I've been outside working all morning & was surprised no one started the thread. The humidity is still high so doesn't feel like there's much relief from the heat yet.
June 1st already - 3 more weeks is the summer solstice & then days start getting shorter:( The year is sure going fast - too fast.
Not much planned for today - I need to do some cleaning.
Hope Marm gets her computer up & running.
A good day to all - especially Doris & family.

Good Morning Marlene and LTMs,
We had a low of 70º and going up to a near record high 94º and sunny with winds SSE 15-25. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible.
Yesterday we spent a lot of time sorting and tossing things because we will have to move out within a few days. I’m getting rid of a lot of old clothes that we brought from Mississippi and have never worn since we’ve been here.
We continued our game of Monopoly last night and we’ve been playing for about an hour every evening. I think this was our third night playing this game.
Maxine Calendar: Friday 6/1: I spend so much time looking for my cell phone it’s starting to feel like a hobby.
Peanuts Calendar: Friday 6/1: THE DAILY EXTRA: Fun Fact – Red, yellow, blue, green . . . a box of O-shaped cereal Froot Loops comes in a rainbow of colors, but the colorful Os are all the same flavor.
The following letters were sent from Japan about 2-3 years after we first arrived there. This one was a newsletter written by DH Bill 12/30/1957. (continued from yesterday). On Sunday December 22 we attended a service at Yokosuka which gathered 30 people 20 of them are not yet Christian. On Christmas night the five Christians of the Yokosuka Preaching Place and other regular attendants of the Bible class went caroling at a TB hospital. Kawasaki Preaching Place is still such an infant that we had only our usual Bible class on December 22. We have had a most Joyful Christmas. Gifts from friends and family, cards with those precious personal notes filled our hearts with great joy. Your prayers have been a source of strength and comfort to us in a year that has not been without its trying times. During 1957 in addition to the Evangelistic work, duties as Business Manager and Treasurer of the Mission Association kept me busy until September. Since Spring I’ve managed to get two afternoons a week language study. Numerous committees seem to occupy any extra time I think I have. The most interesting has been serving on the Building Committee of the Lutheran Literature Society. The plans are to begin and complete the new bilding in 1958. The first of the year will bring gradual integration into the workings of the Lutheran Literature Society. This organization is the joint endeavor of all Lutheran Missions and the Lutheran Church in Japan. Work as Promotional Secretary for the LLS will be my job until furlough in 1959. Doris wants to add a note so I’ll close for now. Bill. To be continued tomorrow . . .

Just now getting here. I just took it for granted you'd start the thread Marlene since you usually do when Marm can't. Taking a break and sitting now for awhile with my feet up. I'm pooped. Been going since my feet hit the floor. First with our walk and then laundry which I just finished. Another hot and humid day. Starting tomorrow it cools off. 70's tomorrow and Sunday. Rain predicted tomorrow afternoon.

It’s late morning here. Soon dd will be picking me up to attend a new knitting group that has formed since her closing. There are several sites starting up. This one is in an art and fiber place. We can meet from 12-4:00 on Fridays. And others are meeting at a coffee shop from 4-6 today. There are other opportunities too during the week. I’ll see who comes and if I like it. As I said, there are at least 5-6 places that knitters from my DD’s shop have set up. Today we’re bringing food as a start up.
Doris, my prayers are with you and this big change coming for your family. I enjoy so much playing the game started by Becki every day. You and I kind of think alike with it I think. I hope you can continue after you make your move.

HI all. I've been busy all day so far too. I haven't even thought of crocheting yet but will get to that soon since it's almost 4:30 here now. Marlene, I hate to see that time come when the days start getting shorter. I just mentioned that to dh yesterday. Doris, yes no sense in moving things again that you haven't used since last more. I hope you can give all those things to a charity rather than throwing them away. Someone can use them. Have you found any possible places to live yet. I know Helen offered for you all to stay with her but I imagine you're reluctant because of fear of imposing. Here in our town they have a women's shelter that has really nice apartments but, of course, they don't allow pets so that would be a problem for you Mary, it sounds as if you have so many choices that you could meet and knit every single day. And today one group till 4 then the other till 6 so you could be knitting for six hours straight Gareth you sure do fill your days off. Darn clothes keep needing washing, dust keep settling...work is never ending Oh and speaking of knitting, Marlene, I remember that you picked up needles when you went back to the campground after you had goine back home for the winter...did you get any done on that cowl you were thining of making? I have a crochet pattern that Mary sent me in email that I'm going to make soon...it's a cowl too.

