Welcome to our 2018 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

DRYUARYS CLEANSE
"I look to the New Year with a renewed commitment to Progress" (credit to Hazelden)
The sense of true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the fumes released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol. The sense of peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are finding satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first three months of this year, 90 days, to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be. It will be an adventure that can only enhance you!!
From January 1 through February 28 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to ninety days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
To All, Great Success!

The brunch was fantastic- carving station, lots of fresh seafood, omelet station, and of course, lots of desserts. My strategy was to concentrate on proteins and fresh fruit and not finish eating anything that wasn't absolutely fabulous. I sampled 5-6 of the dessert "shots" and finished 3 of them. Afterwards, DH & I took a load of Christmas totes to storage and brought back more totes, but I was feeling too slug-like to do anything with them.
And I did manage not to spill anything on my boobs, lol.

Good morning all. I am glad to see a loss on the scale but it was more yesterday morning. I got into the crackers and chips last night and that did me no good! Back on Track to start the week. I'm going to make some white chicken chili for company tonight and if I stay out of the chips, I'll be fine. It isn't as cold this morning and the rain/ice hasn't started. I think if it starts, it won't be till mid morning and isn't supposed to last long before it turns to all rain. It will be a good evening for soup though!
Amy - now I'm craving some good seafood. I have some shrimp in the freezer so maybe I'll try to fix that later this week.
GG - I fixed some bean and kielbasa soup on Saturday and it was good too!
Cindy - I sure hope you aren't getting sick. Anything you can do to head it off? Extra Vitamin C?
hpeterson - WTG on being smoke free and binge free and for planning your A intake! That is awesome!
Liz - Amy is right about that devil on your shoulder. At least he is on mine! I'm so glad that I didn't give in when I was at the store. Neither of my friends who are coming by this week are big drinkers so I didn't feel like I needed to have in on hand for them.
Jan - It's kind of hard to get in the habit of posting stats again but I am committing to myself to do it this challenge.
Carole - I'm so sorry about Tyler's ankle! I sure hope it heals quickly and that the ortho appointment goes well this week.
If anyone wants to try Lipsense, I signed up as a distributor for the discount but I have NO intention of selling. But the order I'm turning in for family is big enough to get the 50% discount so if any of you want to try it, I'll give you my discount. I plan to turn in the order by Friday so just let me know. Hope everyone has a wonderful start to your week! Murphy

Good morning! So glad to see the scale going down for you girls! Hope mine does Weds! I can tell you that I will not be having any more of the ham and bean soup u til I'm done with meetings this week. Too many side effects, if you get my meaning!! Toot toot!! Lol
I am eating differently on Freestyle. This morning I had my 2 egg omelet, plus a mini bagel. I am so,satisfied! I'm curious to see what kind of a difference it will make for later in the day!!
Have any of you seen the 2 ingredient recipe for bagels, pizza crust, etc? It's 1 cup of self rising flour and 1 cup of FF Plain Greek yogurt. I have the ingredients. Now to try it!!
No GRandma day for me!! Schools are closed AGAIN!! I'm starting to go into withdrawal!!
Amy: You had a good plan for the buffet!!
Murphy: How about the First5 this morning? Even though we have to do our part, we know that it is God giving us not only the desire, but the ability to do it!
Liz: That A is one sneaky dragon. And so is the devil. But we also know that Christ is greater!! Rest in Him!!
Carole: Oh no!! So sorry about Ty's ankle!!
HPeterson: Don't you love the no guilt??
Jan: I don't post Stats for anonymity. But I do plan on posting weight loss!

Not a good day yesterday, I had 3 drinks and just didn't track. Up 1.8. I really need to get that discipline back and really try to put faith in a higher power. I am really struggling, and the more I get nervous about it, the worse I am. I am so afraid that I can't stop drinking or for that matter if I really want to. I almost feel forced by DS and DB who were both disappointed that I started again in the first place. Sorry for the woe is me, but I thought that I could get a handle on it, but I guess not. I just don't feel strong enough. Sorry for no personals today, but need to catch up at work. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning, Time to check in an be accountable. Drysuarys Cleanse Weigh in Day: Saturday Weekly AP Goal: /75 Number Of Days AF (alcohol free): 8 AIM: 2 DAILY STATS Steps:4942 AF: N Food points allowed/consumed: 23/32 Weekly allowance points used: 9 Blue Dot: N Activity Points Earned: 6 5 Fruit/Veggies(Y/N): y 64 oz Water (Y/N): y CHALLENGE START WEIGHT: 194 January 1 weigh in: 194 January 8 weigh in: 192 January 15 weigh in: January 22 weigh in: January 29 weigh in: February 5 weigh in: February 12 weigh in: February 19 weigh in: February 26 weigh in: February 28 Final Weigh In: So I was not AF or OP yesterday. I guess I'm learning. This morning before doing anything I wrote in my journal my thoughts on why the detour. First, I realize when I have no "Plan or Purpose" for my day I get to the lazy stage and then just give in. I didn't walk yesterday, accomplish anything, no motivation and that carries over into not being mindful. I think it must be like people with depression when you just feel like you want to sink under the water and not come up. But I don't think I have depression, I just have lazy, and A is an easy place to hide for a few hours. I do often turn to a "higher power" for help and guidance, but I also let my own personality think I'm strong enough and smart enough to go it alone. This journey isn't about Will Power, or stubbornness, it has to be about wanting it more than giving in. I don't do well without a plan, so today I start with a plan. I also have to learn that it is ok to sometimes just sit and read, watch TV or even meditate. That does not make me lazy or without a purpose, it is just living. People can't be going 24/7 but I have done that for a long time and now I have to give myself grace to just Be. I'm not taking that wine break as a failure, I have to see it as a learning experience. Each detour lately has really made me focus on my Why, now I need to practice focusing on my Why without the detour. It's another rainy gray day, but I have plenty to do in the house, I can use the time to clean out my closet, pack up my clothes that no longer fit and purge some paperwork. Moving on and looking forward to a OP/AF day. Hugs to all of you. Jan Murphy Glad the ice and didn't effect your morning drive. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead. Enjoy your company! Yay for your scale moving!! GG Ha ha about the soup/beans. We were saying we need to bring the Febreeze to meetings now that everyone is eating beans I do so much better after eggs or protein for breakfast, carbs just start the whole sugar crave for the day. Amy The brunch sounded yummy, great plan to bank your points and plan ahead. Yay for your scale moving too!!! CIndy Sorry about the sleeping and dreams. How are you feeling today? This Flu is a bugger, DS had it for over a week and the cough just lingers. Carole Yuck about Tyler's ankle. How will that effect baseball season? Does he have enough time to heal before they start? Hope no surgery! Saw you're having a 30degree heat wave!!!! Hpeterson Learning our triggers is a big part of surviving and working the plan. You seem to be learning a lot. I would be a total mess with your kind of school stress. There would be an intravenous wine bag on a wheelie cart to push around my house, my struggle to be AF has been much easier since quitting work, it's now more of an "Old friend" bad habit that I know I can let go off. Liz Back to the office today? How were those demons yesterday? Maybe I need a good book to shake up my thinking like the AA or Made to Crave. I've also seen some titles on the WW connect site I may look into. Have a great Monday and week all. Take care.

