So I guess I must go back low carb again. Actually, for a couple of weeks I tried to count both my carbs and WW points, but that was a hassle. How much hassle can I handle? Again, I'll follow the prescribed not severely low carb diet of 60 grams of carbs per day. I know it will be a sacrifice. Do I think I'll be able to stay low carb the rest of my life? Me? Probably I'll fall off the wagon now and then. Sorry to admit that, but it's probably true. But I'll try again and again. I tend to eat lower carb and do keep track of carbs and WW points. What I have found works for me is to do both MFP and WW tracking. I generally track the food in detail in MFP so I get all the macros and know the number of carbs and grams of sugar, etc. Then in WW I usually just quickly record the points. I know the points for the foods I eat regularly. For others I either quickly look them up and record them or I just use the nutritional info from MFP and use the WW calculator and record the SP. And, to be honest, I have found that I can calculate the SP for the whole day and it is within a point of what it would be for individual foods calculated (I do deduct any zero point foods and don't include them in the calculator). I don't always do that (record points at the end of the day) but do it if I get busy (if I am OK on calories I am usually reasonably OK on points). Basically recording at WW and MFP doesn't really take me more than a few minutes more a day than only recording one place.

Hi ladymajky . I also have a spreadsheet I use for tracking my carbs and fat grams, etc. It definitely is a more detailed way to track, but does take a bit more effort than points tracking.
kittylessofabetterme When I was tracking both the above-mentioned and WW points I too found that I stayed perfectly within my WW allowance. I guess that shows that both were right on in terms of allowances for me.

Didn't know there was a plant based Atkins diet. Think I'll take a look. Thanks 100!

Interesting about the plant based Atkins. I was just reading a book yesterday called "Always Hungry" which is a very high fat low carb diet. It has phases kind of like Atkins and South Beach, and you can eat legumes, vegetables and fruit from day one on that, just no grain, potatoes or highly processed carbs. I won't be doing it restricting carbs is an absolute disaster for me, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Linda -- To be honest, I don't know the reason behind DH's carb target. That's what the diabetic counselor nurse told us to aim for, so that's what we did.
When DH was diagnosed, we had no idea how many carbs he was eating. We never paid attention to what carbs were, what foods were carb-heavy, what was a good choice or a bad choice. I bought one of those carb-counter look-it-up books and spent a LOT of time looking up everything. WW had just rolled out Points Plus at that time (Jan 2011), so I was looking up everything I ate for the new points values as well. It was quite an eye-opener for us, and took us a while to wrap our heads around what constituted a good or bad carb choice. DH still has trouble with it sometimes. He wants to think that the foods he likes must be good choices!

I have done Atkins in the past and I also didn't know there was a plant based diet on there.I never followed their plan as such b/c at my weight they suggested I go on the 40 net carb diet plan. When my IBS got worse a few months ago my NP told me to get off of it b/c I wasn't getting in enough fiber and I could have more carbs than that now that I wasn't diabetic anymore.
Kitty,I cross track at MFP but never thought of tracking there first and just quick adding on the WW site. Thanks for the suggestion. When I also count calories I never go over my points but lately I haven't been getting in as many calories as I need to either so that's what I probably should do is to track on MFP first and get in close to 1200 calories and see where that leaves me points wise. It's so easy to track on MFP b/c they have all your recent foods at the top of each meal selections.
