Always impressed with all you volunteer work, too, Sue! I did not do my exercises this morning for the second time only since starting with this rehab dr—was just so stiff and sore this morning—had a massage and that really helped—I wore the Hoka shoes most of the day—but didn’t have much walking to do—went to see Jordan’s doc—talked about his intestinal discomfort—he ordered some blood test—will check him for gluten intolerance just in case and other food allergies. Also a stool test. Jordan not with me so I was able to explain my role with him a bit more in detail.
Then to massage and then to take Jordan for a filling-=after I took him home I had some lunch and crashed on the couch for a while—did not sleep well last night and was so, so tired as I also got up really early. DH wanted to eat at Panera’s so I did not cook—got my garden fertilized and then it started sprinkling—had a bit of a shower—and now it is realatively cool—has actually been unusually cool all day. I think the weather is just off everywhere!
JoAnne don’t know how you can work on your house and yard with that chest pain.
Lori had her baby—they had to induce her 3 or 4 weeks early—she developed HELLP syndrome which is very dangerous—luckily this baby was really big—8 # already. It’s a boy named him Henry David—-like Thoreau!
I’m going to do my exercises and go to bed early—DH has to take cruise BF’s to the airport really early in the morning—5 am—says he is going to sleep in the guest bedroom so he can sneak out.
I’m happy they (cruise BF’s) have not invited us to go to the JDRF gala this year—-yay—I am sort of burned out on it—had no desire to go again. Plus we are not donating to it like last year—instead I am helping Jordan’s brother a bit—arranged to have his teeth cleaned next week and X-rays and a check up—it’s been years since he has had any dental care—just feel so bad that people without money have no way to get care. Our tax guy said those donations will no longer b deductible so I may as well donate directly to people I care about and help them out.

Busy, busy weekend—went to Thoroughly Modern Millie musical and took Jordan Friday night (it was excellent), went to Isle of Dogs, Wes Anderson movie Saturday matinee and out to lunch with DD and DGS14, played cards Saturday night, walked to coffee shop with DH today—3 miles—then went to WW BF’s house with veggies from garden-and to see her DH who now fell down and broke the top of his arm—same break as so many of my gym friends have gotten in falls—so sad—and only a month and a half after his stroke and his pace maker surgery! Then hit two grocery stores and made stir fry veggies with a beef patty for DH as well.
Loved the animated movie—it is so creative and so very artistic—really unique and I hope it earns an academy award—I loved it. Wes Anderson always makes unique movies.

Hi! Watched a lot of sports this weekend between the Sixers and Phillies and some Flyers. We had a Flyers player rent in our condo bldg, he recently bought a house and moved out.
SO has colonoscopy today and I'll go get him after the hospital calls me.
Joan, so many injuries to your friends. You do way more for Jordan and his brother than I ever do with volunteering! Sounds like you had a very entertaining weekend! Glad things went well with Lori's delivery.
Jojo, did you watch Into the Badlands?
Tomorrow morning is volunteering, tomorrow night my young cousin (she's same age as my second nephew) is in town for work, and we'll take her out to dinner. Can't believe how old they are, grew up so fast.
Actually, can't believe how quickly this year is flying by, it's almost May! Seems just yesterday we were on our vacation

Went to rehab dr today and just got home from Dick’s sporting goods where I had to buy a step aerobics bench—have to do 20 step overs and 20 side steps every other day—the step overs are really hard—have to step up with one leg, bring other knee up then bend standing knee to lower (controlled) the other foot to the floor about 8 inches out in front of the step—almost the beginning of a lunge, then controlled bring it up and back behind the step again. All has to be done without leaning top of body forward at all. It works up a sweat for me. on the off days I continue the 40 squats down and up to a chair . I start at 4 inches and go up two inches each week if I complete the week successfully. After that I went to my dance class and came back for lunch before heading to buy this—just finished the step ups—my legs and knees are tired.
I finished A Gentleman in Moscow—will now start again because I want to understand the beginning in relationship to the ending. Was really good. It would be such a good movie.

Hi all,
Work has been crazy. It will not settle down until after my family’s vacation out west the 2nd half of May. Feeling excited and overwhelmed at the same time.
Still knitting shawls. Once I finish this one I am going to take some time to work on something just for fun. I like lace knitting and want to work some on that.
Hope all is well. Jo Anne, I hope the surgery goes well.

Holly- a trip out west sounds fun. Where all will you go?
Joan - I get tired just hearing about all your exercises. You are amazing?
Sue - yes! Watched seasons 1 and 2 and now watching season 3. Got DH watching with me. He really likes it.
Went to the surgeon today. I reallly like him. He will do the procedure from the abdomin laproscopicallly and roboticallly. The stomach will be pulled down through the diaphragm. He will extend the esophagus if necessary and then do the fundoplication (the hiatal hernia surgery). If he has to enter the chest (Thoracotomy) I will have a chest tube and the stay will be 4 days instead of 1. Be praying for me it will be the simpler procedure and the 1 day stay. The surgery will be May 7. The left lung, lower lobe , is partially collapsed ( thus the shortness of breath) due to the pressure of the stomach. He says that should reinflate when the stomach is pulled out of the chest. I just wish it was sooner.

