Interesting...just watching ET & their big story is Oprah is launching a new business...refrigerated & frozen meals. Wonder how WW feels about that! Think they said the patent was filed in May.

Huh, that is interesting. I thought it was odd that they rebranded the smart ones yet again and launched a new smart made(?) line on top of that. Interesting.

I hadn't heard about that but I thought it was interesting one of my emails I received today was how Oprah lost her weight and although they had Weight Watchers in the title they called it Oprah's diet.I wonder what WW thought of that if they saw that one.

There was an ad in O magazine for packaged meals. I wasn't sure if it was WW or something else. I will have to locate it. It is probably those products. I glanced at it and then forgot to go back.

Is it me, or does it feel like it's just a matter of time before this becomes "Oprah's Weight Watcher program" and everyone forgets Jean Neitech?
Guess I'm just being snarky

Did anybody get the Oprah mini magazine from their meeting this week? It was like a combo of the Weekly and her magazine in one, and the cover said something about the inaugural launch, meaning there will probably be more.
It was nice, but I'm here for WW, not Oprah overload.

When Jean was running the company and even after she sold it and was their spokesperson, they didn’t need to try out all of these different celebrities to try to keep the company afloat. Jean had more natural charisma than any of them, and nobody can equal her enthusiasm to help others learn to fight their urges and make it to goal.

Seems to me that launching frozen & fresh meals, has her competing with WW. I don't get it.
And no Heather, you weren't being snarky. But I'm going to be...I hate her WW commercials. They make me cringe.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. Agreeing with Mike! Too many 'things' with WW'ers have gone by the wayside! Bring back the GHG's!

WW, at least in the past, has had pretty strict agreements with their spokespersons. I'm sure it's spelled out in her contract what she can and can't do. Her being a big shareholder adds another dimension, but surely she wants WW to do well so she gets the return on her investment. There has to be a non-compete clause in her contract, wouldn't you think?
I had the great honor and privilege of meeting Jean Nidetch, and she autographed a picture for me. I will treasure it forever.
Something that bugs me about Oprah and WW is that she acts like she's new to WW. I live in Nashville, and Oprah attended WW mtgs. here while she was a student at TSU. Her father Vernon Winfrey was a barber and city councilman in Nashville.

I’m sure the whole Oprah food thing is part of the grand spokesperson scheme by WW. Because O sits on the board of directors of the public corporation, anything she does is subject to scrutiny from the standpoint of whether she is acting in the best interests of the shareholders. So if WW wasn’t part of the planning and approval process, she and they would be making themselves targets for a shareholder lawsuit. In essence, it seems like WW is hiding behind O’s skirts…er, leotard.
WW isn’t in the fresh and frozen food business. They have made a partnership for the fresh food and the frozen food business is owned by Heinz foods with branding rights Heinz held onto when the sold off WW several years after buying it. So WW gets some branding income from both food areas, and they are probably going to get some kind of commission from the Oprah enterprise.

I love Jean and remember seeing her on the Johnny Carson show. I just love this video of her addressing Weight Watchers staff: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPQIkmpeHI4

I'm glad to see that not everyone is drinking the Oprah Kook-aid (diet of course). I just really don't like where the company is going right now. I know that it has changed many times in 50 years, but I think we are throwing our roots away. Almost thumbing our nose at them.
I don't like her commercials either- for some reason i just don't find her someone I can relate to. Go back to real people and show how long they have kept it off.

Yeah Mike, I forgot that WW doesn't make the food they peddle. Hey, maybe they'll be good. I,lost a lot of weight eating LC's & WW frozen dinners. There was a time when I would have welcomed great prepared fresh or frozen meals that I could have delivered to me. But for the longest time—ever since PointsPlus was introduced I think, I got out of the habit of eating out and into the habit of cooking.
Of course, I happen to be someone who likes to cook, and that's everything because people who don't enjoy cooking are not likely to do it often even if you hold a gun to their heads. And that may describe a high percentage of young people because so many of them grew up thinking drive-through fast food was gourmet fare.
