I'm finding that now I've lost weight my mind doesn't always "see" what I see when I look in the mirror. Sometimes I still feel like I'm at my heavier weight. I guess it will take some time for my mind to catch up with my weight loss.
I was wondering if anyone else went through this. |

Very definitely! I always look at my hips!! I still feel like I could lose 5 more pounds. I actually weigh the same as when I got married 43 years ago and I was not as tiny as my girlfriends. They weigh a lot more now, so I feel skinny next to them.

Definitely yes, but I did get my thoughts in line...I think it takes maintaining for a while, or how can you get used to it, LOL?
I know it helped that I was in my late 50's....after 35 years of obesity, how could I expect to not have loose skin and an imperfect body, but I was thrilled with how I did look.
I was the *fat girl* long before so many people were overweight, and it is definitely weird to see old friends now and be the only person a normal size; it is uncomfortable (maybe only in my head) and makes me glad I don't get home very often.

Yes for sure. When I start to get a bit too self critical about some random body part, I remind myself that it was certainly less appealing when I was carrying 30 extra pounds. I lost the weight and I refuse to let critical (and usually unsubstantiated) thoughts take over. I think some of it is pure habit to look at ourselves and find fault. Like all habits, it takes time to make one and time to break one.
I agree with Pam. I just need to pull out some of my most unflattering photos for a reality check.

I'm not at my goal. I still have at least 10 lbs or a little more to lose, but I'll respond simply to do so in the other way. I am the opposite of you and the others that posted before me. I tend to be very generous with myself when I have lost weight. Actually, I'm even maybe a little too generous with myself when I have weight to lose. I'm 162 lbs (med-large build) and 5'7" and yet I don't see myself as "fat". I ask my husband if I look chunky and he says I don't, but am just not "thin". I know I'm overweight, and I know my cholesterol and triglycerides are too high. I also know that I wear a size 12 in some things and a 10 in others and that an 8 (for me) is ideal. But my otherwise generous view of my body is part of my problem in terms of motivation.
When I weighed 192 lbs (my highest ever) I did feel I looked and felt "fat". At that point I was almost close to obese. My cholesterol & triglycerides were very high then, which was the MAIN motivator for me to lose weight at the time. When I reached the 150s after losing weight my cholesterol & triglycerides became normal and I thought I looked like hot sh*t. Really. But over the years even when I've reached the 150s again, these times my cholesterol & triglycerides have NOT been normal. I've kind of grown discouraged because of that. Kind of like now that I'm in my mid 40s, there is little to do about it with just diet.
I have managed to lose the weight I gained during the holiday period (Thanksgiving to Christmas) and have still retained 10 of the 13 lbs I lost in the last year. Again, I've grown kind of lackadaisical about going much further because of that even though I'm sure my blood work will be bad when it's tested at the end of February. What might be the case when I see my doctor(s) is that they will prescribe a statin and that will give me even less incentive to get back on the weight loss wagon because I might think the medicine will fix things. I've been told so many times to watch carbs and lose some weight. It seems like major weight loss isn't going to happen until I miraculously really get the message. If I ever do. Nevertheless, I keep coming here because I know that if I don't I might REALLY let things go again. I've said a number of times here since New Years that I would start counting carbs/calories again, but I haven't.

I knew there was a disconnect between reality and what I felt I saw in the mirror. As I lost weight I took my measurements every week on weigh-in day and kept a log. Then I would obsessively compare my tape measure results with the size charts in catalogs. As I went from size 18 to 16 to 14 and now finally to 10, I was sure they were messing with the size charts. But no. Each different catalog, and different web site all said the same thing: I AM A THIN PERSON. That's why I put that message in my signature block. I have to keep seeing it and saying it to believe it.
Did you keep a pair of slacks or shorts from your "before" days? Go put that garment on, and believe it!

Funny I was the thinking these very thoughts this week...
I took a picture a year ago and this week I took another. Although I look "thinner" (47 lbs loss on my 5'2" frame) I don't think I look thin at all and still look very "hippy". I'm at a 'normal' BMI for the first time in 12 years and have gone down 5 pants sizes... After looking at the photo I really was thinking I need to lose another 10 pounds. Maybe I should try to get down to the 120's. Or maybe I should just knock myself upside the head???

pbnj It has helped me to see pictures from my pre-WW days. I've also dropped 5-6 pants sizes and I'm still shocked when I put on size 6 pants and they fit. Over time I've come to accept my new size but occasionally I'm surprised when I see myself in a mirror and think, "I'm thin"! Good luck on losing some more weight. I've tried for 3 years to lose 5 pounds to be safely below goal but my mind seems like it's done with losing weight. I think my weight has reset to this lower amount and likes it here. I've never moved up to 36 SP for maintenance because I think this is too many points for me. I'm also 5'2" (and probably a little less since I've shrunk over time!) But, don't obsess about the number. Enjoy your new LT status and live. Just don't forget to track....every day! LOL!

I have the problem also.I am with lmenglish.I keep looking at my hips.I weigh 3 lbs more than I did when we married 32 yrs ago and I keep thinking I need to lose those 3 lbs.I don't see a thin person although I realize I've lost a lot of weight. ksbruns ,Don't even get me started about the loose skin.OMG!I look like an 85 yo woman under my clothes.I will jokingly tell DH I need a body lift and he tells me that's what clothes are for.LOL.Real funny guy he is. cyndee ,I have been on statins since I weighed 332 and I'm still on 1/2 tablet now.I wIill prob never get off of them but the kind I take don't bother me physically or give me leg cramps like some do.I don't think you would have a problem with them but it's up to you and your doctor. linda72 ,You are so small in your size 6.I was thrilled to death when I finally got down to a size 10.This is the longest I've ever been a size 10 before and my big hips are the only thing keeping me from buying a size 8 so I think I want to stay where I am.You are doing fantastic. I never thought of myself as thin until I changed my avatar and one of my online friends in a different thread told me maybe I ought to add in some extra calories.LOL.The only place I don't have extra skin is in my shoulders. |

linda72 and borntexan, I am so pear shaped! And I have teeny tiny ear lobes! But I always thought my ankles were just right til I went on a cruise and could not wear an ankle bracelet because my ankles are 1/2 in larger than the standard bracelet!
