We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Good morning everyone! Happy Past-Presidents' Day! Too bad we don't currently actually have a President to celebrate it, just a fake pretender with a goofy grin and a big thumbs up whenever the cameras turn his way despite the occasion.
This nitwit takes the advice of Tweedledum and Tweedledee and thinks it's a good idea to try to lay everything off on the FBI, and use this evil, senseless tragedy to try once again to deflect the Russia probe. Then he exhibits how utterly clueless he truly is by taking a poll of Mar-a-Lago members as to whether or not he should exhibit any support for common sense gun control. First of all, why would anyone need to take a poll about something the vast majority of the country is crying out for is mind boggling. And does this JA really think the members of Mar-a-Lago represent the average American citizen? Of course he knows better than that. He just doesn't want to take a chance on alienating anyone with deep pockets.
Clearly Melania appears to be p*sssed off, but like Linda said I have no sympathy to give her. She knew what she was selling herself into when she signed the contract. I do feel sorry for poor Barron, that kid surely got dealt a bad hand with the JA for a father. There are no role models anywhere near him.
We had a lovely overnight visit to Jackson even though Saturday it poured down rain the entire day. It was nice to just relax. Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day, so it was really good to see some sunshine. The handyman we often use with our rental properties was supposed to help DH put cabinets up in our garage on Sunday, but it turned out he couldn't get his truck to start, so we had to reschedule that for next weekend. That's o.k. as there is no rush, but that does mean we will have to make another trip down next weekend. Not so bad, as it's a good break for both of us.
This is going to be a busy week. This morning I am going over to defrost my mom and dad's little refrigerator. I've been putting that off to the point that it is long past overdue. Seems there's just never a good time, but today there is just no more postponing it. I also need to go to the store and buy them more sandwich materials. I wish my mom would be willing to go to the dining room in the evenings, or even to allow them to bring food to them in the room but she just won't do that so I will continue to keep stuff for sandwiches there. My dad I feel sure must get tired of sandwiches every night, but at least he gets two cooked meals a day.

If the GOP had had any sense at all they would have made Kasich their candidate in the last election. Clearly they didn't. It's not likely they'll support him in a bid against the JA either. He could definitely pull middle of the road voters though, and I think would be attractive to a lot of people who voted for the JA but now regret it. Of course, pigs may learn how to fly and the JA might not be a candidate for 2020. If dreams come true, he'll be in a cell in some federal prison (wish it would be Guantanamo Bay). His diehard supporters, however, would likely still write his name in on the ballot.

Doing & saying the same thing over & over & expecting different results is so frustrating to me, especially when it comes from close friends & family who do exactly this. When I was visiting with my friend during our Saturday morning chat, the first thing she said was " It's a mental health issue", " the schools should do more", "guns don't kill people it's the mentally ill". These NRA Republican's have bought the talking points hook line & sinker & refuse to believe that any changes in the law will help. I wanted to ask her if she was willing to pay more taxes to help schools with mental health programs, after school programs, making the schools safer, since she feels it's schools responsibility...I did not, Because I absolutely knew the answer.....of course not! I changed the subject because we agreed many years ago not to discuss religion & politics ( not sure how it got brought into the conversation on Sat morning) & I wasn't in the mood to get into a discussion with someone who refuses to even acknowledge that laws need to change! Totally useless. Just depressing!
Today, the Regional BB tournaments start. We have to drive 75 miles to the games, & since there is a Winter Weather Advisory out, we may end up staying home & listening to the radio broadcast of the game. Hopefully, they win this afternoon so we can go the next 2 nights of the games. If they lose today, they are out.
Joyce...have fun with the fridge. One of my least favorite kitchen chores ever! When my in-laws were in the nursing home, my FIL never wanted to leave the room either, my MIL spent more time staying with him in their room than she should have. We always tried to encourage her that he would be fine for abit without her, especially since he slept so much during the day, but, she just wouldn't do it either. They were married 60+ years.

Hope your DGD's team wins this afternoon, Linda! If you do go to the game, drive safely. A winter weather advisory in North Dakota can't mean anything good.

These students are speaking out eloquently, unfortunately I'm very much afraid they are going to learn the lesson that "our" government just doesn't care. As the article Linda shared says, they don't have money to fund political campaigns, so children and other ordinary citizens are considered expendable. I am ashamed of what we have allowed to happen in this country, and while I may be a lone voice in the wilderness I will not just acquiesce. I will keep contacting my congresswoman and senators on a weekly basis. Sign every petition that comes my way. Speak out on social media, and most of all I will remember this when I cast my vote. My little voice and vote may not carry a lot of weight, but at least I will know I've done everything I can.
As for Paul Ryan, how shameful! GOP do you have no shame at all?

Well, I wimped out on the BB game. DH did go tho. I guess I'm just getting old & paranoid. Just wasn't in the mood to worry about traveling with Jason, dealing with road & weather conditions, trying to find a place to sit in crowded gym with a wheelchair. Plus still fighting sinus infection ( better but not 100%) & so I'm just darn right crabby I guess. I'm thankful it's on the radio, so at least I can listen.
The darn news just makes me crabbier. I honestly hope these kids ( young adults) stay the course & shame those in Congress, JA & every NRA supporter into some kind of action but I fear the almighty $$$ is just too much to overcome. Maybe the only hope is to unelect these jerks & I hope this latest tradegy inspires young people to vote & register others to vote as well.
So at JA face to face talk session with students, will it truly represent the students of school shootings? I fear the JA, the WH & Betsy DeVoss will handpick the students of their choice who represent conservative views. All JA sees it as is a publicity photo.
Well, off to make tea & listen to BB game. Will let you know the results.

I fear the JA, the WH & Betsy DeVoss will handpick the students of their choice who represent conservative views. All JA sees it as is a publicity photo. I will be seriously surprised if the session between JA and students is a true representation of students who have experienced school shootings. I will also be seriously surprised if it includes any student who won't "toe the party line." I'll be downright shocked if they include anyone who might stand up to the JA. Here's hoping they will prove me wrong . . . Linda, do let us know how the basketball game goes. I'm here in TN cheering on your DGD's team!

Well, after I picked my heart & tummy off the floor after the BB game I can report that DGD team won by 1 after being down by 12 most of the game. I can't stand that much excitement...DGD had 20 points, 16 rebounds & 6 steals. She won the "Play of the game" & Defensive Player of the Game. Her maturity & leadership in helping her team win by the skin of their teeth really showed tonight. It's going to be one tough tourney. But I'm so happy they get to play again. The worst they could do is 4th place now.

I listened to two eloquent historians marking the holiday and discussing some extraordinary presidents from both parties in the history of our country. Just wow.......

The JA endorses Romney's bid for the Senate. Well, duh . . . It's a sure thing he's going to win, but what do you bet the JA tries to take credit for it by saying Romney's upcoming win is all because he endorsed him. LOL!
