Welcome to our 2018 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

DRYUARYS CLEANSE
"I look to the New Year with a renewed commitment to Progress" (credit to Hazelden)
The sense of true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the fumes released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol. The sense of peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are finding satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first three months of this year, 90 days, to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be. It will be an adventure that can only enhance you!!
From January 1 through February 28 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to ninety days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
To All, Great Success!

I got the tree down and most of the other Christmas stuff in the house packed up. Still need to take down the village and outside lights.
DH made cabbage rolls in his InstantPot- delicious! He used ground turkey. I appreciate that he's trying to help me stay OP. I did splurge on a crescent roll.
I changed my WI day to Monday to be consistent with the challenge and my FitPoints to 150, which may be a little too ambitious.

Good morning!
Between the cold and the snow, I have not left the house since Wednesday. We lost power for about an hour, a truck hit a wire not too far from me, but National Grid had taken care of it in a very short time. DS was ready though, he bought the last generator in Lowes Thursday morning, which we didn't have to rely on but gave that security of knowing that we could heat the house and keep the pipes from freezing.
Okay, caved and had A (I guess that was my "comfort food") for 2 days and was AF yesterday. DB sent me the AA Book about a month ago, read a little but put it down. Yesterday read a small excerpt and something hit me, there was a passage that an alcoholic in recovery doesn't have a problem with handling his/her drinking, it is handling one's sobriety, which really hit home. Since July, that first drink after being sober for so long was the beginning of slipping back to old habits. I know that we are works in progress, but I really need to put faith in a higher power, and for the life of me I cannot understand why I have not been able to.
Amy~Yay for DH helping out with cooking healthy meals for you to stay on track!
Murphy~I too have been a slug and either knitted or got under the covers. I did finally order ornament storage boxes so I will wait until them come in to take the tree down. Callie must be loving all that snuggle time!
GG~Yay for the blue dot, and the Stromboli sounds delish!
Jan~WTG on the weight loss! I finished hat #3, liked it so much, I think I will do the same pattern. Took a break and decided to make a Men's red hat. DS has a photographer friend who has been there by his side when DS had his surgeries, and picked up the events that DS could not do; his friend always wears red caps in the winter, so he can be found when working an event with another person. I had so much red yarn that I decided to make one for him, then get back to the babies' hats.
Carole~Sorry for the bingeing! Too funny about the "poopsicles"!
Cindy~I got progressives for the first time last year, and I had no problem adjusting, I love them. If it doesn't clear up, bring them back and have them check it out.
Hpeterson~Waving hello!
Goal today: stay AF/OP!

Had a good day, kind of lazy but nice. Got some steps walking around Walmart, but not pushing my knee. Drank my 3 Yetis and didn't overdo it on snacks or junk last night. Have a big pot of turkey chili in the fridge for lunches and tonight we'll have "Thanksgiving" dinner. Didn't touch my knitting, did pack up a few more Christmas things and bought some new tubs to fill. Will see what today brings. Right now just enjoying my coffe and going to read the paper. Have a lovely Sunday all. Jan Amy Ha ha the totd. Some days that's all we can accomplish. Yay for setting your AP goal, I think you'll make it easily. Glad DH is having fun using his instapot and helping you with meals. Can't wait to see your WI tomorrow!! Fingers Crossed! Murphy When is it supposed to warm up for you? Any plans after church today? Making some lunches for the week? Enjoy your day off Liz Sounds like you have a plan to get right back on track. When the A isn't in the house at least the decision is easier for me, even when I ponder going to the store, I can talk myself out of it. If it was here all the time, it would be hard. You are doing great with that temptation so close. Keep reading, knitting whatever it takes!!! So nice of you to make a hat for DS friend. I need a break now and then to, to do something different. Hope to get back at it today. hugs to you. GG Are you still at home or did you go out to church? Stay warm, glad you are OP and your meetings are going well. We haven't had many new people in our Sat AM meeting but they said there are more at the later in the day. Still figuring out the best way to work the program for me, still like my carbs and some sweets so have to save points Hpeterson Sounds like you had a good plan for going out. yay for no smokes or binging. have a good day back at school tomorrow. Cindy Crazy that everyone is having such cold weather. Hang in there. We are all thinking of you and sending hugs. Feeling any better? Any more weird headaches? Carole I guess the cold is good for one thing.....cleaning the yard Hi to all

