Welcome to our 2018 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

DRYUARYS CLEANSE
"I look to the New Year with a renewed commitment to Progress" (credit to Hazelden)
The sense of true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the fumes released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol. The sense of peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are finding satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first three months of this year, 90 days, to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be. It will be an adventure that can only enhance you!!
From January 1 through February 28 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to ninety days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
To All, Great Success!

Yay for the weekend!!! I've still got a lot of Christmas to put away.
It's starting to warm up- almost 50 this morning.
There was an open house at work yesterday for our new hybrid O.R.- appetizers and cake. I didn't even look at it- yay me! We had steak for dinner last night, with lots of veggies.

Murphy- Hope your headache is gone today.
Jan- WTG getting BOT! I have 197 AP's this week, so I guess your estimate of 200 was close, lol. A typical week would probably be a little less, since I had an extra day off on New Year's Day.
GG- Glad things are going well for you. Hope Rylee gets better soon.
Union98- Welcome! You sure have a lot going on. Most of us have found that alcohol does not help us with life's challenges.
Carole- Glad you had a good day.

Good morning all! I stopped by Aldi on my way home yesterday and got most of my groceries. It was so cold that it hurt just walking from the store the car! 23 degrees! Have to tell you that I struggled a little bit in the store wanting to get some wine but with God's help, I prevailed and didn't pick any up and of course I feel so much better this morning! I am going to Walmart later to my eye doctor's appointment and will get the oil changed in the car while I'm there. I need to pick up a few groceries there too so I'm planning on getting some walking in! Will check back later. Hi and hugs to all! Murphy

I love that today is Saturday and not Sunday!! Yesterday was a day of relaxing for me. Today I have to get some things done. What I love about Freestyle is that DH made a Stromboli in the AF. I counted 18 points for it. But because I planned for it, I could enjoy it, and track it with no guilt!! And I still got a blue dot!!
Amy: You are so right about A not helping when times are tough, or even when they are good! It just makes things worse. The thought went through my mind that beer would be good with the stromboli,, but I just said nope, I'm AF.
Murphy: I have to say I'm glad A is not sold in grocery stores in PA. It would be too easy to buy! Like you said, we are never sorry in the morning that we didn't have it!! God,is,good!
Carole: Sorry about the binge. Just move on!! Did you like Jimange?
Jan: Can't wait to hear about your meeting!

Back from Walmart. Got the oil changed in the car, got the eye exam, picked out new glasses and got my groceries. I think I shocked the guy waiting on me with the glasses. I kind of knew what I wanted to change to so it only took about 5 minutes to pick them out. He wasn't ready for me! LOL Now home with my feet up.

The scale went down so I felt my determination paid off. I have been very conscious of trying to get more water and steps. DS got me a big Yeti cup for Christmas. Now when I finish one, I put a rubber band around it to keep track of how many I need to go. It's been tough but I am trying to get 90oz, fill it 3 times. Also made my goal of over 3 days with 11,000+ steps. I know that helped along with some better choices. Today I will make another pot of turkey chili to have for "emergencies" when I just want to eat but not plan. Also I'm making a turkey breast tomorrow for dinner and will try to turn some leftovers into soup. Today is foggy and wet, may just cocoon, knit, watch football later, read. Went to the grocery right after my meeting so have some supplies in the house to make some pre planned meals and treats. Have a great Saturday all, find your happy place and be sure to stay warm and dry.
Murphy Good for you getting so much done early in the day. Now feet up and snuggle time? I'm looking forward to having Aldi when we get to the Midwest, don't have them here.
GG Glad you feel like you're getting an extra day. Enjoyed the meeting today. One woman who made goal 2 weeks ago came in to model her tankini that she bought for a cruise she's going on this week!! That's the kind of crazy's at my meeting and I love it. Mind you, she's in her 60's somewhere and was just so proud!! A at the store is always very tempting, but I've gotten much better at avoiding the aisle!
Amy Glad it's warming up. Have you decided on a step/AP goal for you? Guess you'll see how the scale moves and then decide. DOn't know how you would fit in many more each day. Maybe more strength or core training, which is what I desperately need. Yay for staying away from the party foods!!
Carole You will be right back on track today. Sounds like a fun day with Lexi. A binge is always just a pantry door away here, I saw where dh bought cheetos, a twix bar, chips and salsa and beer yesterday!!! ARggh, but I am learning to stay away!!!
Liz Hope you are enjoying your long weekend and not having to go out. New hat is on the needles, getting to the easy stockinette part so will go quickly if I get busy today.
Hugs and Hi to all. Will check in later..Jan

Hi! It's another chilly one. I did get angel out for a little bit at least. This may be TMI but it's much easier to pick up the yard in the winter then summer! As my dad says, they're poopsicles.....! I went to cycling this am, hard class, so glad I went. I had a much better eating day, although that wasn't hard to do! I bought my airline tickets for FL! I'm bummed, we're coming home Thursday night instead of Saturday morning.....I have to remember it's more days than I expected.
Amy, maybe we can get together?
Jan, you are so organized for your move, that's awesome! I'm glad ds is feeling better.
Murphy, it's like that here, too--where it's hard to breathe outside because of the cold.
Gg, do you think you'll get even more new members this coming week? I don't think it was as crowded at the fitness center as I expected seeing that it's a new year. Someone said it's probably because of the day new years landed on.
Cindy, how are you?
Union, welcome!

Hi, a quick check in since I seem to lose my discipline to check in. Finally put the Christmas stuff, kinda, sorta away...it is out of the house but sitting in various places in the garage. It has been very cold for us, teens at night, twenties during the day but it should be in the seventies this coming week....no wonder so many are sick.
I bought new glasses and don't think the progressive lenses were marked correctly....but my eyes are so blurry from sinuses I am not sure.
DS and new GF are still bonding. I truly want him to move forward with his life. Career together, next step.
I do want to chat with all of you! I guess discipline is my word for the year.
Welcome Union!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Hi all, went out last night for dinner and then to see a friend's band play at a local bar. School was closed for students, but open for staff for in-service, so we don't have to make that day up.
I made a a plan before we went out. I had a very low point lunch, went to dinner and had chicken breast and veggies. Had one Jack and diet.
When we were watching the bands I only had two Jack and diets- spread out from 8:30-2:00am. I was also able to resist the temptation to smoke in a smoke filled bar! It actually smelled so bad that I came home and took a shower at 2:30! I'm very proud of myself.
No, I don't normally go out that late. But when my friend's band play it turns into a late night! I'm too old for this but I love the music.
There are a few local grocery stores here in central PA that are starting to sell just wine and beer. Very tempting
Back on track and feeling pretty good about it.
