Has anyone been watching that Leah Remini documentary on A&E about Scientology, the Aftermath?
So educational and eye opening. (I'll understand if this thread gets poofed)

Yes and I also watched Going Clear recently (HBO documentary). It makes a very good companion piece to Leah's series

Yes, I watched it. I enjoyed it but it got really redundant after a while. I think they made a good decision to go after the practices of the church rather than what they believe.
I'm actually listening to a series of podcasts right now where some people went through a bunch of Scientology courses and reported on the experience. That's interesting too but very long.

azcristi ?!? Has itsrad been poofing you again without telling me?! 😉 No - I haven't been poofed, but wasn't sure if this subject matter is off base for here.
Leah Remini's docu series is well done, IMO. I will say I had NO IDEA what Scientology was about, and I'm just shocked. From forced abortions, to kids dropping out of school at such a young age (some as young as 12) then not being raised by a parent, to the disconnection, assaults, and attacking any critics. My husband & I have been watching with our jaws dropped open.
I hope she wins some kind of award for this exposure, and I hope she does a second series on the subject. Crazy organization.
Oh, and the MONEY SPENT by it's followers... CRAZY.

20/20 aired the Church of Scientology's response to Remini. They're fighting back.

20/20 aired the Church of Scientology's response to Remini. They're fighting back. Of course they're fighting back. That's all they've done from the beginning. It's what they do to try to shut down the people who speak out. There was a really annoying guy in an editing class I took at UCLA several years ago and Scientology was brought up in a negative way by the others in class (probably because it was soon after the couch jumping Oprah moment) and the guy became really angry and defensive toward everyone. He said his grandmother was one of the founders and that Scientology isn't a religion, but supportive of all religions. I didn't know much about it except for Tom Cruise's sofa gymnastics and I told him that TC hasn't done Scientology any favors. Turns out the guy was(is?) Jenna Elfman's husband. Which was an oddity in itself because he was really annoying. I've watched a few of the Leah Remini episodes and it really is eye-opening and sad. I had no idea back in class, but maybe knowing would have intimidated me because they're cray cray.

Its also nuts that they have a tax-exempt status like legitimate churches.

azcristi , I see that we have the same taste in tv. It has been eye opening I'm just fascinated to learn all this. I really had no idea about it - I do remember Tom Cruise jumping on the Oprah couch, and him criticizing Brooke Shields when she sought medical care for post partum depression - he was such an ass!!!

Very few things are off base here azcristi and those few things are so off base I am not even going to say what they are because that in itself will set off an eight page thread 😆No worries, post away!

Yeah, sending their tax attorney to appear on 20/20 is the least of what Scientology does to "fight back" against critics.
To this day the best thing I've seen on Scientology was the famous South Park episode years ago. Their reaction to that is when the "church" first hit my radar as truly bananas.

I've been watching it also. It's crazy but so sad for some of these people. I was amazed at what they are behind "Narcanon", they do programs in prisons, they went into an intercity school and took over the educational system with "tutoring" or something. My DH and I were wondering how many business are run by them that we don't know about
