We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Sending prayers to everyone affected by Harvey. It's starting to sound worse than Katrina. They say it will take decades to recover.

Watching the news coverage of Harvey, it sure puts things into perspective. I cannot imagine losing everything in a matter of minutes. So darn sad! The news report that got to me was seeing Nursing Home residents actually sitting in waist high water wanting to get rescued. There is no doubt in my mind where the billions of dollars JA wants to build a wall should go....it should be spent in TX & LA to rebuild & get families & businesses back on their feet. We'll see how this plays out!...

Amen @lka5 ,
Brother and SIL are still here after the wedding Friday. Third flight back home to Houston was just cancelled. They'll try again Wednesday. The boys are okay thank God. Praying their situation holds until their parents can get back home to them.

Pam, hope your nephews stay safe! This is devastating, and I completely agree with Linda about where that "wall" money should go. The infrastructure across the country is crumbling around us, and Texas and Louisiana are in desperate need. Linda, I didn't see that footage of the nursing home but reading your post breaks my heart for them. I have two friends living near Houston, one is safe and no damage or flooding thus far. The other is safe, but has some flooding although nothing compared to what many have experienced. She'll have to rip out all flooring, get new furniture, etc. and may have mold damage, but she's safe and recognizes that is what is most important.
