We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched. Get well soon, Linda!!!!

Linda, hope you feel better very soon! We are all thinking of you.
Anne, your post from last night about the Roman bread and circus hit so close to what we are seeing happening with our country right now that it's eerie and scary.

Will he or won't he be interviewed by Mueller? My money is on that he will not voluntarily do that, although I surely would like for him to be interviewed. I'd think Republicans would want that also to get this behind us once and for all. He pretends he wants to be, but we all know that's just bluster. He's actually shaking in his boots. Still, his ego is so great that with enough public ridicule for not being interviewed he just might do it. I'm sure he thinks he can "outsmart" Mueller. I'd pay money to see him try.

Bread and Circus:
"A phrase used by a Roman writer to deplore the declining heroism of Romans after the Roman Republic ceased to exist and the Roman Empire began: “Two things only the people anxiously desire — bread and circuses.” The government kept the Roman populace happy by distributing free food and staging huge spectacles.
This phrase originates from Rome in Satire X of the Roman satirical poet Juvenal (circa A.D. 100). In context, the Latin panem et circenses (bread and circuses) identifies the only remaining cares of a Roman populace which no longer cares for its historical birthright of political involvement."
Starting to sound familiar? . Good enough to repeat for those who missed it?
What is the saying ""Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." .... Santayana Prof./ Harvard
"DĂ©jĂ vu all over again" Yogi Berra Baseball player "Yankees" catcher, manager and coach
DH and I are such History Buffs, what we have found out in our reading is"history just keeps repeating it self"........

I don't think he is shaking in his boots. He is way too arrogant and self aggrandizing. He thinks he can get away with anything. (DH says JA is too stupid to say no..) "We also know that for all his success as a performer, Trump doesn't do particularly well in depositions. In 2007, lawyers deposed him in a lawsuit he filed against a journalist who wrote that Trump had inflated his wealth. In the deposition, they forced him 30 separate times to admit that he had lied about something (he lost the case). In 2016, his deposition in the Trump University lawsuit featured an ironic highlight, in which Trump said he couldn't recall so many events and statements that the plaintiff's lawyer finally asked him whether he had claimed to have the world's greatest memory. Though Trump had in fact said that just weeks before, he said he couldn't recall saying it. He lost that case, too, by agreeing to pay $25 million to the victims of his scam."

Anne, I don't think he's shaking in his boots either. A normal person would be. Here's my 3 guesses. He'll fire Mueller, lie, or not show up. No wait. Make that 4. Create an outrageous distraction. Linda, Jason, and Linda's DH, we're sending you Good Thoughts and calming Healing Light. Linda, don't forget to pamper yourself while you're pampering your family. Thinking of you! Be Well!

Anne, lol! Did you know there was a town somewhere down south that had 666 as their prefix? 666 is an exchange in many places but spooked out people made such a stink about it the phone company changed the exchange to 749. Multiply 74 times 9 and Uh-oh! lol. One of our exchanges here on Long Island is 666. The theme from the X Files now going through my head. lol. Or, is it the theme from The Exorcist?
