This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

We were so chatty yesterday that we ended up with my last post on the 2nd page. Nice to see everyone back, but I guess we all have more time now that the holidays are over and the weather is cold. We got a very late start this morning. I couldn't fall asleep, then when I finally did, and fell back to sleep again at 6 am after a bathroom break, I woke up at 8:20. DH had an 8:40 doctor's appointment, so we really couldn't wait any longer to get out of bed. His blood pressure was very high when he was in the hospital, so he is being monitored. He has been on meds for many years for it.
Looks like we are going to have a very nice day here, it's already up to 46, and should get up to 50. I am working from home, so maybe will take a walk later. I have mah jongg tonight, and that is always a temptation, but we usually all have fruits and veggies out, so will stick to that. Now it looks like we might have some snow Friday and Saturday, so I have to check that out.
I finished The Life She Wants, the Robyn Carr book. I just checked to see that I read everything she has, except 2 books that need holds from the county library, and I have no more room for holds. I have to check NY Public. There are a few of these authors that I love to read later at night, but also have another Will Trent book, and I know I can't read much of Underground RR in any one day.

Good morning. Yay, a 2 pager yesterday!! We were gabby!!
Robin, I am so very jealous of your temps. My weather bug earlier said -1*, right now it is "UP TO" 1*! We will be shivering till Monday, when it will start to moderate. (28) Sunday's game should be interesting, since the Giants are used to the colder weather, unlike some southern teams, that have domes. I too woke up a tad early, and forced myself to stay in bed till 6:30. I like having a little bit of quiet time, with my first cup of coffee, was happy that DH stayed in bed for about 30 minutes after me.
We are all ready to start our work outs at the Y today. (of course, I should say, I am ready...DH still has to pack his gym bag) Looking forward to feeling sore tomorrow, lol!
Am making One pot chicken and potatoes for dinner tonight. It is very good, and has everything in it to cover 3 of the good health guide lines. When I follow points plus, I believe that is such an important part of the program. I was shocked when WW switched to smart points, and dumped the GHG. Of course when we come home from the gym, we will have a cup of the 8 can soup, and that is mostly vegie's, so we will have a big dose of those.
Will probably make a mayonnaise chocolate cake tomorrow...I like making that cake when on program, since it is in a 13x9 pan...after it is cooled, I cut the whole cake in very small pieces. Makes it point friendly.
Hi to AWF....have a warm day!

Thanks, Karen, for the 8 can soup "recipe"! I plan on trying it this week as soup has always been my "go to" food. I could eat soup every day.
Yes, the Giants are used to the cold - although Eli isn't used to anything! He's 35-36 yrs. old. I think it's time to start shopping for a replacement. He'll never "resign" but he has to retire sometime!
I actually was able to sleep to 5:30 today. Tossed until finally getting up at 6:30. I, too, Karen, enjoy my quiet time with a cup of coffee in the early morning hours!

Robin - I think you could drive from one side of Green Bay to the other in about 30-40 minutes but Karen actually lives out of town in one of the neighboring cities that is in a more rural area so for her to get to the edge of GB would probably take at least 20 minutes. The Y I live near that I like is probably 40 minutes or so from here
I was up before 5 this morning and my alarm was set for 5:15 so I got up. DH was snoring in my ear so there was no point in trying to go back to sleep! I went to the Y even though it was bitter cold, did my deep water conditioning class and my Y buddy was not there again so I worked harder without the jabbering. Still struggling with the food end, and that is always the problem for me. I know I can't lose with exercise.
Supposed to be colder tonight so tomorrow I will probably skip the Y. Then Friday I have TRX so I will go.

Anngie, that's right, you are a Giants fan!! I forgot! I have read articles on my kindle in the evening, about the Giants, and mostly about Manning, when it looked like the Pack would be playing them, IF they beat the Lions. Manning is having an off year, isn't he? With all that I read, I was surprised that they would keep him...is it because of the name? Pretty sad, if that is the case. I am counting on him to keep throwing those interceptions! Marsha, you do TRX?? I got a taste of it, when I was in Live Strong, and loved it! But one of the trainers talked me out of it, he made it sound like the class is pretty hard. So I am envious of you!!! How long does the class last? Is it truly hard? Tomorrow is supposed to be the most bitter day of this horrible weather, but I am going to check their schedule and see if the pool is open around late morning, if so then I will go. DH did not go with me today, had some tummy issues, and it looks like he won't be going tomorrow either. I just went today and did 2 miles on the treadmill. Not much, but it is a start...3 activity points...yippee!!! I had 2 bowls of the 8 can soup for lunch, it was so good. Need to get in the shower.

Hi Booklovers!!! WOOOHOOO on the 2 pager--so good to see everyone chatting. I had a cut and color this morning and I feel so much better about myself---LOL!!! It was getting quite tacky looking. Would have been nice to stay in today with the bitter cold, my car thermometer said negative 9 at noon. The sun is shining so that helps but geez its cold. I am still reading Ordinary Grace and need to get back to listening to Big Stone Gap.
Robin----hope DH's blood pressure checked out better today. Have fun at Mah Jongg.
Karen----good for you for getting to the gym and hope your DH feels better soon. Thanks for sharing the 8 can soup recipe---it sounds delicious.
Anngie----I love soup also!!!
Marsha---good job on jumping in the water this morning even though it was bitterly cold. You rock!!!

Karen - I do TRX on Friday mornings and as with any Y class, it's only as hard as you make it. I don't put my feet in the straps for most of the floor stuff so for example I do a traditional bridge or crunch while they are struggling with feet in straps. It also depends on the instructor - my swim buddy is now in my TRX class, she was taking it at the East side which is where she lives but she didn't like the class so much as she likes the one at Broadview. The class is 45 minutes and it's a paid class so you have to sign up for it. 2 miles is great! Good luck. Do you have the ap? It is easy to check all the schedules on the phone ap.

Marsha, thanks for the Green Bay explanation, although I figured you mean that the Y that is near you is 40 minutes from her, not here. I don't think I would ever go to a gym that was 40 minutes from me, no matter what they offered. it's hard enough to get yourself there when it is 10 minutes away, as far as I'm concerned.
Pinky, I am not envying you guys that cold. I waited until just now to walk the dog, and it was a windy 49 degrees with the sun starting to go down, and I thought it was cold. I know I will not be looking forward to the 13 degrees in a few days. I did get a nice enough walk in, we walk quicker when it is colder, and it is about 3/4 mile.
Karen, I like soup too, but not sure I would load up on the beans like that. I like putting together soups with lots of veggies, but also sometimes make a thick barley mushroom soup with beef, and have that for dinner in the winter. Maybe I will make that next week when DH is out of town, and put it in the freezer.
Didn't check with DH about his blood pressure, but I wish the doctor would tell him he has to lose weight, but so does the doctor, so I am sure he thinks it's pointless to say it.
Pinky, how do you like Ordinary Grace? It is one of those that has been on a lot of lists, but I haven't read.
