We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Dan Rather....... I am pleased to see that there has been substantial criticism and consternation about the appearance of the former press secretary Sean Spicer at the Emmy Awards last night. It is not funny that the American people were lied to. It is not funny that the press was attacked for doing its job. It is not funny that the norms of our democracy have been trampled. I do not know Mr. Spicer or what is in his heart. But to actively serve in the capacity in which he did, and the manner in which he conducted himself, can not be allowed to be normalized. Actions must have consequences. There is a long history of a bipartisan camaraderie amongst officials who have served in administrations. This is to the good and shows the strength of our democracy. And no one is perfect, far from it. We as a people are forgiving and welcoming. But this is different. We are still in the midst of an administration that actively lies to the American people. We do not know where this is all going. There are looming criminal investigations. To have Sean Spicer now lead us in laughter about all this makes me uneasy......... Boy, I totally agree with this from Dan Rather. When I saw clips of Spicer at The Emmy's I thought, what the heck!...is it just me that thinks this is so off to now laugh at Spicer? . I was happy to see on FB this morning Dan Rather put into words what I was feeling.

Good morning!
I didn't watch the Emmys, so missed Spicer's appearance. I do agree there is nothing funny about what is going on in the WH and certainly nothing funny about the continuous lies coming from it. IMO, I would never have confidence in Spicer again with any public role, so his trying to redeem himself now through comedy is totally pointless.
I have no trust in anyone who is currently or has in the past been associated with this administration. If you were ever willing to sell your soul to the devil in order to work under this JA, then I have absolutely no use for you in any role whatsoever.

"President Donald Trumpâs inaugural committee raised an unprecedented $107 million for a ceremony that officials promised would be âworkmanlike,â and the committee pledged to give leftover funds to charity. Nearly eight months later, the group has helped pay for redecorating at the White House and the vice presidentâs residence in Washington.
But nothing has yet gone to charity.
What is left from the massive fundraising is a mystery, clouded by messy and, at times, budget-busting management of a private fund that requires little public disclosure.
Leaders of previous inaugurations expressed surprise at the slow timeline. They say they had a general handle on their finances â and had already started giving money away â within three months of Inauguration Day, though formally closing down the committees took many months longer.
âThe thing about inaugural expenses, theyâre not complicated,â said Steve Kerrigan, head of President Barack Obamaâs 2013 inaugural committee. âYou take money in, you pay it out, and then you know what youâre left with when itâs done.â -- Quoted from AP in a blog by Rachel Maddow
* * * * *
I'd bet the money in my wallet that any "leftover" funds are somehow making their way directly into the JA's pockets. I'll be seriously surprised if any real charity ever sees a dime of it.

I'd like to talk for a moment about the white supremacists, skinheads, neo nazis and anyone who supports them or goes to rallies to give Trump seig hail salutes.
This is the first I've become aware of the Federal Writers Project. As part of the New Deal's WPA program, the Project recognized that not everyone in need of economic recovery was a blue collar laborer, or tradesman, and provided writers with the opportunity to write guide books and other items with the eye of preserving American culture and history. One of these projects was to interview former slaves, who were largely in their late 80s and 90s at the time.
I wish everyone would read this particular volume and learn the truth about the KKK's practices and what they stand for.

I heard Dianne Feinstein's response to JA's golf/HRC tweet & WOW she nailed it. I heard it on CNN & not sure if it was a statement or a tweet, so I haven't found it to c/p here. It was awesome! Hope the rest of you see/hear it too.
The self serving idiot can't even give a speech to the UN w/o embarrassing himself with promoting his Trump Towers. GAG!
This white supremacists movement is dangerous & ugly. I can't even imagine the horror & atrocious activities they carried out in the past & are continuing to do so now on a different but equally dangerous level. I think this movement is bigger than we can even imagine & not going anywhere anytime soon. I think Briebart is the heart of this movement & those that drool all over Bannon & the White Nationalist Movement are disgusting & evil.
Two WH lawyers talking & arguing loudly at an outdoor cafe w/o checking to see who is sitting at nearby tables seem kind of "dumb" to me...LOL... I think their conversation handed a Mueller a gift...evidence locked in a safe...oh, my!...LOL
I heard that Trump administration is not paying current lawyer fees for staff or for those that have left, who are now having to lawyer up ...many peeps upset. Well, DA, if you are covering for a JA of course he is going to throw you under the bus & safe himself...too bad!
Beautiful Fall day here.