OMG JoAnne—that sounds so complicated—you have some complicated stuff to have done! I will dedicate my workouts to your successful surgery and keep you in mind in hopes of the easier of the two options. I just cannot imagine the discomfort you have been in.
So last night I felt somewhat uncomfortable. So I took some advil and skipped yoga today—went to my weights class after doing my exercises.
So exercising with old people can be dangerous! After class 3 other people and I were talking to the teacher about the squats to a chair that I have to do every other day—I had read that Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s trainer said that that exercise was the most important exercise that anyone can do as they age—so I was showing her how I have to do them—had pulled up a chair to show her. OMG, after my weights class I was showing my teacher the squat to chair exercises I am having to do 40 of every other day (and was telling her about Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s Work Out Book in which her trainer said it was the absolute most important exercise for all of us to do) and I’m headed down to the chair—in a controlled squat—an elderly sort of hyper older lady who is also a bit in la la land sometimes regarding her awareness of all that is actually going on, decides at that very moment that it would be nice if she put that chair away. She pulled it away to the sound of the scream of my teacher and to the rather ungraceful clunk of my butt on the hardwood floor. Landed a bit crooked so my left sitz bone took the brunt of it—but am a bit sore and rather irritated that at my age I should suffer what used to be a junior high prank in the old days! Today I am grateful for something i have never been grateful for before—-my butt is not skinny—I have padding—about 15 pounds more than WW ever wanted for me—and it may have saved me a broken pelvis!! Having a snack! Thinking my rear will be sore tomorrow !

We are going to Denver, then NM, Grand Canyon, Tetons, Yellowstone, and back down to Denver. Should be a great trip. I am hoping to see a dark sky park. Looking forward to getting some reading for pleasure. I can’t focus now with everything going on.
Jo Anne, I will be praying for quick recovery.
Joan, I’m glad you weren’t hurt any worse!
Sue, you have another trip coming up in the fall, right?

Joan - Oh No! You could have so easily broken your hip and by no fault of your own! What did the lady who did that say to you afterward? I hope she was regretful and apologetic. Are you sore or hurting?
Holly - the trip sounds great. You will see so much and cover so much territory! Glad you are enjoying doing the lace shawls. I keep thinking that if I keep doing the socks I will perfect them but the heels are tough and don't look too great yet.
I had a terrible night last night - couldn't get comfortable and a good deal of pain. It seems that all I can concentrate on is tolerating the days until the surgery. Counting every day left.
BTW my roses are beautiful this year. Makes me feel good that all the fertilizing and pruning I did last year is paying off. I hope to fertilize everything again before the surgery.
Today did a roast with potatoes, carrots and onions in the crock pot. I bought one of TJ's marinated roast - sooooo good ! And will last 1 or 2 more meals for us.

My left butt bones are sore--did all my exercises this morning but the left one legged squat to a chair. I was just too sore. Had a massage.
Just really tired. Doing night exercises.
So sorry you are hurting so bad, Jo Anne!

Hi!
Back to dreary days again.
My young cousin's hotel reservation somehow didn't go through and something must have been going on in the city because she couldn't get into another hotel, so she ended staying at my house for 2 nights. It was nice spending time with her.
Last night we went to a byob down the street with a partner at our old firm. It was nice to see him. He was the one that used to annoy when I worked with him, but I've known him for 25 years so it was nice to see him. He's a year plus younger than me. So there was some gossip about the company and catching up.
Jojo, good thing you are nurse and can really understand all this complicated stuff you have coming up. I would be completely overwhelmed. I know you will get through this with great results! So sorry about the pain!
Joan, ouch! hope your rear feels better soon.
Holly, sounds like a good vacation! Our next cruise is in mid-October, I know it will come up faster than it seems it would right now.
Good news is SO's brother's girlfriend is in charge of the renovation of office space for a very large company in nyc and she showed SO's paintings and the company is planning on buying 6 paintings!

It is after midnight and I have to get up at 5am to fly to Sacramento for the DGD's ballet tomorrow and for the first time in ages I cannot sleep! So frustrated. Finally just got up. Body very sore today. DH thinks I need to get an x-ray. If still. Hurting on Monday I will.
Sue, very exciting about the art purchases!
We are staying just one night--ballet is Sunday afternoon. Hoping I feel better tomorrow. It seems all my muscles are sore.
Ate out at a new place--had their civiche with scallops--OMG, it was so hot I literally choked and had the hardest time getting my throat and body to calm down--finally did tho and they gave me a different one without the pico they had on it--mostly was fish and lime and onion and avocado but at least I could eat it!
