Welcome to our 2018 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

DRYUARYS CLEANSE
"I look to the New Year with a renewed commitment to Progress" (credit to Hazelden)
The sense of true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the fumes released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol. The sense of peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are finding satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first three months of this year, 90 days, to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be. It will be an adventure that can only enhance you!!
From January 1 through February 28 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to ninety days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
To All, Great Success!

I had a nice day yesterday. We had our black-eyed peas for dinner, along with pork roast. For some reason I didn't sleep well last night.
I'm hoping to rollover some points every day this week b/c we're going out to brunch on Sunday.

Days AF: 1
Good morning. Yesterday wasn't hard at all. This morning I have a conference call, 1 meeting, and I hope to line dance. I'm trying to get back into the activity routine. My neck and shoulder are hurting me. I can't help but think losing weight will help all my joints.
DH is miserable. He can hardly walk, and is waiting for an MRI on his knee. Looking like he will have a scope done. He can't wait.
Stay warm!

Good morning all! Such a good start to the year! One of my college girlfriends came and spent the night with me last night on her way to her daughter's in Arkansas to see her brand new grandson! My place is about half way for her so it's good to break the trip up. We had a simple supper that included greens and black eye peas!

Good morning, so good to hear people feeling successful and happy with their choices. I like waking up and knowing I am in control of my day. So far so good, 5 AF days, got my steps in again yesterday marching around last night, blue dot with one roll over Pt. My three things...Me: walking and knitting, Else: DH, took down the tree, vacuumed and packed up the Christmas, working on baby hat for Red Heart, Planet: Recycle tree, bags to thrift store and actually sold some of DS video games and a pair of pants online. Will do it again today. Hopefully today the garage door people will be able to come and set my car free!! Will be prepping some meals today too. Have a great day back at work for those who have been off, keep smiling!
Murphy Sounds like a lovely evening with your friend. I found a treat....I WEIGHED some M&ms...you only get 20 for 3 pts, but I made them last a long time with my hot tea and it was enough.
Amy You had a good eating day! Good idea to keep your points for your brunch. Hope you sleep better tonight.
GG Good first day!! Sorry about DH knee. Mine has been hurting a bit too, hope to avoid the Dr. visit if I can. I'm hoping eating better and not drinking will help. I know they say sugar causes a lot of the inflammation too. Have fun dancing!
Cindy What are you plans for this year? Feeling any travel in your future? How is DS doing? Still liking his job and living with you? Thinking of you.
Carole Watching that crazy cold front, hope it gets over soon for all of you, and US. We are hoping to drive at the beginning of Feb but watching the weather for a "Good" window. Is work today at the school or gym?
Liz Back to work....will you start walking your steps there again? I've told DH that when we move we will have to buy some kind of exercise machine to have in the basement or a spare room for these days when it's too cold to go out. Or I might try to get a PT job at the YMCA, I looked online and they have a great one in OShkosh.
Hi to all, Make it a great day!!

Hi all, I'm really going to try and be all in this year. I hope it's OK if I modify some of the stats for things I'm doing. I really don't do AP, and I'm just starting with my steps. Are days AF only those in succession? Or is it any days during the challenge since we are also counting non-AF days? I'm still going to just limit myself.
I have had a terrible first day back to school. A kid attacked me, his TSS, tried to throw a wooden chair at another student. Luckily it missed the student but broke into many pieces. Right now the urge to have a smoke and a drink is very strong. Going to go home now, have some tea, make the meal I have planned and get myself distracted.

Hi Everyone,
Think I need to start posting earlier in the day!. I felt lousy yesterday culminating in searing head pain. I admit it scared me. When the pain stopped I had a headache and have had one all day. Better living through pharmaceuticals. Will be seeing my cardiologist tomorrow.
It has been really cold today, mid teens, wind chills. We even had snow flurries! Still have the mantle decorated but it was too cold to go out to the detached garage to get totes to pack up the stuff. I basically stayed bundled up, resting. Head feels better tonight.
DS has a new girlfriend. It is in the beginning stages but it looks promising. I haven't met her but it is in the works.
Going to bed.....will post tomorrow with personals. Hugs, Cindy
