I just saw someone post on Connect that they ONLY lost 4 pounds their first week. I posted a response, tried to be nice, but really - I would have been grateful for a 4 pound loss in 1 week let alone if I could lose 4 pounds in a month. That would be great. I really think Smart Points is setting some (not all) people to think that big weight loss is the norm.

That is one of my biggest complaints about Connect. It really seems, especially on the "Trending" page, that they are featuring huge losses in short amounts of time. The photos are certainly impressive, but I wonder how many people can maintain those losses.

SP is the first WW plan that I lost one pound not 3-5 the first week like I did on other plans. So I am surprised at how much they complain. I dislike all the sad posts about somebody died or they got cancer. I pretty much go to the people that I follow and very rarely post

If someone hasn't been watching weight before WW the large losses are usually mostly water weight. And the larger it is usually a measure of how much the person has cut carbs. That is, eating high carbs requires the body to hold more water. If you both cut calories and cut carbs you will show a big loss. So, that first week loss can be motivating but it really doesn't mean that much in the long term. I usually eat fairly low carb so I don't get the big losses even when I go off track eating for awhile.
In the end it doesn't matter that much. I got back to goal averaging 1/4 pound a week. Sure, losing more feels good but it isn't necessary. What is necessary is consistency over time.

Well didn't WW recently send someone here a "sorry you're not seeing results" message in a week where they'd lost a pound? It's not surprising that people on Connect have that attitude if thats the approach WW is taking with their official communications.

It's not surprising that people on Connect have that attitude if thats the approach WW is taking with their official communications. Yeah... that was me! Basically it was "So sorry, not getting the results you want?" (after I had lost 1.6 !) And it suggested I call someone. What is interesting is that the message is now GONE and replaced with "Not getting the results you want? Tip: when you want to snack on something not-so-healthy, take five and do some light stretches to get your mind off of food". So... it was changed? They figured out there was no one to call? And what makes them think I was snacking on something not-so-healthy?

You show an amazing loss and they act like it's not good enough AND make it sound like it's YOUR fault because you're eating the wrong snacks?!?! I would've been furious. You are doing a great job, by the way! Congrats!

On a fitness forum I follow 2 members who joined WW posted 9 lb and 12 lb losses for their first week (no info on starting wt.), followed by 1 or 2 lb losses the following week. Of course they were disappointed and wanted to know what they did wrong. Bunch of people commented nothing wrong, it's water weight, 1 to 2 lbs a week is normal, the rate of losses will slow down, etc. People need to look at the perspective. .2 to 1 lb per week for a year is 10.4 to 52 lbs gone. I'll take it!
But yeah it's always the huge losses or people with a lot to lose on Connect who get the most attention, those and tragedies unfortunately.

My average weight loss to goal was .6 pound per week and I was always happy when the scale showed any kind of loss. I expect someone who is very overweight and has not seriously tried to lose weight in the past would have big losses initially but that slows down, especially when you get close to goal.

My first time on WWers was the Exchange program. I lost 7 pounds the first week. But in reality I wasn't eating enough. I was nursing and I don't think they were giving me enough additional food. I think I got one more milk serving, and that was about it. So, sure I lost quickly.
When I came back to one of the points programs I lost 1.6 pounds the first week. Honestly, I was happy for any kind of loss.
And really, we've been seeing these messages of "I only lost [blank] pounds" for years.

I've been looking at connect more recently and there's a lot of misinformation on there, like peppers have points. And lots of "I only lost 2 pounds this week" and "it's day 3 and I haven't lost anything yet" type of posts.

that reminds me of the lady on ww.com board a few years back that said "if one more person tells me that losing 1/2 a lb per week is normal, i will scream!!"

I couldn't stand that type of thing.

When I first did WW in 1975 on the original program, I think I lost 5 to 7 pounds the first week. Following that I consistently lost 3.5 pounds per week until I was at goal after 4 about months.
I’ve never had anything like that success on any of the points programs. Although if I switch to SP from calorie counting, I almost always lose 5# the week after I switch. But as other say, it isn’t a loss of 5# of fat.
I pretty much ignore Connect. Except for the downer posts that lmenglish mentions, I find the content to be superficial and uninteresting.

Like today someone posted about losing 7.5 in 2 weeks and it not being a big deal. If they gained that much in 2 weeks it would have been! I'm pretty sure they worked hard for that loss. At least be grateful for it.