I had a good time with the knitting group this afternoon. DD went with me and we only stayed 2 1\2 hours because she needed to get home and prepare potato salad for the DGGC’s birthday party tomorrow. And that is about as long as I could take it with the chairs. They are the molded kind, so they are comfortable for most people and much better than folding chairs, , BUT nothing is good for my back any longer than that. Next time I will bring a back support thing for my chair. I hope it works, or I’ll just not stay the 4 hours. (I was good when at DD’s shop because she had a few low stuffed chairs that fit me well.). There were 7 of us there today, and I’m thinking there will be more next week. Another group was meeting at a coffee shop later today. I don’t know that I’ll be visiting these other places like some of the others will be doing, but then I’m not as young as most of the others.
Tomorrow I’ll be gone most of the day with going to the birthday party with dd and family. I will drive to their house by 9:00 to ride with them to Rochester which is 2 hours away. Rain is predicted, but they are putting up canopies and they are advising people to bring a change of clothing for the kids who will want to play on the big inflatables. I hope the rain misses them!!!

Hello all LTMs,
I hope Marm has gotten her modem fixed.
Doris, you are in my prayers,
I would like to say it was a busy day, but it really was a busy morning. We went to the Y, came home & had our park walk. First Friday Mass was followed by breakfast & yard work in my herb garden. My rosemary looked like a large shrub, a wild one, rather than a nice herb. That's the way it grows here. I trimmed it up, shaped it, and did some weeding. I'd planned to go to Home Depot, get some fresh plants & put them in. Right after lunch, we had heavy rain move in & it continued for at least 2 hours. Our drought has definitely ended. I really didn't accomplish much else the rest of the day. I did make a turkey meatloaf for dinner & some tapioca pudding, and prepared some fresh green beans, too. Oh, yes, I made my riced cauliflower pilaf, too I am trying to eat VERY OP after my 2 weeks of vacation!
We'll have the palm trees trimmed tomorrow. The young man we use comes as soon as we call him. and his charges are really reasonable. I like him a lot, and it's hard, hot work here.
Hoping everyone has a good night's sleep!
Rose Marie

I'm here, Thanks Gareth for letting everyone know whats going on. I'm so happy you live near enough to so I can let you know and do count on you to. Thanks again. Aaaand to Marlene, way to go getting us going again. I was so surprised a little outage did so much damage here. 1-800 no. said my modem was now a nice paper weight. couldn't get me hooked up. and then the new one. hoo, hum, A problem getting it going to, It seemed to want to reboot itself after being hooked up. But think its ok now. but they said if any problem call. And of course my little one is one of the last. Now the little one is again bigger than the last. But yet the same if want to hook-up other toys, 'not I.
Marlene*, Good for getting out right away in the morning working outside It would have been late once I was able to. so instead I did the laundry and fixed up Awning shad'der so works better w/sewing a hemm for a pole to slip thru. Not all that easy.
Gareth*, So did you find anything out there shopping? Tough finding some things like those pants for us older gals.
Doris, I was sure happy to hear that King didn't spend all your money to. Just don't forget to pack all important papers and meds and ects like that. thru the hassle would be easy to forget. Hope you have all boxes and getting a lot done. Think MJ does need to have someone teach her how to budget. I'm sure anymore can find on line to do it to.
Bipp,Good girl getting a better deal w/that phone. and Savings. A big difference in price there to.
Rose Marie*, Well you know program and will get rid of all that fun you had. Ha,ha. Always lot of work coming home to. so do you plant the herbs in pots or garden? I would like to get these 2 trees trimmed to.
Mary, I bet you had fun w/your group. so how many was there? Wow, I made sure when bought this printer to buy one that took 1 cartridge. Nice of you to buy some cookies to take to.
Ruth, Well you do so well w/what you plant in those big pots. I used to have good soil, but much has turned to sand. but what I grow does well, but veggie garden guess in a bad spot since the the change. Used to be good place.
Well feels good to be back. I know neighbor was having problems w/her TV last night to. But she's on cable not me. I have enough problems. I did get laundry done and work inside plus sewing that hem for shad'der that goes to the Awning when we need it. Thanks again gals...sleep well~~

I went to WW this morning and was up 1.2#...That is nothing as Lifetimer…..
I then went to the rose gardens at the library and walked for about 1/2 hour. The paths are dirt so easier on my feet and legs.
The mail today brought my replacement Medical Alert. I have it on the charger now It should be done shortly.
Sure do miss Marm when she does not post....Thank you for the startup, Marlene. You are a real friend.
I will be going to church in the morning to take snacks for a memorial service for a Brother whose wife past. Service is at 11.
You all have a good evening. Praying for Doris to find place to live.
