Thinking mistake #1: All or Nothing Thinking
"Either I'm completely on my diet or I'm off of it"
"Either I'm 100 percent successful or I'm a failure and nay as well give up dieting."
(Related to you having perfectionist tendencies.)

I am humble when I deal with my imperfections and quick to enjoy my successes. I know now after many years of restricting my intake of calories that controlled eating that is consistently done is the key to being successful with weight management. I am not always as consistent as I need to be but I don't consider myself a failure when I stumble. Success for me is approaching each day with the full intent of being on track, eating to nourish my body and making every effort to do so. Some days I am more "successful" than others 😊.

I really bought into the concept of my plan as being a lifestyle. As such, its requires some flexibility because life is messy and I'm anything but perfect. I've had my best success with PP. It seems more forgiving and easier to get right back to it if I over indulge. I'm far less likely now to throw in the towel after stumbling but, I never take anything for granted. I have to stay engaged.

Like Pam, I look at my eating as a lifestyle change. When I started WW I decided to really study the program and do it 100%. I did an on-line nutrition class and read a lot about healthy eating. I was successful at losing weight, even though it was a very slow process for me. What I learned from WW meetings, Beck and from these message boards is that it's impossible to be 100% perfect. We're human, all of us make poor eating choices at times. Luckily, WW and Beck are very forgiving and these programs encourage you to look forward, not backward. When you fall off the program, pick yourself up and get back on track. Actually, my goal, especially at this holiday time is to be on track 80% of the time. Don't beat myself up, just make a better choice at the first opportunity.

This has to be a lifestyle change and even though we lose and make it to goal we would never be able to maintain if it weren't.I am still looking for a middle ground but I am forgiving when I stray. There is always the next meal to get back on track.Nobody is perfect in life so whey should we think we would be perfect in our eating or weight loss?

Don't usually get into this mentality of completely giving in although it can happen on road trips when I give up trying to figure out a menu. But even then I'll use my eating skills when I actually get the food.
Like you guys I consider being less than perfect a stumble and have ways to deal with it and keep on going.

Click on "Profile" at the top of the screen, then click on "Edit Profile" on the upper right, then click on "Personal." There you can change you display name.

Yeah, I was big with the All or Nothing thinking on my first Beck-athon. I was so smug that I had it down. Then reality intruded and I had to change my thought processes. Thank you, Dr. Beck.

I haven't had much trouble with this thinking mistake throwing me off. Like the rest of you, I realized a long time ago that I will never be perfect and there will always be "Oops" and "Oh-Oh" in life. There is no point in letting the all-too-common mistakes get to me. Otherwise, I would take my teddy bear and go crawl under the covers and hide away from life all together. Usually, I just sigh and roll my eyes, pull up my big-girl panties, and keep on keeping on.

I think I'm good with this with respect to diet. I need to get more perspective on fencing competition, though.
