We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Linda, that meme is so exactly on target! People become so complacent, and don't really stop and think about how these issues are likely to affect them personally. It's so easy to see everything as distant to yourself. Easy until it slaps you right in the face, and you realize oh this is what it was all about! Then it may be too late. Healthcare is much too important to remain silent about. Even if you're not in favor of a single payer plan, as I know many people are not, I can't imagine anyone truly being in favor of forcing people to be without healthcare, kicking them off when they've reached their cap, etc. It's far too easy to just think about dollars and not think about the fact these are actual lives that will be impacted. That makes it much too impersonal. These are lives, not dollars. People need to wake up and realize that before it becomes too late.
Pushing the soap box over for someone else. I can really get revved up about this issue.

I refuse to believe that this nation cannot take care of EVERYONE's Health Care. And that means good health care....its all about priority & if we don't put the welfare of our own people first before lining the pockets of insurance companies, etc we are doomed as a country. I am for a Medicare type insurance for all. Is it perfect, heck no, but I think it could work. It's certainly worth a try, but I doubt it will ever happen. Leaving this up to the States is a disaster in the making. I can totally see ND cutting funding drastically for Medicaid etc. They are so stingy now with it, that if left on their own, coverage for many things will be cut here & there. This bill is going to drive the rural clinics & hospitals right out of business. Just such a mess because of political fighting & in meantime many will be with out health insurance once again.....And of course, it will really hit people when they have elderly parents that need NH Care & no or limited Medicaid to cover it. How many are going to quit their jobs to care for their parents!?!?...My Mom was lucky because she could self pay & had good NH insurance that was cheap when she purchased it many years ago. You just can't get that kind of insurance anymore. It's going to be one big disaster for the elderly.

It's insane to think they would reorder 1/6 (one sixth!) of our nation's economy with no regular order, no bipartisan support, no OBM imput, and absolutely all of the major health organizations are saying DO NOT DO THIS!

Music to my ears...listening to President Obama speak before Goalkeepers that Bill & Melinda Gates sponsor. . Oh, my, it just magnifies the difference between JA & President Obama. JA can deregulate, legislate & try to take away Presidents Obamas legacy any hateful way he can, but in the end, history will show what a great, compassionate human being President Obama was & how small, hateful & insignificant a man JA is. History will never treat JA kindly! Nor should it!

Linda, you are right that you can't get that kind of long term care insurance anymore, and what you can get is VERY expensive, much too expensive for the average person trying to raise a family. If you wait until the kids are grown and out of college, then the cost is truly astronomical. And even if it was affordable, the government doesn't encourage people to get it by letting them count it as a medical tax deduction. You can count only a very small portion of your long term care premiums as a deduction, and that's not under President Obama. It's been that way for a long time.
Pam's right too that it makes absolutely no sense that they want to persist with this when doctors, hospitals, nurses, etc actually in healthcare are saying "No! This is not a good idea!" Why do legislators never listen to the people on the front lines. When Obamacare was being rolled out, all I could hear from Tea Party constituents was that doctors were opposed to it. Well, some were, but my doctor was not. Now doctors are saying this will be a disaster, but suddenly to those very same Tea Party constituents what doctors have to say is not important. Go figure!

"Why do legislators never listen to the people on the front lines."
Because they don't care about the People at all, Joyce. That's why. That's not even the saddest part about this whole thing. The sad part is "the people" on the front lines will continue to vote for legislators simply because the have an R instead of a D after their name. How sad is that?
"It's insane"
Yes it is, Pam. Insanity along with greed, selfishness, hatred, and arrogance slithered into the WH. Like they say, garbage in...garbage out. Is anyone truly shocked?
"Music to my ears...listening to President Obama speak before Goalkeepers that Bill & Melinda Gates sponsor."
Amen, Linda! OMG! I'm so glad I saw that. He's so gracious, dignified, brilliant, witty, handsome, and so damn cool!

Kudos to Jimmy Kimmel for continuing to fight the healthcare fight for those who do not have his financial resources or his platform to give voice to this important issue.