Hi everyone! I swear I posted this morning but it's sure not here now! I'll have to search to see if I accidently posted on another thread! Anyway - went to church and have been catching up on some shows on the DVR this afternoon. It's still cold but we are supposed to warm back up by the end of the week. There is the possibility of ice tomorrow morning and that could make getting to work a nightmare. I will deal with snow but I sure hate trying to get around in the ice. We are just not equipped for it here in the south. Another of my college friends is coming through town with her daughter tomorrow night and then will be headed back home on Weds. The friend who came through on New Years Day will be here Tuesday night. So it will be a busy week. I'm planning meals in the crock pot all three nights so I don't have to do much in the kitchen. Hope everyone has a good rest of your day! Murphy

Hi all, Realized my stats were wrong, so I'm updating them. I did have one day of Alcohol- but it was planned and controlled. Drysuarys Cleanse Weigh in Day: Wed Daily Step Goal:8,500 Stats since Jan 1, 2018- My Data is total days during the challenge- not necessarily consecutive. As of 1/6/18 Days AF (alcohol free): 5 Days not AF: 1 Days Smoke Free: 6 Days Smoking;0 Days Binge Free:6 Binge Days:0 Days staying within points: 5 Days with activity/ step goal:1 CHALLENGE START WEIGHT: 128.2 January 1 weigh in:128.2 January 8 weigh in: January 15 weigh in: January 22 weigh in: January 29 weigh in: February 5 weigh in: February 12 weigh in: February 19 weigh in: February 26 weigh in: February 28 Final Weigh In: Used weekly points yesterday- We had Thai food for lunch (first time I had it and it was very good), then we made nachos at home for supper. I weighted and measured everything I put on the nachos- chips, cheese, meat. I wasn't afraid because I knew I had weeklies. Decided to put the beer back in the fridge though. I love the TOTD! That is how I'm feeling. Absolutely could not wake up today. DH went to church today without me and I was still sleeping when he came home at 12:00. If he hadn't woken me up to get lunch and go grocery shopping I think I'd still be sleeping!! Took some benedryl last night- But took it at 7:30 so I didn't think it would do this to me. Got the shopping done, dinner is planned, going to do a little cleaning and that's about it. lizmawmn,-I like the quote that it's not the drinking we can't handle it's the sobriety we can't handle. I have this issue with other things. I have an anger problem. It's not being angry I can't handle- I'm never physically violent, I just listen to angry music, watch angry shows and feed the anger. It's the feelings behind it that I can't handle. Anger is easier than fear. sadness, etc. Have a good day everyone

Still on track! Dh made ham and bean soup for lunch. It was DELICIOUS!
Rylee feels, better, but the weather is supposed to be nasty in the morning. Guess we'll,wait and see.

Hello my friends! I went to the weight lifting class, so good for me--I really lack upper body strength. I went to church, the contemporary service, I like it but also think it misses some important aspects of "regular" church. I got a text from jeff, Tyler was in the ER, he hurt his ankle playing basketball. He actually broke itπ he's in a soft cast and we'll see ortho Tuesday or Wednesday. He starts school tuesday. I said my goal for this year was no surgery.....I sure hope that covers him, too!
Amy, Jeff was telling me about the freezing iguanas falling from trees.
Liz, maybe this is your time of reflection on a higher power. Maybe a different practice, like Buddhism or something.
Jan, how is ds feeling?
Cindy, keepING my fingers crossed for ds and gf!
Murphy, stay warm!
Gg, glad Ryle is feeling better.
