8. Watch your intake: Reduce consumption of sodium, added sugar. Limit alcoholic beverages. Women should have no more than 1 alcoholic beverage each day.

I've been reducing sodium and sugar when I cook. Sometimes I will plate my food and add salt to my husband's. I also do it when I bake. Usually recipes have more sugar and salt than is needed. I drink one glass of wine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It works for me.

I don't think my sodium intake is a problem - I don't add much salt if any when I cook, and I eat few processed foods where the hidden sodium often lurks. I'm a non drinker, so alcohol isn't in my diet at all. Sugar and baked goods are my kryptonite but for the past month I have eaten very little of it and am doing well. It will always be a danger area for me, I think.

Sugar is not my friend!!! I don't use much salt when cooking and don't really eat a lot of processed foods. I haven't had an alcoholic drink in many, many years. Never enjoyed it unless it resembled dessert so why bother?
Linda the soup was absolutely delicious. I have an early day today and an all day seminar so will post later. Marie

I do like salt so need to be more mindful about adding it to food. I never use real sugar in my kitchen and know it's not my friend, so I do try to avoid it. This is not to say that I don't like it! Alcohol is not a problem. It's a big month when I have one glass of wine, and I can remember only one mixed drink last year, a pomegranate margarita at a Christmas party.

I cut back on adding salt at the table decades ago. Don't add salt to most recipes unless it is needed for the chemistry. Have been staying away from sugar and processed carbs since starting WW this time. Gave up deinking a few years ago and had been cutting back on it for years. It didn't agree with my moods. Staying away from alcohol and sugar really helps my mood.
Marie: Glad the soup turned out so well.

I don't cook with salt but will add some at the table if it's needed. I hardly bake anymore (too many cookies and cakes) but I use regular sugar when I bake so things will turn out properly. I still drink wine or an occasional mixed drink but not on a regular basis. I like the flavor but not the point value so I cut back.

After a comment from Tammy a few weeks ago, I figured out that I was getting way more sodium than I had realized. If you would ask me, I would say I do a lot of cooking and don't use so much processed food. But then for a couple of days I paid attention to the sodium line in the NI box of the things I was cooking, and I looked up sodium values in a look-it-up counter book. Wow! Not as low as I had thought. I'm trying to do better now, but it involves identifying and disrupting some long-standing routines in the kitchen.
I know sugar is lethal. No more baking. I mostly just use it on cereal. It takes me about a year to go through a 2-lb bag of white sugar.
I sometimes have a drink at home with DH on the weekends. I don't drink away from home because I'm the driver.

Thanks for the daffodil report. We have had a warm winter here with only a few days below freezing so far.

I have cut back on sodium. If I'm eating a salad I will add a little sea salt.I use sweeteners in my ice or hot tea but don't keep any sugar in the house.Besides sugar seems to be hidden in everything we eat now.I don't drink anymore b/c of my medications. The only time I get a lot of sodium is when we go out to eat and I get a salad. Those salads are full of sodium.

Judy -- Â Â DAFFODIL ALERT!!! Â Â I noticed today that my daffodils are sticking up about 5 inches. Â Also the day lilies are peeking up about an inch. Â
We have had a very mild winter here in the Louisville area.  We had about 1 inch of snow that lasted about 3 days.  Lots of days in the 50s and 60s. Today's high is supposed to be about 60.  The plants and animals are very confused. Our daffodils are growing. When I walk I keep track of a neighbor's 🌼 because they are the first to bloom.

I noticed a few years ago that I had gotten very sensitive to the "taste" of salt in my foods. Everything has to be low sodium now. Even if I were inclined to have a potato chip, I simply could not handle it. This obviously works to my favor from a health perspective but, I thought it was weird I became so hyper-sensitive to the taste. We don't have sugar in the house since we don't bake or have any other use for it. I only use equal on my hot cereal but, there are hidden sugars everywhere it seems. I don't drink a drop because of the medications I have to take.
