. About the soup, I will paste it to a blank reply post.
Hi Jill. My Dad went into a bad depression after my Mom passed away, we finally had to sell his house and move him into a retirement complex. I am sorry you have to go thru all that, but it is a good thing he has you and your sisters to rely on. Hope you don't work too hard.

8 Can Soup
Cannellini beans-1 can
Diced potatoes-1 can
Cut green beans-1 can
Whole kernel corn-1 can
Mixed vegetables-1 can
Diced tomatoes-1 can
Hormel Turkey chili, w/o beans-1 can
Campbell’s vegetable beef soup-1 can
Chicken or Vegie broth or stock, enough to have soup not too thick.
Open all cans. Drain and rinse the first 5 cans. Put into soup pot, and add the stock or broth, as much or as little as you want. This is better as it gets older.
1 points plus per 1 cup serving.
Aprox 18 servings.
