We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Dan Rather........ Will all those who predicted a few weeks ago that there would be headlines about Trump, Chuck and Nancy having dinner and agreeing to a possible deal on DACA please stand up? Hello? Crickets? It seems like more people win the Powerball. Now Trump is denying a deal and there are a lot of questions. A whole lot of questions. So many questions I don't know where to begin. Some of them lead to easy answers. Should the Democrats trust President Trump? Of course not. Will this go over well with hard-line Republicans? Of course not. Will Democrats now suddenly flock in support of President Trump? Of course not. Can anybody predict what tomorrow will bring? Of course not. But there are also questions that defy easy answers. Do you make a deal as a Democrat with a President that many of your supporters think is about as palatable as Attila the Hun because it can lead to good policy? Can President Trump and Democrats find common ground on an increasing number of issues? Let's be clear, so far the Democrats haven't given up much to get what they want. Can this be the foundation for a political strategy? Will this strengthen the hand of more moderate Republicans to create a governing consensus? Will President Trump's poll numbers go up, because he will get increased support from moderates and independents or go down because most people have made up their mind (they dislike him) and he will lose his rabid base? Will this finally split the Republican Party in two? Or the Democrats? What do you think? What other questions are YOU asking this morning? All I hope is that for all the talk about politics we don't lose sight of policy. These may be high stakes games for the Washington power brokers on both sides of the aisle. But it's not a game for the millions of Americans whose lives, livelihood, health and security hang in the balance.

@lka5, have been thinking about you with the wildfires - looks like the Montana fires are getting worse. I know you have been really affected by the smoke in ND. Hope you guys are okay ;-)

Yes, the smoke & ash has drifted into SW ND making it very hazy some days.....I just feel so bad for the western states affected with fires & the news & Prez hasn't mentioned it. Montana is literally burning up. Just sad! When JA was in ND last week, he said " I didn't know drought came this far north!"......whaaaaat! Oh, the intelligence of this Fake Prez would be laughable if not for the fact it's embarrassing & maddening!...😡

Good morning!
Oh Linda, I so agree about SHS! She is totally as yucky as her father. Her father was recently here in my town. Not enough money in the world to pay me to go listen to him.
So what's up between the Dems and the JA? I'm not really sure what to make of it all. Of course we all know the JA can't be trusted for a second, and I'm sure Schummer and Pelosi know that too. I liked some of the questions asked by Dan Rather in the post above. I think a lot of them could go either way. Definitely we already know anything he does with Dems his radical base is going to oppose vehemently. Will this split them apart? I hope so. I don't see it splitting Dems, at least not yet. Schummer and Pelosi would have to cave on a lot before it splits the Dems. Right now, it seems like they are playing the upper hand. But I suspect that JA is going to put a lot of emphasis on what the polls show. If his ratings go up by working with the Dems, he may continue to do so. If his ratings go down, he'll stop in a heartbeat. He just wants approval and adulation. He has no real beliefs about anything, IMO.
On a personal note, my mom has been very sick but yesterday we could see definite physical improvement. Mentally it's all going downhill rather quickly, but physically there is improvement and I'm hanging on to that right now. This afternoon I take my dad to the doctor, and while there will also discuss my mom's anger issues with him once again. They are getting worse instead of better. I want him to give her some sort of sedative if he will. She is hitting my dad daily now (sometimes multiple times), the delusions are getting worse, etc. Just the long nightmare of Alzheimer's, and my dad tries to cover up because he's afraid they will put her somewhere else apart from him. Friday I take my mom to the doctor, but she is only scheduled to see the NP. BUT there is physical improvement, and I'm focusing on that.

If you are so inclined I'd appreciate it if anyone reading this post would send an email to your Senators in Washington requesting that they support a $414 million increase for research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Alzheimer's disease for FY 2018.
This disease is just going to affect a larger and larger segment of our population as it continues to age. I know that it is much too late for my mother, but now that I am personally living the horror of what this does not just to the patient alone but to the entire family I can not imagine allowing this disease to continue to go unchecked. I know Linda can relate to this as well from her own experience. It is truly a devastating disease and right now there is no hope for anyone afflicted. It is already affecting a huge segment of our population at a dreadful cost emotionally, physically, and monetarily. That is only going to increase if a solution is not found.
This is just a personal request, and please don't feel any pressure to write your senators.

Thanks for the info Joyce. I just contacted both Heidi Heidkamp & John Hoven about the Alzheimers funding. It truly is such a wicked disease. So, sad that your Dad feels the need to cover for your Mom, but so understandable. I hope both you & the Dr can help him understand the danger of hiding your Mom's physical abuse towards him & others. I've seen that paranoia up close with Mom too. So hard to see a loved one change completely from the sweet gentle souls we knew growing up. Thinking of you.

Thank you, Linda! If enough people will speak up, hopefully Washington will address the need for research funding. If we don't speak up loudly, nothing will be done.

The whole bunch thinks they are somehow special and entitled. We are all just here to support their wants. I saw an article about this on CNN as well. These people are really disgusting.

nashville11, Joyce...just sending a hug --- you do so much for your parents. Do hope you have some moments just for you. Tomorrow is the 7th anniversary of my mom's passing--- I always think of her when I read about your struggles. I miss my mom everyday (my dad not so much, unfortunately)---but knowing I did what I could for them both while they were here gives me peace. Being a daughter is hard, being a 'good' daughter is harder, being a good care-giving daughter is even harder.
