We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

As I am sure all of you feel, I am heartsick over the latest mass shooting in FL. Why do we continue to allow this to go on? I refuse to believe that we can't come up with an answer. I am disgusted and sickened by politicians who only want to say "now is not the time," while they stuff dollar bills from the NRA in their pockets. Yes, I'm praying for the families and individuals affected by this horrendous tragedy, but clearly sending our prayers is not enough. We need ACTION!!!!

I just can't listen to one more news report, interview, etc. Same old worn out sentiments on gun violence, etc. It just gets talked to death & nothing will change . The only ones making any kind of sense to this, are the teens involved in this shooting or past shootings. These kids have more common sense in their little fingers than all of Congress & the President put together! They get it. & know what needs to change, but does anyone REALLY listen to them!?!?!?...NO! It's not just gun laws, it's about preventing cuts for school funding for school programs to catch these kids that fall thru the cracks & maybe with help these situations could be avoided. I don't know, but I do know the politicians taking NRA $$$ have blood on their hands & their words are meaningless to me! Demorcatic, Republican or Independent.

I agree Linda! Sensible gun control plays an important role, but it does not play the only role. There is much that needs to be done--much that CAN be done. If I hear one more person say, "Oh, this is not the time to discuss that . . ." or "well, there's really nothing we can do . . ." I am really going to throw up. It's sickening! Of course there is something we can do! As Linda said, kids know there is something we can do. It's not that there isn't anything we can do. It's that as adults we don't hold ourselves or our lawmakers accountable. If we don't demand better, then we get exactly what we've asked for. Enough is enough! We ALL need to step up to the plate and be counted. These things aren't happening in other countries. So why do we allow it here?

I just can't look at FB again today. For every sensible, rational post I see about yesterday's massacre there is another one posted or a comment made by some total AH idiot that makes me just want to reach through the screen, slap them to the floor, and then give them a kick for good measure. Not good for my blood pressure, and not the kind of feelings I want to have; but, neither do I want to be someone who accepts this sick violence as just a part of our lives now. If we're going to start deporting people, I know some red-necked pond scum that I'd like to put in line to take the place of a few Dreamers who have far more to offer our country than these idiots do.

I know my FB feed has a few shares from those same kind people that say, it's not the guns, it's mental illness. Yada yada yada... The same people who support getting rid of spending for those mental health care services, the same ones who don't want their tax $$ spent on school programs, the same ones who get giddy everytime JA opens his mouth to spew hate against anybody that's not white...it's never about the damn guns for them, they just blame blame blame but never support the services to address these issues. They are the " deplorables" that fill that basket. They can just stick it where the sun don't shine & I hope they choke on their excuses!
