Welcome to our 2018 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

DRYUARYS CLEANSE
"I look to the New Year with a renewed commitment to Progress" (credit to Hazelden)
The sense of true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the fumes released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol. The sense of peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are finding satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first three months of this year, 90 days, to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be. It will be an adventure that can only enhance you!!
From January 1 through February 28 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to ninety days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
To All, Great Success!

Overslept!!! Probably b/c it's cold here too- 43 degrees. I know that's nothing compared to the sub-zero temps people have had this week, but it's cold for me. I've got my parka out for my walk, lol.

Good morning all! Another cold morning here and it was spitting snow as I came to work. My cousin in Myrtle Beach sent me some pictures of snow on the beach! We don't expect any here until maybe another week or so though. Sounds like Helen and Liz are going to get clobbered in Boston though!
Amy - I know it's all in what we get used to temp-wise!
GG - Happy to hear from you!
Cindy - I'm so glad you when to the doctor! Follow through with the advise to get the hospital if that happens again ok? Happy to hear that things are going well for DS!
hpeterson - you will find what works best for you in reporting your stats.
Carole - LOL at your weather "warming up"! Have a good work out today.
Liz - Did you get on your bike last night? I was bad and lazy and didn't get on my stepper. I will tonight though! Stay warm and safe in the snow.
I have my eye doctor's appointment on Saturday morning and I'm planning to get new glasses. It's been a couple of years since I got new ones and I need an update. Hope everyone has a great Friday Eve! Murphy

Hi all, It's 10 degrees here. We've only got about 2 inches of snow so far, but they are expecting maybe a little more. We started out with a two hour delay and then they closed school. I grew up in NW PA and lived in Buffalo, so this isn't really snow to me. But I know that you have to be careful in this day and age.
I have ham and bean soup in the crock pot and have already calculated and tracked the points.
Stay warm everyone

Morning friends, We are having rain but I hope to get out to walk the mall or ??today. Not a good eating day for me yesterday and DH bought wine...Uggh don't know why that means I have to have a "taste", then glass....you know the drill. Well, tracked my ugly 40 pts and moving on. Of course with the A came some peanuts, then snacking. Just want to be accountable, so back at it today. Have my food planned out, no A in the house but his beer, so no excuse. I packed up a lot of my craft room yesterday so that was a positive and I bought my food to drop off at the food bank. I will continue to focus on the things that go right and let go of the rest. Have a great day all, stay warm and be good. Jan

Good morning friends!
Yesterday is gone, woohoo! Eating started to get out of control yesterday afternoon when we hear that there will no work for 2 days, it was like going into vacation mode, and started eating cookies, and white chocolate/peppermint crunch carmel coated popcorn, oy! On a good note, it kept me from drinking A. You know we New Englanders enjoy a good snow storm with A. Everyone else runs to the market and we run to the liquor store, lol!
Amy~Loved your husband's solution to keeping feet warm while bbqing outstide!
GG~Yay for the blue dot day! WTG!
Jan~Your yesterday was similar to mine, but put it behind us and move on, remember we are a work in progress!
Murpy~I got lazy too, didn't make it on the bike either, will try later, planning on doing some knitting today.
Hpeterson~WTG tracking your points. I always post my stats from the previous day, and I use the stats that actually apply to me. I follow MyFitness Pal which allows me to log everything I eat and drink. It displays my calories allowed for the day, what I have consumed and what remains (if any, lol). I also have it linked to my fitbit. When I am diligent and really sticking to my low carb plan, it has really worked for me. I just have to get that old mojo back and stay OT.
Waving hello to all that follow!