Looked up what Diane Feinstein had to say about the JA tweet and also the story about the two WH lawyers talking at the outdoor cafe. Go Diane! As for the WH lawyers, honestly this whole bunch is totally clueless and they are all their own absolute worst enemies.
If anybody is expecting the JA to pay their legal fees, they are beyond just naive. His own lawyers will be lucky if he pays their fees. He definitely won't spend a dime on anyone else's. We saw all during the campaign how he was not paying people he contracted with for work both in the campaign and in his real estate business. He hires them, they do the work, then he stiffs them for the payment. That's the typical way he operates and always has. He's not about to change now.

If you haven't already watched it, Rachel's interview with Hillary was smashing. Hillary was the brilliant woman we know her to be, someone strong with strong name recognition needs to keep after Trump. Reminding people what he has done and what he keeps doing www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-showNo she is not going to go away quietly, nor do I personally think she should. Friend of mine said "her time is over, let someone else lead. OK fine, give me a name of a woman who is that strong. Elizabeth Warren? She is not that strong, should have gotten right back in Mc Connell's face when he silenced her. As for JA retweeting the golf-ball hitting Hillary......this is what his supporters think is fine and gentlemanly conduct? I can only assume that they just don't know any better or as Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) laughed off the president's latest use of Twitter, saying Trump supporters "enjoy" it they think he is a fun guy. Not our idea of a "fun guy" .....we have higher standards, MUCH HIGHER standards.

We will do that.......right now I am reading SMALL GREAT THINGS by Jody Picoult. I know it is fiction, but based on facts, she does deep research on any and all topic she writes about. "White supremacists, skinheads, neo nazis and anyone who supports them or goes to rallies to give Trump seig hail salutes" make me sick Linda- Or Obama "just gets emotional." Joyce- JA has stiffed everyone who has crossed his path from the word go, including his immediate family.

During a NPR interview today, Hilary said IF there was sufficient evidence that Russia intervened w/ the election & Trump & associates colluded she wouldn't rule out contesting the election. I would imagine she would have to have some pretty substantial proof that she would have won had it not been for this. I have mixed feelings about it if she would decide to do this...Would it interfer with the Dem candidates for 2020, would it divide the country more, or would it be a good thing to fight the hypocrisy of JA's Presidency. ? This damn nightmare just doesn't go away, does it...đ Anne...I didn't add the "or Obama" under the post. Not sure who did & really didn't notice it til after I posted it.

It is unlikely that she will get enough hard evidence that she would have won the election.
It would be better if she put her efforts into getting rid of the ELECTORAL COLLEGE since it is no longer doing the job it was meant to do. it was meant to be a safe guard, not a rubber stamp. IMHO

I agree that it is time for the electoral college to go. It is way past its time. In the beginning, it served a worthy purpose I suppose, but technology has moved the country far past where it is needed or serves any useful purpose.
As for HRC contesting the election, I agree with Anne that I seriously doubt there will ever be that kind of hard evidence. How would you even go about doing that? I would assume it would have to go through the Supreme Court. I don't see that ever happening, or the SC ever overturning the election. I would like to see her use her strengths to push forward a progressive agenda. She is a strong woman and a true leader. She's been tested by fire, and come through it even stronger. So she has a lot to offer the country. I just don't think she's going to ever be offering it from the Oval. I really wanted her to win. I think she would have made a great President. But it didn't happen. That doesn't mean she doesn't still have a big contribution to offer the country.

I just don't understand how drumpf & company can continue to do/say inappropriate things and continue to lie and NOTHING happens. Where is the outrage? Where are the adults. During the campaign it was one thing, but now this is the office of the president--supposed 'leader of the free world'. Calling people by bully name---Loser, Rocketman, Crooked, Weak, etc. and retweeting memes and videos that demean, insult and degrade others is WRONG! And yet it continues, the media reports it, liberal-leading pundits and a few congressmen/women may speak out but WHERE are the adults that should be saying this is wrong and that it needs to stop!
Twitter quotes:
"Trump is using the power of the presidency to spread bigotry and cover up his crimes. He is the leader of the mad world, not the free world."
"I am not sure which is worse. 45 spreading bigotry or @gop doing nothing about it. Time to repeal and replace the #GOP"