Oh Liz, I just saw your post. I know we can both do this. Have DS and DB help you define why you want to quit. It can't just be about weight, I keep asking myself, what am I trying to "hide" from. Does it help you not think about work or home or marriage or responsibilities, getting older....there is something in our heads that we don't want to "own" or deal with right now so we try to push it down. Journaling has been helping me. You'll find your way, we all have tons of faith in you. Love you.

Weekend fail - Had a great plan going into the bar (band gig) but then our best friends showed up and started drinking sparkling wine - my weakness! I only had two glasses (not good to run band sound when you've been drinking!) but then it was such a low paying gig that my friends "tipped" the band with a bottle of open sparkling wine and all I was paid was the tips! Hubby and I stayed up until 5 AM talking and finished the bottle. *sigh*
But success on my plan to only drink Friday and Saturday (as long as I don't slip tonight while watching the Georgia/Alabama game at home) so at least there's an improvement. Having boiled crawfish, shrimp and roasted green beans while watching the game tonight to keep my hands busy and away from the drinks.

There are days we do go out and I ask if they just have a whiskey IV. I need to learn that although there is a TON of stress and a drink now or then is OK for me. I can't use the stress as an excuse to have more than 2 drinks a week. Cindy- so sorry to hear about your nightmares. I hope your not getting sick. I have night terrors and I normally can not shake the feeling all the next day. I hope you are doing better union98, a crawfish boil sounds WONDERFUL! Hard to get good crawfish in central PA. We got out of school today at 11:00 due to ice. Stay safe and warm everyone.

Hi Everyone! Carole, will be sending Tyler healthy vibes with no surgery. I keep meaning to tell you thank you so much for thinking of me at Christmas! Hugs!
Amy, the brunch sounds wonderful!! Congrats on the loss! The TOTD made me smile.
Murphy, Hope you enjoyed your company and the white chili. I haven't made that in awhile, need to dig out my recipe. I hope the ice stays away! Congrats on your loss!
GG, With all the talk about Freestyle, I may have to try it. I need to do something about my poor eating habits! I was looking around for WW meetings and found a TOPS....I didn't even know they were still around.
Liz, I would be happy to be accountable with you on drinking. I don't want to give it up though I know it doesn't help me. My attitude is somewhat "what difference does it make" but I do know not drinking does make a difference. Hugs! But I find myself saying well champagne for the Patriots. That was not helpful! We need to do it for ourselves.
Jan, congrats on your loss! Your first paragraph resonated with me, though I know I do have depression, been an issue since I was 16. I know I do better when I have a plan to start the day. I am amazed at how you are "purging" stuff.
Union, glad to have you with us, though I am sure I am late welcoming you. I am watching the game too.
HPeterson, I think you did terrific being smoke free and binge free! Planning the A is also great! Night terrors are very difficult to deal with.....hugs!
I know I am not caught up with what is going on in everyone's life but will keep trying....what is that word....discipline? The headache hasn't quit....but no more searing pain. More dreams last night but not as bad. No murders, no trying to scream for help.....such fun night time adventures. Ainsley (my cat) has decided that sleeping on one of my legs is the best way to go so she can monitor where I am at night. Maybe I am a crazy cat lady.
DS's new GF has announced on FB that they are in a relationship. Shouldn't there be an age cut off for this? I wisely keep my mouth shut.
Did some more purging today but just get a overwhelmed with all the stuff. But another bag of trash went out the door. I did get rid of any Christmas decorations that I didn't love or doesn't have a place. I have two sets of Christmas dishes....doesn't everyone, lol....but couldn't part with either of them this year though we used very few of the dishes. It is too cold to work out in the garage especially with the wind chill and living in a very windy area. Excuses are still a reason.
Hugs to all, Cindy
